| I played the APB beta over the weekend. It is currently uninstalled. It tries to meld Grand Theft Auto with a MMORPG by adding bland missions (steal/plant/kill/etc) and lets the opposing side attempt to kill you during a mission, the only really unique thing about the game. Not impressed, especially for a monthly fee. |

Game journalists get free stuff, publishers get positive coverage. It's win-win, so why change?
The only way it gets changed is if people stop visiting sites (and, thus, prevent advertising revenue) they feel isn't giving balanced coverage. |

The people online are at best belligerent and unwilling to offer help, and at worst truly unique jackasses. None of the community has any tolerance for new players.
That, sadly, was exactly my experience with the game. For two games, before I got fed up and moved on with my life. |

| That Frozen Synapse link is a preview, by the way. The finished game doesn't come out until the end of the year (or so). |

What are people's thoughts of Bad Company 2, now that you've had some time to play it?
I really liked Battlefield 2. I've heard that there are few maps with small battles and few vehicles and annoying weapon balance problems (snipers too effective, etc) and griefers. However, this may be due to the Internet phenomenon of most posts being complaints rather than positive in nature.

Similar to LSN, but much faster paced: games take between five and ten 5-second turns, and you can play more than one at a time and resume another day (I am in six games at the moment) because of the turn-based nature of it.
There are plans to add co-op before the game's release later this year.
The game includes a YouTube export feature for game videos; just search there for ones that people have uploaded to get an idea of what the game is about. |
