* Titan will no longer be able to move once its shields are down, so that lag within the titan should be significantly reduced and being revived inside the titan shouldn't be a problem any more "

Awesome, that's exactly what I was hoping they would do.

This game looks like it might be a lot of fun...I like the way it appears you can issue orders and coordinate attacks with your squad -- it appears to have some features that I wish Swat4 had, and the graphics don't look terrible shabby, either. I'll probably pick this one up, too.

News Comments > BF2142 Update

So far I'm having a blast with 2142. With the incentives for attacking/defending titans you can easily rack up 150-250 points per round (20 points for destroying 4 titan guns (+1 point per gun), limit 2 per round -- 20 points for killing 7 enemies attacking your titan (+14 for kill and defend point), no limit per round)...making the unlocks really easy to come by. I'm already 1/3 of the way to the total amount of points I racked up in BF2 over the 100 hours i played it, and i've only played 2142 for like...15 hours?

I have had my unlocks/rank disappear upon joining a server a few times, but I found that if you play through a round or two they mysteriously appear again (well, 2 out of 3 times they did).

Also, I have lost points from server crashes. In my experience it doesn't appear the server sends update information at the end of each map or round because I was disconnected from a server (crash) and lost ~600-700 points that never managed to show up (I'd been on there a couple of hours or so). However, it looks like if you get a rank promotion or choose an unlock those are saved no matter if there's a crash or not.

Probably the biggest thing that pleases me is how they cut down on the loading times a lot (for me anyway...and I'm on a laptop).

I'm not "running around in 2142 trying to find each and every ad so that they can see this 'famous' adware in action" because it's not a big deal to me -- it's not an industry first.

secondly, i'm not "JUST FEEDING THE TROLLS" since I bought the game -- i'm providing myself entertainment (probably at least 100 hours worth), and I could care less if joe & sally think boycotting a game, that has great gameplay, will make a difference to a company they vehemently oppose.

I think it would be awesome, in an amusing sort of way, if the game started delivering my porn ads. Talk about "Game Experience May Change During Online Play."

all this bitching... all you'll have to do is block the ad server with your firewall just like you could with swat4

News Comments > BF2142 Demo Issue
46. No subject Oct 9, 2006, 18:08 JaZeeL

Another thing I really like about 2142 is how you can spawn on any friendly transport...it doesn't have to be one with your squad leader in it. It makes it real easy to link up with other squads if you continually spawn on only moving spawn points (transports) ...I've had some really awesome games over the past few days. You can really tell more people are getting the hang of the game and starting to work together more now that they have a better idea of how to do things. We held off an assault on our titan last night foreeeeeeever and managed to win despite the fact that the enemy's titan shield was only 25% down when they were already assaulting our titan...was a real blast working along with other teamworking squads to hold them off.

yeah, it definately seems there is locational damage on the vehicles -- i've noticed the mechs are particularly tender from underneath with the rocket launcher

...it's really a shame they didn't provide at least X number of unlocks for you to play with with the demo because i feel like they (EMP nades, for example) would drastically change things... some documentation would be nice, too.

I haven't had any problems binding/assigning keys and having them stay to what I set them -- however, I am having the "disconnect" issues. However, I think the EA master server is overloaded and that is the source of the disconnects...I'm pretty sure that between hours and days from now that won't be as much of an issue or an issue at all. I only played the beta for about 15 minutes, but so far I'm finding the demo pretty entertaining (have played it for probably 1.5-2.0 hours now).

Edit: It might just be because the demo isn't as bloated as the full game, but I'm finding map loads ridiculesly faster than in BF2

And nin, perhaps I should explain my logic to you. As I said before, a game is only great if you make it that way. You can easily ruin the greatest of games by cheating or exploiting bugs and unbalanced features. I know because I used to be a chronic cheater. I would flip on God mode, all weapons, all items, etc, as soon as I started any game and as such, many of my early gameplay experiences were completely ruined. I can never get those experiences back since time has passed, my standards have changed and first impressions are always the most important. Since then, I've made a vow to never cheat, use strategy guides (unless I'm completely stuck) or exploit any bugs or features that would ultimately cheapen the experience. Thanks to these rules, I now enjoy games much more than I used to.

It sounds cheesy as hell, but it's absolutely true.

Wow, I've been waiting on most of the features of this update for years. Very cool -- however, I won't get to give it a whirl until after I get back from the beach this weekend.

This is definately the biggest release since Special Forces.

I'm not saying that it's not the developers fault if a game isn't properly balanced. I'm just saying that you got what you asked for when you played that way.

I came across a similar problem with GTA: San Andreas -- from out of the gate you could bet on the highest stake horse at the horse races, keep reloading until you won, rinse, and repeat. Did they intend for people to do this? Surely not, because it made the rest of the game boring when you then had infinite ammo, the best weaponry money could buy you, and access to everything else you could buy.

If you play cheap then you get a cheap thrill in return.

I've got to agree with the fellows who say you're asking for boredom and monotony by using 130% chameleon.

Oh, and I guess item enchantment wasn't "key" to my gameplay. I played the game for >70 hours, and I never even started the mage guild quests...much less enchanted obscenely unbalanced items for myself. I've been doing what others have suggested in this thread for years...either making guidelines for myself to make the game more challenging (in stealth games, for example) or playing on the hardest difficulty from the outset to get the most challenge/stimulation out of a game. No matter what game you're playing, cheating (yes, this might as well be using a cheatcode...you're basically using a 'notarget' cheatcode) will always ruin the gaming experience and make it shortlived for you.

Edit: Oh, and I had an archer build -- primarily because my system specs wouldn't have allowed me to have done a melee character as I would have died during most intense melee battles from system lag.
