Getting into POE takes a bit, I know I played it on and off for a few months before the hook really got me.
But once you are hooked in, the depth of this game is amazing. It's designed to build upon complexity the more you play.
Where Diablo 3 is shallow, this game grows more and more over time. The developers are not trying to create a mass market game that appeals to everyone and that is OK! It's a niche and they want that.
I sunk a lot of time into the D3 and followed the community for a good while. The difference in the POE community and team is refreshing, it's a small 25ish sized company and front PR person is the lead developer! This is more comparable to Blizzard North circa 2000 than anything like Blizzard now.
I'll leave with a link to a video of a level 35 character showing a taste of the possibilities: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-sczXBrB8c |

This BS is caused by the lack of pre loading assets. You don't notice on a SSD but on a spinning drive D3 will slowly load assets into memory on demand which is why the first few minutes of the game is ass.
Other games do this too but often give you the option to preload at the start (so slower loading time initially, but before you're actually running around in the game). |

Gemini Rue is part of the new IndieRoyale bundle, which also includes A.R.E.S, Nimbus and Sanctum. Thanks for the tip off, great deal. |

"Energy as a skill resource has been removed from the game. Instead, skill recharge will determine how often a skill can be used. The energy meter has been replaced by one that now functions as a dodge meter. The meter will display how much dodge power you have, and when you dodge you avoid all incoming attacks. You can dodge as long as you have energy left in the meter."
Makes sense to simplify things. I believe GW1 works this way as well. Having a 'dodge meter' will also help makes things a bit more realistic, i.e no bunny hopping. |

There is a FAQ http://www.avernum.com/avernum/avernumFAQ.html that explains that is essentially a rewrite of Avernum (which was also a rewrite of Exile: Escape From the Pit).
I played through the demo of their last release, Avadon: The Black Fortress and found it enjoyable, if not a tad predictable if you've played previous Spiderweb games. I do wonder how it fairs on the iPad.
Edit: A review from iTunes: "The game has too much walking around and dialog. If you are looking for a hack and slash with loot, this is not it." had me lols. |

| If it isn't - maybe it should be. The execs can't ignore a division that's growing, especially when so many areas of MS (including the share price) are fairly flat. Also, it's the one consumer focused division that is actually succeeding. |

The Terraria devs are iterating pretty fast too, next update will have UI polish and after that they've said they'll start working on adding more content (esp. higher level I believe).

Just got my Nightmare Pickaxe. Since I've bought the game the devs have pushed a new release which added new features. The Guide is much, much more useful now.
My only gripe with Terraria would be the lack of support setting up a multiplayer game. At home I had to setup port forwarding to host a game. I'm a techie guy, wasn't too bad setting this (been ages since I've had to do so though). However my not so techie friends would not be able to figure this out which sucks. |

eRe4s3r wrote on May 22, 2011, 23:15: Wow then it seems i draw the short straw - my steam install failed the XNA install because something was missing, so i had to install everything by hand (its a problem i have more often than i want on steam for some reason)
Only thing i found that the XNA thing needs is the Visual C# Express install, it asked to me to install a crapload of stuff (wasn't exactly clear what i needed and what not) and downloaded it over the web, so maybe steam installs a different package there, still it conflicted with something else i had installed (i coded back in the days, and still have some visual C stuff laying around Having old developer tools on your machine would have triggered the various developer tool updates. May have something to do with the way the game has packaged XNA. |

| I've been using Lastpass for the last four months or so and that's working out pretty well. Just have to remember a few passwords where Lastpass is not available (like PSN...) |

| 20 years is a great achievement. A fair scarier number would be adding up all of the time spent playing Blizzard games... I know I'd contribute way too much. |
