News Comments > Final Fantasy XI Lawsuit
26. Re: Final Fantasy XI Lawsuit Jun 25, 2009, 17:38 Cram

Just waiting for the lawsuit where 500,000+ WoW subscribers sue Blizzard for that game being too addictive and effectively ruining various parts of their lives. Or something else.

If these FFXI players have a valid case, I hope they do win. If they do win, however, I see large groups of people from all MMO's trying to band together to sue the developers for any number of things to make a quick buck.

Wow.
Just played through Second Encounter a few days ago with a friend, pretty easy to max the game out at 1600x1200+ and it still looks pretty damn good. These shots look way better. I will buy.

Take-Two and 2K Games are taking such actions with a goal of pressuring Apogee to sell the Duke Nukem franchise rights to Take-Two for less than their true value.

What value? I don't ask that to be funny.
If someone who's left at Apogee (I'm sorry) is reading this, can I get some financial numbers. Or is it so bad that Take-Two actually wanted you to pay them to take the franchise off your hands...

News Comments > NWN2: Mysteries of Westgate DRM Limit Ends
22. Re: The DRM is still there. Jun 17, 2009, 01:26 Cram

I dunno, man. A LOT of people have waiting for a Forgotten Realms MOG for a very long time now. Done right, they could make a fortune.

Myself Included.

But to take on WoW...
Conan, Warhammer, LotR and Dungeons&Dragons are all potentially lucrative IP's, and I don't think any of them have done all that well. People leave WoW for a month or two, but go back because the content just isn't there in any of those games (or there's a handful of other problems).

And it's not just WoW really. By the time this game is ready, there will be Final Fantasy XIV, Star Wars Old Republic and quite possibly another WoW expansion pack.

I just don't see NVN being at all successful. At all, in any way.

Edit: And how success will be measured for this game is pretty staggering. That last article a few days back stated that Atari is heavily dependent on this game in order to remain "successful" as a company (lol). Or whatever they said. I assume it basically means if this game goes bust, Atari is done.

So, the measure of "success" is pretty huge. I'm pretty sure 100k or 200k steady subscriptions won't even remotely be considered successful. I in no way see this game having that many steady subscriptions. They might somehow get 500k or whatever at launch, but it'll almost certainly dwindle within a couple months like it has for every other game.

Glad things got sorted out there. I also don't much care for installing games in Program Files, or on the C:\ for that matter.

Maybe the developer will make a patch for it someday to add some sort of Multiplayer to it. Probably not

I'm not the most experienced person when it comes to business and investment, but isn't risking your already struggling company's success on an MMO within an already massively saturated MMO market not the best of ideas?

With The Old Republic and FFXIV both most likely out by 2011, and WoW taking over the Megaverse.....I mean really?! Really?! I guess you gotta do something if you're already knee deep it shit, but again there are much smarter people than I out there that should be able to come up with a better idea than an MMO, at this time and in this market, when your company possibly hangs in the balance.

See, they are dealing with a real disappointment. Many people got stung hard by roper, as such, they are reluctant to care about any project he is involved in. I have no idea what Cryptic was thinking when they hired this moron, but to make one of the biggest jokes of the industry your PR guy? That's over the top in stupidity.

This.

Haters can hate all they want. The haters of the haters can say whatever they want. When it comes down to it, Cryptic hired a known proven thief and liar to be the director and head public representative of their major title. Stupidity is not a sufficient adjective.

Then again....being a thief and liar seems to be the prerequisites to being a successful salesman in today capitalistic society.

24. Re: 3D Realms Denies Buyout Offer May 17, 2009, 05:17 Cram

The number of valid reasons people have to have an issue laced in hate with Bill Roper & Flagship is beyond staggering. Dades barely scratched the surface in his post. There is no "knocking someone down to make yourself feel superior" when it comes Bill & Flagship. If anything, it is the complete opposite. Bill screws over his customers, goes belly-up and then immediately gets a new job as a director at another company. It's like a double kick in the balls for Hellgate customers. He lies, cheats, steals...and is rewarded with a Director position at another company.

As for 3DR, I'm disappointed. I wasn't a regular supporter of 3DR, I'm sure there were many on the sites forums. I'm sure they have some valid reasons to be upset. Maybe a few of them aren't going about it, expressing their anger, in the right way if their hate is garnering this kind of attention and analysis from other people. Or maybe people should stop analyzing other people on the internet.

Very Excited about this game, save for one thing.

In a recent post on the Larian forums, community manager Lynn gave the impression she (and thus the company in the context she was discussing) supports DRM like SecuRom. I will not be purchasing this game if it ends up being DRM'd to sh*t. Still, no confirmed information regarding a publisher for this game in North America.

News Comments > On Blizzard's New IP
24. Re: 2013 May 13, 2009, 18:47 Cram

I would prefer they (and all devs) refrain from any form of mention, announcement, leak, whatever the hell you want to call it... till there is some substance and is preferably going to be released within a year or two.

Ultimately, no one is forcing you to read or discuss anything about any announced or unannounced project if you don't want too.

I would prefer Blizzard just release Starcraft II instead of spewing out 200000 screenshots a month and basically discussing absolutely everything there is too know about the game before it is even released. To that end, I just ignore anything related to SCII and Diablo 3. Sure they're announced projects, but the concept of ignoring things you don't want to hear about remains the same.

We would all prefer "less talk more game" from Blizzard no matter what the context, but that is simply unrealistic so take responsibility for yourself to avoid the things you don't like (Blizzard discussing whatever in any context regarding unannounced projects), and don't want to hear about.

6. Re: Thief 4 Reveal Next Week? May 4, 2009, 17:48 Cram

Having said that, I am totally expecting some "hip" 20 year old girl with a "punk" stle set in a future landscape.

I remember reading a lot of supposive leaked information a number of months ago, with a couple art screenshots, that basically supports that. Though the 20yr punk girl was a 20yr old punk guy in the stills.

Thief based in the 21st century was the premise. Guy was wearing punkish/biker clothes carrying some sort of case in one of the shots.

Edit: I spent a few minutes trying to find the stuff I read and couldn't. Oh well. Beyond the premise being absolutely absurd even from a Thief Series point of view, I'd love to play a Thief 4.

Was thinking the same thing #21 said about the gunstore analogy.
Not familiar with many guns stores that skip background checks and say "hey, I don't need this person to pay me for this gun", then call up Fedex and ship a gun to someone's mailbox (priority shipping). Nevermind it being a gun that could one-shot entire cities at once. I would imagine if this did happen, the media circus/focus would be 99.9% about how that person got the gun, and then 0.01% about why this person didn't report getting a city raping gun in the mail that morning.

"I don't see why people are mad at Blizzard. Really. Unless you are the person who got banned, you have no reason to be frustrated by the actions Blizzard took on those players."

Ok, guess I gotta repost my example.

I just think about potential situations like this, for example. Say I've gone on vacation for two weeks. I have multiple chars on my account. One char is a member of this guild. I was on vacation while all this cheating occured, I didn't even know about it. I come home, my ACCOUNT (not just the char) has been banned and deleted (apparently). Sure I'm mad at the person(s) that cheated, but I'd be more pissed at Blizzard for how they handled it and how the item got into the possession of the person in the guild in the first place. Also, I'd obviously ask Blizzard in a not so respectful manner: "why me, seriously?" I fully expect anyone that ever got an item like that would use it, so I will only put so much blame on the item user. It's a game (where the idea is to get the most powerful loot), it's not like doing heroine where people blame the user more than the pusher. So, my account is banned, I had nothing to do with anything and that's the final word. Not a cool thought.

I have no tolerance for punishment of "wrong place wrong time" situations. I will not assume that every single person in the guild was in on it and all benefited directly, or even indirectly, from that item. I have the right to be mad at Blizzard if they punish people (by banning and/or deletion especially) for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This could happen to anyone. No one deserves to lose their account when they weren't involved.

Edit: It's unfortunate some people feel that it's ok for Blizzard to go recklessly ban-happy. Imagining myself waking up one day and logging on to WoW only to find my lvl 80 has been deleted by Blizzard because my char was somehow associated, guild association or whatever, with someone that cheated is disturbing.

Not a fan of how Blizzard banned everyone in the guild, not just the people in the raids. Blizzard can easily track who was in what raid etc. The restoration process Blizzard uses has shown me in my experience that they can go back years now and see who was in what raid and who got what: item, kill, achievement etc. It is all saved. I know the EULA is pretty subjective, but I'm fairly certain there is a line that says something along the lines of Blizzard being able to ban people that use cheats to their benefit. Not Blizzard being able to ban accounts that have a character who is a member of a guild where one of the members is cheating, and where that player is not benefiting at all from those cheats. It's a sad case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time for some of those guild members, and Blizzard just trying to clean up the mess they're responsible for by completely covering it up and banning absolutely everyone.

The author of the article is trying to sound like he's on some higher plane of existence than everybody else. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." lol.

In no order; M*A*S*H, X-Files, BSG, Southpark, DS9
I would like to throw SG-1 onto the list, but the writers ran out of ideas and recycled things so much more than any other series (besides Atlantis) I have ever watched. There are way too many episodes you watch once and don't ever feel like watching again; many SG-1 eps have a very very low replay value. I have Southpark on my list, but I'm afraid it won't be there for long if the last season and a half is any indication.
