Hahaha! Leave it to Cutter to find the downside to courtside NBA tickets.

Well fucking seriously man. The entire game it's just squeak squeak squeak, tweet, squeak squeak squeak, tweet. Nothing but constant squeaky shoes and a referee blowing a whistle every 10 goddamned seconds.

The problem is hardware, but I gots that. So yeah, a niche, but it's MY niche. Dig?

The killer apps for VR are probably live sporting events and movies. That's when the masses get onboard. Courtside seats from my living room would be cool.

I dig like a spigot. That's groovy like a drive-in movie. Beatnik

But really? A VR helmet strapped to your head for hours on end? And I've heard this claim about courtside seats. How in the hell would that work at a live event? I actually sat courtside once at the one and only NBA game I've even been to and it was pretty annoying what with all the shoes squeaking all the time.

Facebook hiring 1200+ people ramping up to the Oculus Rift launch.

1200 people? What for?

You can't launch a new product with R&D people. That's pretty much everyone that works at Oculus, atm. This is all about advertising, marketing, and customer support. Takes a lot of common folk to sell products. This is a good sign. It means they're serious about it.

C'mon Cuts, it won't be huge, but it ain't fallin' flat. There's a market.

Edit: I don't think facebook has released any manner of hardware yet. Is that right? They really don't have the people in place if that's true.

I don't disagree. I've always said there's a market for it, just a niche market. And probably more AR than VR at that. I've also said I suspect it'll sell like hotcakes initially and then in year or two you'll have a ton of people with dusty paperweights. It's the same for all unnecessary fads. And the marketing people always try to liken it to cel phones and how no one expected them to take off - well, the differce being is people actually need phones. It's the same reason wearables is failing. Who wears a watch anymore except for asthetics? Everyone uses their phone as their watch now. So why would you need a $300-$500 "smart" watch that doesn't even do what your phone already does?

There's a slew of reasons why VR won't be what they're hoping it will be. And they're desperately trying to convince themselves of that and everyone else.

Oh, don't worry big brother they're already doing that with all their smart devices anyway. How crime ridden is London that you'd need a CCTV in every home and business? Jesus you'd think it was the 1930s Chicago.

This time next year....

"Facebook firing 1200+ people as VR falls flat."

Those people better keep their resumes polished and looking out for other jobs all the while.

GDC 2015 once again reflected the changing shape of the videogame industry, with a dedicated summit track for the rapidly expanding field of eSports with talks from Riot Games, Blizzard Entertainment, MIT Game Lab and many others. Tied to the theme of videogame spectatorship, GDC has also expanded its focus on Community Management, with a dedicated summit that included talks on building, supporting and maintaining an engaged and respectful online community for gamers.

I'm glad I got in on the ground floor of gaming because I have zero interest in where this kind of BS is headed. It was a nice run while it lasted.

That tap concept will work for maybe 6 months at the most, and it won't be that nice while it does work. It won't take long before the "turbines" stop spinning due to gunk from the pipes (bits of metal included) and algae build up. Leading up to their eventual failure, they will start rotating more and more slowly and less consistently. While they work, the water isn't going to do quite what these 3d renders depict. The water will glob together and not stay "pretty" for more than a couple of inches or so, and that's stretching it. Interesting idea, but it's ignoring some pretty basic physics concepts.

I have an excellent water filtration system and will likely be moving on to a distilled water system in the next year or two as I use a lot of it for work anyway. So, that tap would work well for me.

"Real scientists" does not define an elite, pure breed, devoid of flaw. The shitty scientists who do work people hate or who people regard as dishonest are as real as the ones they idolize.

No one ever says that a given politician they dislike is not a REAL politician, or that a corrupt CEO is not a REAL CEO. Let's cut this shit out.

Ok, then prove it. Name me a mere dozen well respected climatologists who have put forth peer reviewed papers that prove climate change is bullshit. Name one. You can't because they aren't actual real scientists doing actual real science. They're mouthpieces for industry. If you don't understand that than you have no business even discussing the issue.

“It’s going to be a little bit rocky,” Mr. Sweeney said about the development of virtual reality. “Some people are going to ship products that won’t be good. But there is so much momentum behind this that V.R. is an inevitability.”

Just like 3D huh? Inevitble amount of dust covered paperweights more like.

All these people bending over for Google are idiots. Let the muni own the infrastructure and rent it out to ISPs to manage. See if all this Gfibe bs doesn't come back to bite people in the ass in the next 5 years.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention if you hit Dealzon right now, they have a link to GMG for 27% off Sid Meir's Starships which hits on Thursday. So that's $11.34 in total. I'm in and can't wait!

Well who defines what arms are? A weapon is defined by its intent. If cop stops you - and this is another perfect example of why you never consent to anything where cops are involved - and asks why you're carrying a knife/fork/stick/etc. and you reply "self-defense" then you're going to get charged with carrying a concealed weapon. They never said guns, they said arms.
