I pre-ordered the game before it went on Kickstarter, so I've been playing the tech demo. It's fun: very nice detailed deformation, decent arcade handling and physics. Check out my gameplay video. Personally, I'm really looking forward to the beta.
Cool, thanks for the video link. It's a great tech demo, apart from the car surviving everything

I supported the Kickstarter, but now that it's canned I guess I'll go ahead and pre-order on the site

I, too, am still playing BF3 instead of 4. Sure it's harder to find servers, but I think I'll wait to get 4 until some of the horror stories I've heard are fixed

That said, it's really hard for me to wait, since some of the maps look fucking awesome.

Similar case with GTA V, but I won't be playing that awesomeness on a console at 30 fps or less

If the reports that the rift has issues with how long you can wear it before getting a headache or really messing your vision up are true then they need all the help they can get to figure out these technical hurdles.
Oh man, that's disheartening

You can turn off everything HUD related in the options, that's such a poor complaint. The combat is significantly more challenging in AC4 if you do so too, you will not receive counter signs, see your health and enemies attack much more quickly in general. The previous games were balanced poorly, I feel like they finally hit their stride with it here. If you leave all of the games training wheels turned on then you shouldn't be surprised when its easy. Turn it off and you will be challenged. This game is more like a modern version of Pirates, there are some annoyances from previous AC games but they are tolerable for what we get in exchange.
Hadn't seen anything for it in previous games, but I really didn't spend much time with them.

AC4 sounds awesome, though, thanks for the insight

And here I thought PC ports of new games would be fantastic considering the similarities of the next gen console's architecture...

the melee combat... The forever immersion-breaking white logos sprinkled all over your compass and display... Even the same freaking sounds I've heard since silly Altair took up the blade.. They make the acid in my stumach sputter.
These are essentially the reasons I couldn't get into the AC franchise. The combat is automatic, and the immersion-shattering futuristic looking highlights on the HUD and highlighted enemies infuriate me.

AC4 does look very cool, still. I also said that about AC3, though, and despite it's gorgeous graphics and production values, I found it boring.

Truly pathetic. Guess the new console era hasn't changed EA's practice much.

Killzone is looking really nice. I'm surprised we didn't see this kind of advertising earlier. The game looks like it's going to steal the show as far as next gen games.
Super purdy graphics, but I've yet to see much innovative gameplay in the videos I've seen.

Also, the music in that tech trailer is awesome

The maps are definitely on the smaller side, seems to be a byproduct of the insane amount of geometry and usable buildings on most of the maps.
In comparison to BF3 though, the Shanghai map was massive as far as I could tell. Especially cool was the vertical aspect of it.
Also that massive dish map looks pretty large, in addition to the dam one.

But I really do like some of the maps from BF3, especially a couple that came with the End Game DLC

From what I've seen of the maps on youtube, I'm only impressed by a few. Rogue tranny, that dam map ala BF2, and the STALKER inspired one seem to be the best of the bunch. Shanghai was also fun in the beta, but looked awfully bland once the city was covered in dust after the skyscraper came down.

MoreLuckThanSkill wrote on Nov 2, 2013, 19:11:
Headshots are rewarded, which is good, but body shots seem to be penalized heavy in BF4, compared to BF3. This is really evident with the vehicle mounted MGs, which seem to take an inordinate amount of shots if you don't hit the head, to kill infantry.
In the beta I got infuriated with how many shots infantry could take from vehicle MG's. Absolutely ludicrous how much you'd have to hit them. Sometimes even 15 shots from one.
Sounds like the issue persists.

I don't usually have any praise for Activision, but it's cool that they didn't gimp the PS4 version of Ghosts so as not to upset Microsoft. I would imagine MS isn't happy about this blow coming right before release.
Maybe Activision deserves no praise, and 720p is the best they could get out of the Xbone hardware :/

For the record, I'm playing it and it's awesome. The way the graphics work is mesmerizing - it's all fully 3D, but it feels 2D - I've never seen anything quite like this before.
After looking at some footage as well as screenies from it's Steam page, the game looks beautiful.

Wish there was a demo, because I'm really, really not into Japanese style gameplay in general.
