The port of the first game was pretty barebones, gonna skip this until its on extreme sale. The last time they didn't even offer key rebindings and they locked out the config files.

And 30fps cap!

Fortunately for the 30FPS cap there was a 3rd party utility to unlock the framerate. Still dumb though.

Yeah, only reason I picked it back up.

I never played it as it seemed a large part of what they were proud of was its creative use of bad language. I figured if that's one of the main selling points of the game, no thanks. Was an incredibly cheap, juvenile tactic. If it actually was good, low sales seems like a marketing failure.

Like I said, the attempt at in-your-face marketing failed, as it almost always does. This wasn't "Make You It's Bitch" bad, but it was close as far as terrible advertising goes.

I feel the same, the advertising was broadcasting to me, 'THIS GAME ISN'T FOR YOU.' Not that cursing offends me, it just all seemed very juvenile. I imagine the dudebro market probably received it a little better.
Which was really disappointing after how awesome painkiller was.

Maybe I will need to go check it out afteralll... I already know the lack of jumping will take some getting used to, heh.

Showed my girlfriend this and she said "white knights are so fucking annoying." Sums the whole thing up well I thought.

Most invented internet drama I have seen in a while.

Well, perhaps you and your girlfriend should refrain from using ad hominem just because you disagree.

I agree, it is slightly silly to to get worked up about this, it doesn't seem to be something that was 'company wide' or anything. Just somebody putting their foot in their mouth.

That being said just because someone voices their opinion about it and they happen to have a penis doesn't mean they are white knighting. These same people may speak up with regards to issues of homosexuality. Are we to assume they are just doing it for the hope of getting laid? What if it's speaking out against racism? Is that also motivated by sex? How come it always needs to be about getting laid when it comes to Men speaking up about these issues, but not in these other cases?

I'm not saying white knights don't exist, they certainly do - I think it's unfair to assume so without more information on the person themselves.

Cevat Yerli: Ummm, yea Americans want things like a living wage, workers rights, & health care...In China we pay none of that & get slave labor to boot! PROFIT FTW! *Cheap Shot*

Since when do most American workers make a living wage, have rights, and get health care insurance? China may be virtual slave labor but the US isn't that far off and most people definitely fall into the category of indentured servant. And compared to other first world nations - you know, all those evil socialist countries - it's really atrocious by comparison. But hey, who needs things like a better standard of living for themselves and their families and friends when millionaires and billionaires need those tax breaks!!!

However, what I don't get, are the people that criticize D3 for being too bright and cartoony, while at the same time lauding TL2 which is orders of magnitude more bright and cartoony than D3.

I'm really hoping the Grim Dawn guys can show something off soon, they've been worryingly quiet since the Kickstarter.

My guess (and speaking for myself.) is the reason behind that is because TL2 isn't the sequel to Diablo 2, it's the sequel to Torchlight, and follows the same artistic style.

The complaint isn't 'All ARPG's need to be dark, gritty, gothic, etc.' (or however one chooses to describe it) the complaint was diablo 3 didn't fit artistically with the past Diablo games. I'm sure if there was a large deviation in style from the first torchlight we'd be hearing about it from at least some people.

What is happening to the country is called Communism.. That is the harm being done having licensed platforms.. Its spreading into all businesses, look around, all parts companies are now having SOLE distributorships, and more, to drive up cost and kill the smaller competition.

And I know a lot of you don't always catch the intelligence in my posts but think of it this way..

Why is there NOT Playstation compatibles.
Why is there NOT Xbox compatibles...
Back in the day there was Atari, and guess what
Tele-systems was Sears product, was a compatible Atari system.
and not Atari, but you no longer see this...

Communism, because no one has the intelligence or care to survive, only control

lol, "there is no copyright infingement because of communism!"

No one catches the intelligence in your posts because it doesn't appear to be present.

This is why you a reduction or outright elimination of competitors and compatible good goods and services.

I don't mind an online OPTIONAL component, I just don't see a valid reason why it has to be ONLINE ONLY (same as D3, outside of game design).

I see that they are going with a F2P model with Cash Shop which is fine, but I'd rather just pay them $50 and be done with it. If they want to have an optional B.NET like component that is funded by a cash shop (for ongoing maint, etc) that would be awesome and I would support it when I was home and could play smoothly. But I'm just not digging this direction of online only (especially non-MMO) with ARGP's which require smooth control to do well (target, etc). Even on my FIOS connection (and < 100 ms Ping) D3 bounces me around, it's not acceptable. Economies for games are a joke, D3's economy is already dead.

I'll help them load up the server and stress it, check the game out, but I'm not keen on supporting this direction for any game company, there ARE still ARGP's coming out with SP/MP options, they'll need to see some love so things like that will continue.

I hope this game is fun and hope that people who don't care about always on for non-MMO's enjoy it, but doesn't mean that because I won't support it that it is beating a dead horse. I am dissapointed to learn that it's online only.. another ARPG that I probably won't support and there are so few as it is.

It being a free to play game, unless you buy something, technically your not supporting them, you're just a drain on their rescources, though you could argue your prescence alone is a form of support.
I'm not surprised to see this as an online only game...I can't think of any free-to-play game that is, then again I don't check out a lot of free to play games, so maybe I'm just ignorant in this regard. Needless to say with a f2p model you need to generate revenue somehow, and being able to control the system will work in your favor (though certainly won't proof you against issues that might crop up.)

on a side note of it being f2p...so far the only things they have expressed that they'll have to buy is more character slots and more stash space. I don't know if that's going to be enough to generate the kind of revenues they want/need. We'll see, of course. I'm certainly okay with those options as it certainly shows its not a pay-to-win game.

not because it's greedy and avaricious (it does lots of other things for those reasons, of course), but because it doesn't want to see XBLA games being released buggy or incomplete and patched repeatedly

Can't it be both?

Lets also keep in mind that this applies to everyone, not just XBLA...This doesn't stop the big publishers from farting out games that need patches, the difference is they can afford it, so in reality this is just a punishment for indies/smaller companies, who don't have tens of thousands to roll out patches.

That doesn't make the FEZ guy any less of an idiot or a tool, he knew what he was getting into.

Good writing directs the flow of conversation to a point so that people who "get it" can have a discussion. Bad writing just makes people mad. "A Clockwork Orange" used violence and rape as a means to convey a message that could be discussed (whether you agree with the message or not). Tomb Raider uses violence and rape as a means to seem grown up even though its still an action-hero adolescent fantasy.

So... It's not bad ideas - it's bad writing.

How the hell would you know, really? The game isn't even out yet. You don't even know what the story is, the context of it is, the events around it, or anything else.

Video game writers want to tackle adult themes, but their audience isn't mature enough to handle anything even approaching anything beyond what they've already seen and are familiar and comfortable with. They automatically reject anything adult by writing it off as tropes and stereotyping, like you did with a game you haven't played and a script you haven't seen by writing it off as adolescent fantasy.

Well, to be fair, when they discussed that scene in tomb raider, it was certainly presented in that fashion you see the attempted rape (which they refuse to call it now) is in there so she can 'evolve' as a character, and that's where the silly trope pops up in that situation. They couldn't have presented a more stale and unimaginative story, that relies on the classic trope of women becoming empowered through sexual means. Its the same lazy shorthand that some tend to use when eriting, The onyl reason the scene is included is to emphasise her vulerability at the time/the evilness of the antagonist. - Seems to me like murder would be just as effective in that case. - The scene in question has been available at conventions, etc.

When Ron Rosenberg is talking about how they want to make it so the Players 'want to protect lara'(implication; because shes female) or 'root for her in a way that you might not root for a male character' seems to me like they are doing it all wrong, and are guilty of this bad writing we were talking about.

The correct conclusion to that statement is everyone would have seen diablo 3 for the terribad game that it is. Diablo 3's success has everything to do with its name and the name of it's devleoper.

This looks terrible. I'll hold my judgement for the game itself but why they went with such a generic/stylized approach to the artwork is beyond me. If your going for some post apocalyptic setting, maybe you should capture the ambiance better.

Considering this is probably going to be Epics only PC 'exclusive' for the foreseeable future, you'd think they'd want to do something that would do a better job of showing things off, show what the top end can do IN GAME, not with a cinematic.

Hhh... I would be willing to sell 90% of my entire steam catalog even just for 5 per game, or even less

I can't even imagine Steam with resale functionality. I don't even know how they could operate unless they took a healthy cut of each sale. After the first week, no one would buy new because on Steam it would be identical to used, just more expensive, and with that big of a user base, there would always be "used" available.

Just because they are obligated to let you sell your used copy doesn't mean they need to facilitate that at all. Then again, if they don't someone else might do it for them using some gamestop style model.

I never buy used though, as it's nice to know at least SOME of that money is making it back to the people who actually made the game.
