I just migrated my library to new OS/SSD and simply copied over /steamapps/

That works if you reinstall Steam over the top. It doesn't seem to work (anymore) if you're trying to just add games back into an existing Steam installation.

Some games will reinstall if I just launch them, but so far it's about 50-50. Sigh.

Did you back up the acf files with them? I noticed when I was trying to cheat on downloading the various versions of civilization 4 (since the mods have complete copies of everything that came before) that steam ignores what is actually there if the acf file for the game in the Steam/steamapps directory says its not there.

I think ACF is also quite recent so some games you have backed up may still use the old system?

21. Another Steam Wonder bundle Dec 16, 2012, 23:07 hoolaparara

Might just be in Australia but

Price of individual games: $8.73 USD
Bundle cost: $9.99 USD

On The Crysis Maximum Edition thing on steam.

In fact its the same thing full price too now I notice.
Crysis is $14.99, Warhead $19.99.. the bundle $39.99!

(and still the cheaper price is more then steamgamesales.com reckon it is going for).

Well that's disappointing. I thought I'd try the free trial to see if it was available from the unmetered steam server on my new wireless connection (8GB a month only, but I'm finally in a broadband world). But I can't get any of the little tools people have made to block steam from other content servers on wine so I have to use my only late windows machine which only has 10 GB free and I find despite the steam store page saying it needs

Hard Drive: 8 GB free hard drive space

Steam wants 15189MB! Another wonderfully accurate store page and I see the Civ IV page still suggests it works on win 2k!

News Comments > Croteam on Windows 8 Issues
43. Re: Croteam on Windows 8 Issues Nov 17, 2012, 19:26 hoolaparara

I've not seen anybody else suggest it, but I reckon even before Windows 8 was released there was a marketing report in a desk somewhere with a couple of empty boxes to plug in numbers from windows 8.

What does it say?

Well it says that the data compiled show that home users almost never installed an application from disc, entirely using the windows store to buy their software. So in future in order to provide our users with what they want and to improve security with Windows 9(tm) Home and Home Premium editions will only run software from the Windows Store. Users wishing to install specialist niche software from disc are recommended to buy the Windows Professional version of the software.

In unrelated news, the price of Windows Professional has risen by 100% for single licenses.

As the CEO of a major multi-national, we have spent a fortune bribing convincing politicians the world over to pass free trade agreements so we can move out manufacturing to countries with the the most child lab lowest manufacturing costs and outsourcing our IT/call centres to the lowest quote.

If you allow the consumer to outsource their purchasing you undermine the whole capitalist system! We did not get all this legislation passed to save them money! Think of what this would do to our profits and my bonuses! Won't somebody please think of the CEOs!

Personally I blame the education system. If they didn't keep educating the consumer, they would not know Russia exists and be thinking about buying genuine goods at cheaper prices there or anywhere else!

Hey a thread starter!

I read the train simulator review and,
There are those in the RailWorks community that feel this free upgrade should have been optional. However happy you may be with TS 2012ís performance (and Iíd count myself as content) itís hard to disagree.

Other reasons for resenting the change include add-on aggravation: if youíve got loads of third-party content, you may find that some of it no longer functions perfectly. With DLC such a central plank of the RailWorks/TS 2012 brand, the lack of robust backwards compatibility is pretty disappointing.

Another example of why I can't stand why people crave auto-patch so much. Here's seemingly a whole game being replaced with something new. Breaking stuff and bringing machines to their knees. And the guy who owns it.. no choice but to take the update even if it's unusable afterwards.

I reckon more than half the games I've looked at in these steam sales have been almost twice as much for australians. Civ V $16.99 says steamgamesales.. $30.99 when I get there.. LA Noire was $24.99 says teamgamesales.. $44.99 when I go there.. Amazing.

The PC Release List (before and after folding into Adrenaline Vault)
a 3D game demos page in Sweden in the mid-90's I can't remember the name of
Cyrellis
Gone Gold
Games Domain
UGR.net (Ultimate Gaming Resource)
3D Files (formerly 3DfxMania)
3D Gamers

Bit of a thread liching.. but I've got to thank xymph for this.. For about 6 months I've been trying to remember what the hell the downloadable magazine I read in the early/mid 90s was. Game Bytes is what it was called and being fairly generic would never have got it. but all the issues are on the above ftp site!

Ah that dos text look....

Amnesia and Penumbra worth looking at?

I see they've still got that quirky thing where you can get a pack for more than the individual games (Stalker games at $3.74 for SoC and CoP and 8.74 for the pack!)

Another on of those nice region things, I noticed this big mass of games on the steamsales website which informed that bioshock 2 was $4.99.. Australia it's $12.49! (but still 75% off).

Also checking out the GOG halloween, Is Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption worth it?

I kind of the liked quasi-arcade style gameplay that Day of Defeat had. It's one of Valves more significant failures that gets overlooked, they bought the team and basically did nothing with it. The game gets practically no support or attention, it's a real shame.

Well they did get them to ruin DoD before putting them away

the custom of eating spicy foods is derived from the hot/tropical regions various cultures because eating spicy foods makes you perspire which cools the body down

you clearly have never been to hot/tropical regions where you dont need to eat spicy food to sweat. the high humidity will be enough to make your skin feel like wet sponge. and it wont cool your body down since sweat simply builds up and does not evaporate.

I agree on the tropics.

I was under the impression spicy food was invented to cover up for rotten meat.

I noticed this last night when I almost jumped onto the pre-order (which I was not going to since I still haven't moved to a dsl capable area). I noticed that it both had low violence splattered in big letters but was $10 more than the price mentioned in a couple of posts here ($US50! v $40 mentioned in the comments).

I wonder if this means you'll actually be able to download something on dialup now? Rather than watch as it tries to download 8 files at a time and throws a file away when the inevitable time out happens on it.

Didn't they just say that they had abandoned the episodic model, like last week?

But you guys are crazy if you don't think they're working HL3, at least somewhere in the background. They sat on HL2 for a looong time before they announced it. Just settle down and relax. It'll happen. Too much money to be made for it to not.

Besides, Half-Life's boring.

Yeah but I'm not sure working on a beard store for gordo is quite what people are thinking of.
