5 years ago, IGN would have never dared to publish that article without offending hordes of rabid FF fans. But the FF fans have dwindled in number over time. I think we have a younger generation of console gamers that do not enjoy the FF games as much. Square better watch out.

Ugh

1 the camera (should have been designed with a fixed isometric camera)
2 Deeply awkward combat that is "fixed" in the add-ons by making the combat easy and the loot over-powered
3 goofy wonky party AI.

A game engine that needs to disappear.

good for amazon! Its another reason not to go to a gamestop ever again. Cannot stand those places. Bad service and too many scratched game disks when I buy used, at least in NYC

PSP sales are largely driven by the ability hack it and the hack is easy. So SONY has to ditch the current PSP. Nintendo has the problem even worse and the DSi was their attempt to stem hacks.

Sure but smaller teams tend to make casual games and portable games.

That's fine, but those games are not substitutes for a new KOTOR3, etc.

Agreed with Creston. Smartphones have their uses but nothing replaces a screen and keyboard when you want to actually _compute_ on the go. The net book offers incredible portability at a $300 pricepoint. That article was kinda lame.

14. Re: Game Warning Study Mar 3, 2009, 15:59 dryden555

Hey Overon, it isnt clear from the news blurb what the researchers constituted "objectionable violence" in a videogame. Is the violence in Halo 3 objectionable according to them? For example if the kids read one about game that was about leading a unicorn thru a bed of flowers and then read a game that was like Halo 3, then the kids obviously will tell the researchers they want to play Halo 3. Its all about context. And of course, 310 kids is not a large enough sample size. What this "study" really constitutes is an opportunity for two guys to get their professorships.

they do look at least partially photoshopped dont they? The developers had a hard enough time getting the PC version stable, so one has to wonder if shoehorning this game into a console will go well.

agreed but FC2 on the 360 was a technical marvel. While Crysis couldnt possible run without major changes to the engine on a console.

WOW's massive global popularity means there are literally 10 years olds on the servers. Joining a guild doesnt help because folks keep recruiting the kids into the guilds to keep the numbers up. No thanks.

I want an MMO were no one under the age of 18 is allowed on the server. It wouldnt fix all of the problems but it would fix whole lots of them. yes I know maturity isnt a strict function of age but its an important indicator.

it did sell well though it was aggressively marketed and then quickly discounted and then repackaged. Maybe I'm wrong and its a solid game but the demo didnt sell it to me!

I played the 7 day free trial about 4 months ago. There are more areas to explore than when it launched. The problem for me is that much of the DandD ruleset simply doesnt apply in order to make the game "work" as an MMO. It is a very simplified version of DandD. It was easy for me to walk away after the trial ended.....

my sole complaint about TN is that you were using rail guns from long distances so that meant you were often shooting at literally black dots on the landscape.

that is interesting Blue. I'm a NYC'er too. Honestly as I get older I believe almost nothing anyone tells me these days if its offered as an "official announcement." There always an agenda and it is usually involves lying to cover asses.

nope scottish -- you say:
Uh, no it's not. Real-time with pause does not equal turn-based. Play some Jagged Alliance 2, and then come back and say that KotOR is turned base.

Oh c'mon I have played JAG2 to death and loved it. You can turn on all manner of pauses and information to make KOTOR turn-based. You are arguing hairs of difference.

On KOTOR 1 being too wayyyy too easy? I suppose you could argue that but that wasnt my impression.

KOTOR1 was the last good _party-based_ turn based crpg.

Hey vrok

1. NWN came before KotOR.

I was not suggesting that.

2. They use the same combat system.

Huh? not remotely -- not sure how to begin replying to that.

3. You're talking about pausing and queuing up combat actions. Not actual turn-based combat.

No sorry. You can hit the space bar in KOTOR and direct ALL of the party characters (as with Baldur's Gate) and you can also choose to have the action stop at the end of every turn, and with messages telling you all of this info. It is genuinely turn-based at that point. NW1 -- as released -- never let you do that though perhaps there was a mod later. But I never heard of such a mod.

My main point still holds -- the high point for _party-based_ crpg's was BG2 and KOTOR 1.

I'm enjoying the demo -- its cheesy but fun. The more you play, the more battle options you have to choose from, so in a way the game is least interesting for the first hour of gameplay.
