25. Re: No subject Jun 16, 2007, 23:19 Roofles

A) No one else is going to bitch about Fallout 3? It's not exactly hard to find people bitching about it on the intarweb. As for professional journalists? DURR. Of course they aren't going to bash Fallout 3. Let's see here... world exclusive preview... first details... first screenshots. Ah, yes, makes perfect long-term business sense to berate the game when they've been given these things. I mean, that's what readers want to read, right? "THIS GAME FUCKING SUCKS!!1! WHERE ARE THE ISOMETRIC CAMERA ANGLES?!? THE MUTANTS DON'T LOOK RIGHT!!!! THAT TEXTURE ISN'T BROWN ENOUGH!!!! FUCK, THIS GAME ISN'T GOD DAMN FALLOUT!!!!!!"

Yeah.

Fallout is an RPG. Character development, dialogue, choices & consequences. Where is the preview of any of that? Oh look an orc and a messy headshot LOL. Also love the gaming sites that gave Oblivion 9.8s that are now bitching about level-scaling and shitty AI. How about mentioning that shit in a review or preview? Oh wait...let Bethesda sell a million copies first, then start bitching about it.

Fallout fans can be pissed...they have a history of being screwed over twice already (Tactics, and POS).

B) Just because you have a right to do something doesn't mean you should do it. I bitch about the whiners in the hope that they will stop and I won't have to see the same complaints in every single Fallout-related thread.

It's called the Internet. Grow up.

What a horrible analogy. Fallout 3 is not going to be a completely different genre than Fallout. Obviously it won't be the exact same game either. However, from what I've seen and read thus far, it will still be an RPG. Notice how I said "from what I've seen and read thus far." That's important because we still don't know much about the game. If the game comes out and ends up being an FPS, then your analogy will be valid.

According to preview: "Genre: Action RPG." What was Fallout 1 & 2 again? Action? WTF?

Actually, most young console players don't even know wtf Fallout is and don't really care about Fallout 3, letalone what fanboys think of it. It's easy to defend yourself by generalizing your detractors as console kiddies but it would probably be more convincing if this wasn't a PC gaming website consisting primarily of veteran PC gamers.

Right and I was limiting my last reply about those visiting this specific site. Look at the Gamespot and Bethesda forums. Go there yourself. Tell me some of those posters have sat down and played Fallout instead of seeing youtube videos of it or seeing it on "Top 10 greatest games EVAR!"

I, for example, am not a console player. And I have played Fallout. The reason why I don't bitch about Fallout 3 is because I haven't played it and know relatively little about it.

I myself am keeping an open mind. So far, it's not looking like a Fallout sequel (like I said, it's more like STALKER). However, if people start talking about those "Snobby, raving lunatic fallout fans," I gotta put my foot down because they don't know the context. I don't mean to disrespect console players either, but a lot of PC gamers knows what happen when you make a game for the different platforms (Deus Ex:IW *cough* Oblivion *cough*)

Do I have to go to the Sun to know it's hot? Do I have to eat shit to know it tastes terrible?

People are whining and bitching because A) no one else is going to. Are the oh so "professional" game journalists sucking Bethesda's cock going to do it? No. B)Because they can and they have a right to just like you have the right to bitch about them bitching or not read their bitching.

Fallout fans are mad because the gameplay is being fundamentally changed...you know... the stuff that makes a game? The setting and story are secondary to gameplay for games...something most people forget.

Bungie is working on a Halo RTS. Are they going to call that game Halo 3? Hell no. Would you want Half Life 3 or Quake 5 to be a third person fantasy action-adventure or a side scrolling platform game like Soldat?

Obviously a setting can accomodate different games (Star Wars). But is the next Jedi Knight franchise game going to be a turn-based strategy empire builde?

Second, all these young console graphic whores complaining about "Fanboys" who obviously never played Fallout 1 or even 2. The gamespots and gamespys tell them its great because it has hookers and you can use drugs and shoot kids, but have they played it?

And Kohan added some revolutionary elements with RTS's but gets no love.

Not sure, but I think the TB/RT B.A.S.T.A.R.D.I.Z.E.D system might work something similar to bullet-time from Max Payne. Have to wait and see the gameplay in action

Don't know if I'm allowed to do this but mag scans were posted
yesterday here:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36877

Honestly, the game looks decent than I thought it would as a post-apoc game in the vein of STALKER...but a Fallout successor...no. Copying and pasting Vault-Boy pics everywhere does not make it a Fallout game).

Also the whole Rambo, 1 guy vs 10,000 enemies thing is so tired.

But John Rambo is cool again...

Any comparison screenshots out there? I'd like to see how the game looks under DX10.

yeah the fallout 3 comparison doesn't hold. Beth has no developmental ties with the Fallout franchise in the past...they needed a recognized name to slap on their post-apocalyptic game. The concept art looked good to me, however their choice of an epic sounding generic Lord of the Rings music shows that they simply do not "get" Fallout.

With regards to Starcraft 2, it's made by pretty much the same Blizzard (Metzen is there, so the setting will be the same, Samwise is there, so the art style will be consistent) since those who left to Arena.net/Flagship were mostly Diablo/engine (techie) guys.

Holy shit Brian, you read my mind. Except I extend fanboy forgiveness to Quake also :D.

Seriously there are only a handful of games I've never uninstalled: Nethack, Fallout, Quake I, Starcraft, and SMAC where other games come and go. They are the daily bread of my gaming life.

The design of the Terran tanks looked a little cartoony though and hopefully it will change as the game gets refined more. Other than that, no complaints. The pathfinding and unit formation looks smarter in the videos (or it could just be the uber-micro of some Korean player ).

Graphics whores never cease to amaze me.

They hired a sci-fi writer for Doom 3 and yet it still has that same basic, forgettable derivative story (though the creativity could have been limited since it was supposed to be a re-imagining of the first one).

As long as John Carmack is still of the opinion that stories in games are like stories in pornos, id's games are going to be glorified tech demos.

Meh, part of me wants this game to fail miserably simply because I know a bunch of publishers are waiting to see if this kind of business model is viable and if it succeeds, it'll have potentially dire pay to play effects on a bunch of future games.

Then again, the other part of me was interested in this game (made by some Ex-Diablo guys...come on!). I have no interest in paying monthly for extra bling and I only play multiplayer games for PvP anyways (this game is more PvE oriented from what I read) so I'll probably just be playing it for single player.

In any case, I'll just wait until it hits a GoGamer 48 madness and buy it for $20

I'm not apologizing for shoddy games journalism, but reviewers are supposedly looking at the games partly from the average consumer's perspective...that's why they don't patch games for reviews or mess with config files and tweaks.

If they're neglecting to bother with enabling simple options, maybe it's a reflection that the gaming public has simply gotten more retarded and they have to oblige.

HG:L is going to be Vista only? I've never heard this one before.

Also, Mythos is supposed to be free anyways since it's just testing the network for Hellgate.

Yeah that's what I was thinking also.

All I know is if it's another MMORPG, I'll be very disappointed. (Oh god...WTB Upgraded Gauss Shells! 25 Vespene! LFG Tarsonis Raid! PST!)
