Damage control like the above isnt gonna work and their rep is at stake. Someone will be fired in the upper-levels of C-Net even if we never hear about it. Lots of internal strife must be occuring at CNet.

grumble.... Jeff G's typically condescending reviews were annoying and getting more annoying with every year that passed. He loved games (which is essential) but his reviews are always based on "what the 'lord of the manor' Jeff G sees as desirable to have in a game." Sorry but he was not a great game reviewer.

i've been readng gamespot since its inception and it was moving in a mostly good direction with Greg Kasivin as Chief Editor. but he left less than a year ago, then a surprising number of well-liked jr editors left. Now its pretty clear something was not healthy over there since editors were continuing to jump ship. Honestly though -- Jeff Gurstman should have known he wasnt right for the Chief Editor job -- he's typically too subjective in his reviews and he's cranky in personality. I'm not shocked his editorial tenure lasted less than 3 months, even if the manner that he was fired was highly and deeply unprofessional by C-Net.

this is the only MMO game I liked but then again -- like all of them -- it gets boring doing the same things and earning only slight rewards for the effort. i'm not convinced MMO's can continue to be popular unless they come up with something truly different.

Chaos Theory really was a fun game and the graphics were very well done. Experienced no bugs here. Rainbox six is a different mechanic than Chaos though so I'm not sure these 2 games attract the same type of gamer. I personally could care less about team-based real-time combat but I had a blast with the single-character gameplay of chaos theory.

The AI is not "retarded:" that's a big exageration. The reactions to the invisibility option (or lack of reaction) could have been done better but that's the only glaring AI error. I do like how they dont just stand there when I lob a grenade. The game is FUN but I'm not sure I'm completely sold on the invisibility mechanic in conjunction with the quick and automatic health regen -- it can make the game too easy at normal difficulty. It still beats single-player COD4 and BioShock by miles.

I suppose phones like the iphone makes better games possible, but I'm not convinced we will be gatting anything more than variations on "bejewled" and "pacman"

it was the superior AI in Far Cry that kept me interested especially in the outdoor areas and playing at harder diffuculties. You couldnt simply run and gun. The AI would react differently everytime. it was very good at flanking and didnt rely on respawning enemies to create difficulty. Hopefully Crysis will have great AI too.

if you check out the pics and gameplay videos, the game starts with the "jungle" and then becomes very very different. Dont dismiss the game just yet. I'm waiting to see several reviews before I buy.
p.s. The namecalling and off-topic posts on this board lately are wayyyy out of hand. that's a shame.

agreed with hubricide. The consumer masses discovered WOW and loved it to death, but whatever comes next will need to be different to attract them again. TR comes across as a capture -the-flag FPS but the ultra-generic look of everything left me unimpressed. I dont think its gonna fly. Garriot promised innovative but it really isnt.
