jdreyer wrote on Jun 6, 2013, 15:09: The surveillance and the drone strikes are the two biggest issues I have with this president.
And yes, considering the man is a lawyer and constitutional scholar, I do expect him to be better on these issues.
Also, not everyone let these issues go when Obama was elected.
I wish Romney were president. He would have shut these programs down for sure. Are you stoned? If Romney had won the real Orwellian nightmare would have began. The man is a true autocrat with extreme delusions of grandeur. There would probably never be another election afterward as the corporations would take over completely. The middle-class would finally be eliminated - with the vast majority pushed into poverty and indenture red servitude. All those programs would have been expanded massively. Yes, Obama is a liar and massive dissapointment, but he's still a fucking saint compared to people like Romney, Bush and co. As the lesser of two evils he is very much the lesser by a damn sight...and that's both really scary and really sad.

Martin has been doing this a long time too. It's really bad timing that he started GoT so late in his career when yeah, all he really wants to do is edit, maybe some short stories, game and watch football. It's definitely a chore at his age. |

Friend o mine is teaching in Japan atm and was talking about some of the crazy food you can get there. She's also posting pics of their English signs which are all fucked up and funny as hell.
And yeah, hats off to the lads involved in the "Big Push". That was sheer insanity. Perhaps I'll watch A Bridge Too Far later as I recently caught Private Ryan a few weeks back. |

The court order appears to explain the numerous cryptic public warnings by two US senators, Ron Wyden and Mark Udall, about the scope of the Obama administration's surveillance activities.
For roughly two years, the two Democrats have been stridently advising the public that the US government is relying on "secret legal interpretations" to claim surveillance powers so broad that the American public would be "stunned" to learn of the kind of domestic spying being conducted.
Because those activities are classified, the senators, both members of the Senate intelligence committee, have been prevented from specifying which domestic surveillance programs they find so alarming. But the information they have been able to disclose in their public warnings perfectly tracks both the specific law cited by the April 25 court order as well as the vast scope of record-gathering it authorized. and
At present, border agents do not have to provide a warrant or have reasonable suspicion to search your laptop—they essentially just need a hunch. For some time now, civil liberties groups have been pressing to change that policy. At the very least, these groups would like to compel the government to explain its legal rationale. Land of the free, huh?

Well, lets ban cars and factories then. Smokes are a joke compared to those two. I love when I'm downtown having a dart and someone gives me the hairy eyeball as several delivery trucks are parked beside them idling spewing out black smoke.

Wish I could volunteer in an animal shelter but there's no way I could deal with it. I can't even walk into one without wanting to blubber and set them all free. Nicely done, man. I do however do most of my charity giving to animal related causes because you know, fuck people.

Hope you got them some treats when you were there, Blue. Maybe some pigs ears or the like. I give my girlfriend's dogs pigs ears or smoked bones from the butcher once in a while and they go koo-koo bananas for them! |

Verno wrote on Jun 5, 2013, 10:09: That one scene in Heat is great too:
Alan Marciano: Why'd I get mixed up with that bitch?
Vincent Hanna: Cause she's got a great ass... and you got your head all the way up it! Haha, yeah. Heat is definitely a five star film as far as I am concerned. Pacino's character is awesome. There is a lot of good dialog in that film, like the scene with Pacino and DeNiro sitting down for coffee. Yeah, I love Michael Mann's work. His stuff always grows on me the more I watch it, the more I appreciate it. I love the deliberatness of his work. Honestly, I love every single thing he's directed starting with The Jericho Mile and Thief with James Caan - which is Jimmy's favourite flick. He has such a great sense of style.
My favourite scene in Heat is where Hanna's respect for them really ratchets up when he realizes they've been made, and they have that shot of Neil grinning taking the shots as he realizes that Hanna has realized it.
Vincent Hanna: I got an idea... of what they're looking at. You wanna know what they're looking at? I mean - is this guy something, or is he something? This crew is good! You know what they're looking at?
Bosko: What?
Vincent Hanna: Us. The L-A-P-D. Po-lice Department... We just got made. Ok motherfuckers! |
