Your point about money up front business model carries an expectation that a products not faulty. Define "faulty." Bug free? Then stop buying software. "Manageable bugs?" That's a fair expectation. Did you ever see a movie you didn't like? Is that "faulty" entertainment? Can you get your money back? No, you can't.

You, sir, need to have realistic expectations, or expect to see gaming go away.

Hollywood is another of those corporate scam artists who have lost sight of who the customer really is(even more so than the gaming industry)and no, I rarely go to the cinema at all and I don't buy dvd's or blu-ray's.

Gaming will NOT go away. Hyperbole there.
{soapbox mode on}
However I would not bat one eyelid if 90% of current publishers went bust because people stopped buying their bullshit. EA, Ubisoft and even Zenimax I'd like to see go bust so the message would go out that WE are the customers and if you piss on us then you lose.
I do not however hold any hope that this will happen as stupid kids will still wet themselves like over excited puppies for Modern Warfare 2,3,4,.....50,000.
Let's take Zenimax,Bethesda & Skyrim as an example......
Skyrim through Steam in Australia is STILL $90 USD!!!
Whereas it is only $60 USD if you live in the USA.
The AUD is ahead of the USD in value. There is NO shipping costs to speak of so, this is a blatant and deliberate RIP-OFF!!
I have NO sympathy for any company who does this and dies.
Let's hear how you justify that sort of shit Mr.Devinoch.
This is only one example, you need to take your head out of your arse and take off your rose colored glasses.
{soapbox mode off}

Game crashes happen. If they happen a lot, then yes, by all means, yell at the developer, that's a game-breaker.

Ah yes. However the problem is they already have your money.
Money up front business model carrys with them an expectation of receiving a product that is not faulty. How many will refund that money?

You sir need to stop bending over and taking it up the arse from big corporations so often.
The more you bend over and say "more please" the more they will do it.

Games are expensive to make. You know why you don't get patches? Because people didn't buy the game. If people don't buy the game, there's no money incoming to improve the game. It was easy to QA games in the Atari 2600 days. Now there's so much content in games, it's nearly impossible for anyone to have seen it all once, much less the 50-100 times it takes to properly QA it.

So what your saying is games publishers are selling FAULTY products and whether you get that product fixed or not depends on people buying that product?

If you can't see how wrong this business model is then you are lacking in active brain cells sir.

People need to stop being all sandy vag.

They'll keep doing dodgy shit if you keep buying their games.

And on the other hand you have horrific markups for the EU and Australia for I don't even know what reason.

Your kidding right?

GREED.

For decades greedy media corporations have been raping the consumer.
However NOW the consumer has more power and choice.
Even if that choice is piracy the consequences to the individual is almost non existent.
Now the greedy media corporations are having a "throw yourself on the floor, kicking and screaming" tantrum because the power balance is shifting in the direction of the consumer not the greedy corporation.
They want you "consuming" not "sharing".
That is why you have COICA, SOPA, PIPA and whatever they called that video tape one.
I for one hope I live long enough to see Wall Street BURN.
It will happen. It's only a matter of time.
I hope when the dust settles they build something that works better for ALL people not just the privileged few.

Maybe the problem doesn't lie in the piracy statistics but instead the business model you're referring to.

100% This.

Notch seems a happy chappy with his success. Good on him.
However once corporations get involved it's never enough.
They will lie, pander, sleaze, grease, bend and outright break the laws to get you to part with your money BUT, don't ever break the law against them because then the tears will really flow.

i.e. "We're super rich but, you nasty pirates are preventing us from getting MEGA-ULTRA rich.

Ok ventry, define "normal" in the way you mean it then if you want. The word has like 8 definitions, some value laden and some not.

Say you were a doctor delivering babies and humanity had by then developed some way of reliably detecting a newborn's sexual disposition/orientation (just a hypothetical). Upon delivery of said gay baby (LOL), perfectly healthy and without blemish, would you then tell the mother, "Here's your baby, healthy in every distinguishable way!"

Mother(looking up expectantly at you): "So he/she is normal then?"

OK! For the last time.
You don't have kids do you?
That's the first thing OB nurses do when a baby is born.
Check for abnormalities. 10 fingers, 10 toes, no sign of Downs Syndrome etc.
As future sexual orientation is untestable, your point is moot.

Animals for Crackers wrote on Oct 28, 2011, 03:13:
Edit: I guess what I'm trying to get at with this one is... Say you walk up to someone and tell them they aren't normal, do you really think they're going to take it as, "Oh, he's just saying I'm not part of a normal statistical distribution for such-and-such trait!" No, people are going to usually go with the most common usage first, absent any specific definition of the word. You'll likely piss them off, people generally don't like being called aberrant freaks.

YERR!! DUUUHHHH!!
If you walk up to someone and tell them they are ugly it's likely to piss them off too. People generally don't like being called ugly.
HOWEVER, it doesn't change the fact they may well be ugly as a hat full of assholes.

I am friends with a Downs Syndrome sufferer. I would never think of telling him he's not normal despite what the REAL TRUTH is.

Time to hang it up dude. That's what I'm planning to do.
Feel free to have the "last" word if you must.

Sure they did. However did they do so for the purpose of procreation?
Besides you still can't get past the facts:
Penis ----> Vagina
Sperm ----> Egg
Procreation

Penis -----> Anus
Tongue -----> Clitoris
Is not gonna get it done. (leaving science's interference aside).

Thank god you've cleared that up, for a while I thought sex was more often about pleasure than procreation but you've really enlightened me. From now on I'll only have sex to inject my sperm at eggs. And masturbation? Right out; it's unnatural!

WOW! dude.
You act as if I said you could not have sex????
You may have as much sex (toss off) as you want dude. I couldn't care less.
Homosexuals can have as much sex as they want. Was never about that.
Get ya head back in the game dude. LOL

Nature says so.

you do know that there are many instances of homosexuality in the animal kingdom, right?

So is mutated birth and cerebral palsy etc. Still not normal.

I'm done with the moral discussion. Believe what you want.
This is all opinion based. I stated mine.
For the rest of the time I've been laughing at how butthurt some people have got. (not you Space Captain)
Like my opinion is going to change their life or something.
So nice to know that my opinion carries such weight. LOL

*sigh* Ok! For the pedantic (and those with very little active brain cells).....
Place 100,000 gay men AND women on an island with NO access to adoption or IVF and that group of citizens will be dead and gone in around 50 years. No way to procreate you see.
One or the other will have to cross over to the other side and fuck the other otherwise their dead and buried. I guess that would make them bi-sexual.

You'd be incorrect (and somewhat ignorant). They could choose to attempt to procreate despite their sexual orientation, particularly if survival was an imperative. No, that doesn't make them bi, bi is a person who is attracted to and chooses to have sex with both sexes.

Yeah. Well, the bi thing was more of a "tongue in cheek" thing.
How many Homosexuals do you think would "cross over" if push came to shove? Not many I dare say.

Asmo wrote on Oct 27, 2011, 23:53:
Homosexual/lesbian people are much like straights in that they have one 'type'. You don't think gay guys and girls ever experimented when they were young to see if they were "normal" (heavy emphasis on the quotes there).

Sure they did. However did they do so for the purpose of procreation?
