Ok, the usual dumb comments.

But for what its worth, a little bit of fact to spice the story (and show just how retarted that EA guy is):

The USK is a vast improvement compared to how it was before. Back then, there was no rating agency at all (meaning no enforabiliy, and thus it legaly did not exist). As a result, almost everything deemed not suitable for children was put on the index, meaning that you could it access about as well as weed (no advertisement allowed, no presentation in stores. You could only buy it by asking for it and showing that you are 18 or older). Doom, Quake, Duke3d, etc. No way really to get it, because shops did not stock product that they cannot reasonably sale

Well, then came the USK, which is a rating by the _industy itself_, btw. Exactly the same system than used for movies. Meaning they put a little red "18+" sticker an all the FPS, which she shop has to take care of, just like when selling porn or cigarrets.
The end result is that now, i can go into any electronics chain and by quake4 or anything like that without a problem. Its right there on the shelf.

Wanting to abolish that rating system would not work out in the way mr. florin thinks at all. if he thinks.

Not to mention that the policical and social standing of gaming is precarious at best. Such a heavy handed try at lobbying (and claiming age ratings are "censorship" and then trying to push their own age ratings is heavy handed) has a snowballs chance in hell to work. Its really more likely to make it worse for everybody.

Ah, Surf again.

Did you ever buy that copy of Sins of a Solar empires?
You know, where you were whining that they forced you to pirate it?

The game will totally bomb.
A release in Q2?
I played it 2 years ago, and downloaded the latest beta.
If this is _any_ indication for their speed of progress, i weep for them.

The game has tons of nice details (yes, formost lancing people and stuff like that), but it has more or less exhausted its userbase during all those years of beta.

No singleplayer worth mentioning besides sandbox (long strides form "nothing" is still not very much), and no multiplayer...

Dont worry.

This game will be in the savanna in africa.

Do you think it makes any difference if you have a one-hit-kill trigen, or a one-hit-kill lion out there to get you?

Well, i liked those trigens.
Some levels were a bit overdone, but they provided a nice change of pace. They just arrived when slaughtering scores of mercs started to get boring.

But i understand that some people are to chicken to play with something around that could really _kill_ you if you behave stupid...

The hardware costs should be neglectible.
Seriously, what do you think it costs?
A nice beafy server for every realm, and you are done with a milltion, tops.

Most money should actually flow into _people_, not servers.
IIRC, they have a few thousand employees that are only doing user support, GMing, ect.
Just think about it: Whats more expensive: A computer, or the monthly paycheque? (plus there are at least 20 people for every server...)

I mean, whats their track-record after nearly 4 months?

Justs a few patches to bring the game out of beta to semi-RC level.
IIRC, this "founders edition" costs more than a year of fees.
Do you really think that you will get more content in 2009?

Seriously. The only material shown is a model of duke, one of a boar-cop, and one of a tentacle thingy.

Looking at the cg-talk forums, _single persons_ often put out more impressive demo videos for their artist portfolio.

This represents maybe 1-2 work-months for a skilled artist, _from scratch_.

This thing was suck a trainwreck it physically hurt.
While some stuff was _really_ cool, potentially (especially the char-stat system), the whole project was just SO incompetent.

Examples?
After the _DEMO_, they completely changed how magic works (original was collecting spells that can be fired only once, after was "spell learning"). Totally changed the whole design. Such a thing they should have considered at the _beginning_ od the design phase.

Quests were buggy, automap not existant, but those can happen.
The main problem was the lack of everything.
The whole "city of elves" in total had less detail than the the starting severs.
5 houses, all of them just plain box-rooms without any furniture.

Everything was just so empty it felt like they didnt really want to make a game.
And especially it didnt feel like it was in development for years. Because during that time, even a bad artist could have spend 20 minutes to model a rough table and some chairs...

Well, for me it was a "must have" 18 months ago.
My enthusiasm was already severely curbed by the time the first gameplay videos were released.

Inlcuding downers like presenting dx10 effects that still looked like crap (like the wank about people walking through fog disturbing it). Yeah, cool. Distrubed gray fog over a gray street, between gray walls, under a gray sky, obscuring gray enemies.

This game has a more monoton color palette than even quake1 ever had (at least i havent seen anything in the demo or any screenshots that doesnt look the same).

And if Roper or one of his cocksuck boys want to do his iraqi defense minister impersonation, opposing views are better be encouraged.

>>They arent features if they werent in the game to begin with. *shrug*

Because something like a hardcore mode, or a stash, is _such_ on non-expectable feature in a game made by the people who made diablo2...

Just fucking DIE already.
Then you will be fine with all those boyfucking preachers in heaven, while down here nobody will pollute a thread about a gamedemo with useless drivel.

Seriously, who breeds retards like you? Did your parents ever have "the talk" with you, or are you still waiting for the relevation be jeeeezus?

Loki did just everything wrong they could do.
I dont even mean the bad performance, or the bad balancing, or the bugfest.

They implemented oblivion-like level-scaling in a diablo like game. Combine with HUGE levels with only 1-2 types of enemies in them (some times the same types in several levels after each other), and it creates a problem.

The thing is: For example, you will ALWAYS need 2 hits to kill enemy type A. If you level up, he will get more HP. And just the same, every 5 levels, the same items will drop with more damage/armor. And not in the diablo way, but really the same dog will drop a dagger with 1-6 damage, if your level is higher (and those the dog stronger) 6-10, 11-16, ..... 56-60...
They advertice 28 different weapon materials on the package, but to be honest, i didnt expect this to work that way..

Finding magical items is senseless, because you get like 1-5 fire damage, meaning after the next level up the next dog you will kill will drop something better.

Last but not least, the skills are utterly worthless, which causes most of the game to be a standard attack klickfest. And yeah, with the last patch i still played, getting NOT HIT by an enemy attack caused the "auto-hit while holding mouse-botton" to stop.
And the shiftkey (like in diablo) worked only every other time for the archeress..

To sum up, if you want to play a game where you can level up 5 level while doing nothing but killing the same archer and the same dog 800 times, just to have them get stronger again everytime to kill any sense of accomplishment, thats your game.

I think you are missing the point.

One of the reasons those zealots claim for example the BSD liscence to be incompatible with the gpl is the need to require a copyright notice in a derived work.

Well, maybe they toned it down, but in teh beginning, it was total anarchy.

Whats going on in WoW is not "grieving", its a mild annoyance.
Grieving would be like in early UO, where you would be stripped naked after a PK, because you are perfectly lootable by the killer.

You obviously never tried playing on later levels...

And also, nobody says just how fast /against whom people played UT.

I could easily see somebody trying the equivalent of gameboy tetris on 9/5 needing much more motor control than somebody playing against a single bot on "beginner"
