Looks fun, and funny!

But I don't have the time to invest in MMO's

Anyone played Sonic? It looks pretty awesome, keeping with the old-school style.
Might have to pick it up

Shitty. Very.

This trend of terrible, minimal graphics for the sake of "style" has to end.

Id like to go back to the cutscenes please
Check out May Payne 3 then - more cut scene than game!
I have to admit... playing through MP3 again, there are a ton of fucking cutscenes with pointlessly drab dialogue. Really annoying.

BF3 is a such a failure regarding a true successor it's not even funny -

- Netcode = Shit. If you don't acknowledge it, or at least notice it, theres no hope for you.

- Nerfed Gameplay. Horrible fish bowl sized maps. Health Regen, even on vehicles like 3 seconds after being hit. Lame. Removed
VOIP, no commander, and you can spawn on any squad mate and not just lead. So much for tatics, RUSH!. All vehicles have infinate ammo, and you can't run up in any enemy's base as it's out of bounds and you die, which is tied in with class nerfing removing special forces etc... You don't have to monitor clip/magazine consumption, just reload over and over. Unlimited sprint. No cross squad communication and the game feels more like Team Death Match with no one working together. There's more but you get the point.

- No Mod tools or ability to host your own dedicated server. They took away the pride of running your own server and the community making maps and whole other mod's. Project Reality, AIX, etc...

- Premium and Micortransactions. WTF. You had people that pre-ordered the limited edition of the game and just because they didnt pay for the rest of the DLC up front and buy premium they are punished by not being able to connect to premium servers. Customer Service? Also, selling unlocks? Whore out much EA?

- Announcement of BF4 before BF3 was completed? Signs of what's to come I guess. EA/Dice know that COD's engine is getting dated and they are ready to step in, take over, and cash in on the yearly event.

I understand you must make changes for the game to be entertaining on a console but jeez. I really wish they would have made the Medal of Honor series the COD clone and left Battlefield for the PC. It looks like ARMA 3 is the only PC focused FPS option now
You've got a ton of valid points there, especially the lack of true teamwork and some things getting dumbed down, but damn, I still have fun.

And if you think a company like EA is going to release mod tools for their game so they can increase it's longevity.. HA!

25. Re: Battlefield 4 Trailer Tease Mar 19, 2013, 17:09 siapnar

Basically they're releasing a new Battlefield to coincide with the new console releases.
Sounds like pretty much the same game, which in turn sounds like a no-sale for me unless they really do something innovative.
BF3 still has a lot of life in it.

On the topic of cheaters. I've only played a handful of games in BF3 where a cheater has been really apparent.

EDIT: Fuck them and their microtransactions.. and fuck em for outlining the DLC already. If you're going to outline maps this early, they should be in the goddam retail version.
/end rant

I love playing BF3. It's tons of fun.
Great graphics and sound with fluid on foot and vehicle combat to boot?
Nothing beats it for MP right now.

It has it's share of issues (albeit, not huge ones), but I swear, some people find reasons to hate and boycott a game. And they're usually unwarranted.

If you boycott EA in general, then so be it, but BF3 is by no means a bad game.

Verno wrote on Mar 19, 2013, 09:38:
I thought BF3 was a pretty decent game all things considered, I think its faults were more related to choke heavy/console friendly map design, anti-cheat and the failure to release any community modding tools.

I am a bit worried that EA has so much riding on this game that we'll see even more microtransactions. The whole pay to unlock thing was really lame when they introduced it. At least the mini expansions were meaningful content I guess. Less grind mechanics and better design please. Anti-cheat matters, please do something other than Punkbuster this time.
I don't know what maps you're playing, but BF3 is packed full of large scale 64 player-loving warfare maps. It's a claim to fame, really.

I agree on the micro transactions though. An inevitable future with them is disappointing to say the least.

Now when will we see a true sequel to CStrike? (CStrike2?)
I'm surprised they haven't tried to release a proper upgrade (I don't count CS:GO)

Maybe with HL Episode 3

End Game was just released this week...

BF4 had better change the military shooter in an innovative way, or this is very unnecessary.

Side note: The End Game maps are AWESOME.

You have to hand it to DICE for their level design sometimes.

Really hope they add some way to manipulate the environment, like fortifying a building or creating barricades. I could imagine a coordinated group working to clear out a town and then secure it as a trading outpost and safezone.

They also need to give people a good reason not to shoot each other on sight. Currently, it's riskier to work with strangers because they're likely to just shoot you in the back. Maybe they should add some sort of skill/class system with leveling, so people are more valuable alive than dead. It would also create a greater investment in your own character so you're less inclined to act aggressively.
These are both VERY sound ideas.

I was just playing some of it, and yes, it's true, the cutscenes really rip you out of the immersion.
And yea, the story is pretty balls. It's too convoluted and just plain stupid.
The gunplay though, remains awesome as hell

Just remake MP1 & 2 with the MP3 engine and I'll pay 60 bucks each

It isnt. MP3 was, compared to its long and costly development, a commercial failure. One little Steam sale ten months after release doesnt change anything.
I assumed, since I've seen it in the Steam Top 10 many times, that it was selling well.

Jacob, once you get past the cutscenes and get into some juicy battles. Just replay them over and over again. Some of them are incredibly cinematic and satisfying.

Their stretch goal for 3 million should be licensing Cryengine 3.

What do you even say for a stretch goal that is more than triple the original cost?
You'll make 3 episodes of the game?
It's getting a little ridiculous how much money people are throwing at this.
Save some for the other starving creative projects.

The ingame assets in the Lord British kickstarter are atrocious.
Sure, you may scream that it's an early prototype, but that doesn't mean preliminary assets need to be so bland and unoriginal... and circa 2001.
Doesn't instill much faith in their art team, or Art Director.
