And like many of us have been saying, this is just the tip of the iceberg for things to come. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop and hear him announce a turn around ED style with ODRM and monthly fees on top of monetizing everything else.

Heh, it's going to be exactly like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I just wish I could see the horror on the passengers faces as it unfolds. I'll just think of what Michael Bay would do, plenty of explosions all around.

I agree they should refund money lost on it. It seems to me at least that more and more people are creating kickstarters and then vanishing a few months after they are funded.

Kickstarter has never guaranteed that Kickstarter projects will be finished. That's the responsibility of the people creating the projects. When you back a project, you aren't pre-ordering a product. You aren't entering into a legally-binding contract. You are not making an investment. You are, for all intents and purposes, offering a donation to someone because you like their ideas. That's it.

You are entering into a contract. It's a purchase agreement. Most of you people around here have no idea what even constitutes a contract. Verbal agreements are still legally binding contracts everywhere one earth. It's absolutely no different from buying a car or anything else where you pay up front before delivery. The contractor must strive for and attempt to deliver what was agreed upon and paid for or as close as possible - and even then the contractee still has to agree to it or they're permitted to terminate the agreement with no penalty to them. If you buy a royal blue car and the dealer says 'Well we managed to get everything you asked for except the color. It'll have to be pink. Is that ok?' Then the terms of the deal weren't fufilled and the contract is vacated ab initio.

Same with the changes in KS agreements. Yes, it's reasonable that software changes over time. However there are limits. Like Molyneux very obviously changed his mind and decided to turn Godus into a mobile game. There isn't a court in the land that wouldn't come down on the side of the consumer. Most people simply aren't going to spend the time and money to recoup their $20 in Small Claims Court. They should however because they'd also be entitled to exemplary damages. More importantly they'd make it harder for con artists to keep conning people.

I've sued several people successfully over the years. Hell, I'm in the process of suing my municipality right now. My bone of contention here is that KS profits from these scams and is therefor liable under comparative negligence. They haven't been called on this yet, but they will one day and soon. I can't wait to see what happens.

It's a wonder you have a computer.

Why? I have a lot more control over it than a phone. Is your PC loaded with bloatware? GPS tracker? etc. You know what I need a phone for? Making phone calls.

Shit like that malware on smartphones is precisely why we need to go back to dumb phones. If it's not the crooks it's the government spying on you. I neither need, nor want, a device that allows them to do that.

How exactly is this price at $20 for NA when the peso, US dollar, and CDN dollar all vary greatly in value?

Old school is anything analogue. So some of the 80s and most of the 70s and anything prior to that.

I don't understand why cities use salt when there are perfect alternatives in sand and other vegetal matter.

The alternatives to salt for battling ice: cheese, beets and ash

Communities seek a substitute for road salt

Road salt alternatives include cheese brine, molasses

I particularly like the EcoTraction one....

Invented by a Canadian company, EcoTraction is made of non-toxic, all-natural volcanic rock. According to the Earth Innovations website, the granules embed into ice and snow, creating a solid, non-slip surface. Founder Mark Watson developed the product after his dog died of cancer, which may be triggered by toxins in road salt.

So get the village to use that for the sake of the Gunnar-man's paws and his canine companions. If I was a dog I wouldn't want to wear boots either. Hell, I hate wearing shoes as a human and much prefer being footloose and fancy free!

I so hate upselling. 'Did I ask for fries with that? No? Than just give me the goddamned hamburger. If I want it, I'll ask for it.' The worst is when they're asking on behalf of a charity. I love when Family Guy covered that one....

Cashier: Would you like to donate an extra dollar to the Quahog food bank?

Stewie: Oh, sure! And would you like to come home and clean my toilet, while we're both doing stuff for each other?

Saw that comment on that site earlier and had the exact same thought you did. Unfortunately I also saw today that the "anti-terrorism" legislation is polling through the goddamned roof, with a good chunk of the populace wanting it to go even farther. No wonder the Cons have dropped the economy message and went full patriot act, people are eating it up. The useless Liberals are backing it and the rest of the opposition parties are going to take a major public beating for being against it. I can't help but shake my head.

Look at all the Sun readers in this country and that's no surprise. I can't stand it anymore. This is why I'm working so hard to create a business I can sell for a few mil in 5 years and get the hell out of here. I just want to be another Canadian ex-pat living on a boat in the Carribean, or in Europe somewhere. I don't much care at this point so long as it's anywhere but here. If I won the lottery tomorrow I'd be going from the OLGC office to the bank and straight to the airport on the first flight to anywhere out of the country. It's funny how so many Canadians think this country is so great. They're so provincial in their attitudes and have never been anywhere else so they don't know how much better it can be.

Actually they can prevent it by giving employees something to lose. Pay them a a living wage - currently $20 per hour - and some halfway decent benefits, and treat them like actual people instead of doormats for pissed off customers to vent on. Do that and you'll see quality CS. The reason they don't is because these corps don't care a whit. CS is simply a buffer for pissed off customers to vent on disposable employees. The CS people don't care as is because they can go out tomorrow and find another dead end minimum wage job like that.

I'm not going to be happy if they release pay DLC that adds actual combat content. Right now it's just a space trucking simulator with some dogfighting if you want.

Get ready to be unhappy in that case. Why else do you think they went ODRM and no editor?

Incredibly well said....

"No, it's a feedback loop. The exact same thing is happening with copyright.

America (and all of the five eyes) want additional laws and powers. Those laws and powers are currently illegal and unpopular.

So, one of the five eyes gets talked into passing a law which goes much further. And then the rest of them all say "see, we need these powers too".

The exact same thing has been happening with copyright, and spying provisions ... they play off one another to expand the powers internationally, and then push to get the same things domestically.

Essentially most western governments now have three magic keys to the kingdom: copyright, terrorism, and child porn.

These three things are being used to march the goalposts further down the field, and the consequences for the rest of our liberties be damned.

The five-eyes are flunkies in advancing the interests of corporations, and conspiring together to give us global fascism and surveillance. The Western democracies are all actively trying to say "fuck you and your rights, this is what we do, this is who we share it with, and if you don't like it fuck off".

Essentially the governments and spy agencies of the five-eyes are larger threats to our liberties than the people they claim to be protecting us from.

And they seem to not give a damn what they do to get there."

More like how the games industry ignoring space games almost entirely helped shape SC's success. And like Minecraft or that Oatmeal card game, once a meme becomes established as popular culture it becomes self-fulfilling. Most people want to be part of the in-crowd and will jump on board so as not to be left out. If LA had kept making cool stuff like XvT, and had there been regular space games beyond the X series it wouldn't be a big deal right now.

Is there anyone who wouldn't rather see Neil doing his followup to District 9 already?! Yeah, yeah, we all like Aliens and Predators, but at least D9 was exciting and new. I want to see what happens. I love the way the film ended but hate that rhere's been no followup. Fuck do I care about more chest-bursting aliens. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt numerous times already.
