That and my being accustomed to the higher quality in Mumble and Ventrilo. I have talked to some friends in both Steam and other programs, and Steam is definitely less pretty, but still usable. |

- Changed microphone voice input from 11khz to 16 khz - Changed voice output from 8khz to 16khz Is this going to count for Source games too, or just Steam itself? The voice quality was horrifying last time I heard it. |

| It's not as big a deal as the jump from AC1 to 2. The story is completely new, and there's a few new features, but most of the gameplay is unchanged making it feel more like a "remixed" AC2. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's still really fun. |

It was about as stable as standard netimmerse engine games, which was to say about average. Mods themselves don't push the game over the allowable amount of ram unless you have your page file disabled. In which case you're creating your own crashes. It had nothing to do with the pagefile. If a program doesn't have the IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE flag flipped in its image header, Windows will only let it address 2GB of virtual memory. That's 2 GB total. Whether some of it is paged or not is irrevelant; the game only has 2 GB that it can work with, and the OS will shuffle it around between the pagefile and RAM as it sees fit. That's because of 32-bit Windows, where by default the 4 GB virtual address space is split half between user space and half for the kernel and drivers and whatnot. Many 32-bit programs count on only getting 2 GB, and giving them more just breaks them.
If that flag is flipped, the game gets up to (not quite, but certainly more than 2 GB) a full 4GB virtual address space to work with.
There's a reason why this was/is a popular tweak to the game. |

PHJF wrote on Jan 30, 2011, 17:40: GFWL isn't a problem... when it's attached to a singleplayer game. That's a crock of shit. It seriously screwed with FO3 and mods, to the point where a dummy GFWL file was made that completely deactivated it to stop the game from crashing. FO3 was super unstable on its own. And it barely fits in the amount of RAM it's got to work with; mods easily push it over the brink (one of the best ways to improve stability was flipping the executable flag to give it up to 4 GB, which IIRC necessitates disabling GFWL). I don't know if you can draw any conclusions based on that game. |

I don't remember one, but the Collector Series / X-Wing Trilogy version is kind of that; it's got X-Wing and Tie Fighter running in the X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter engine. I can't seem to find any videos of it, maybe I'll have to upload one. |

| The "implication" is that they didn't correct the string for the PS3 version, and their QA missed it. Whoopdeedoo. There's surely bigger things you can nail Activision on than that. |

Yeah, so, it's another modern combat multiplayer FPS. And with apparently nothing to distinguish itself from the many other competitors in the subgenre except for being low budget and somewhat inexpensive.
I think imma stuck with BC2. |

A multiplayer demo would be welcome greatly. Yeah, I've seen a lot of "hype" floating around the gaming sites, but I don't put much stock in it. Most of it is presumably purchased, either directly or indirectly (e.g. flying the press out to play a review copy on the THQ's dime). Haven't heard much of anything outside of the gaming press. I'm not big on buying into another FPS franchise without a demo. |

Parallax Abstraction wrote on Jan 20, 2011, 07:42: It's weird because I've heard TRON 2.0 come up on a number of podcasts lately (including ones that appreciate good PC games) and almost all of them thought it was mediocre or just bad. That still surprises me because it was wellr eviewed at the time and I thought it made fantastic use of the universe and had some really unique gameplay we haven't really seen since. I'm not sure what they think was so poor about it. There was a not-very-impressive console port of it, wasn't there? If they're not talking about that, I have no idea. |

| I kind of liked Tron 2.0, it had some good ideas going on. Multiplayer with the disappearing platforms and stuff was entertaining. Having not followed this at all, I was hoping Evolution would be building on that game to some degree. Oh well. |

GA isn't very open or large-scale either, though they've said T:U should be. |

YES!!!! That is absolutely brilliant news! Here's hoping that they're gone for good. Well, we all know ingame ads don't work. Hope this starts the downfall of all of this garbage. It was working for us here, if their closing is enough for Nadeo to begin restricting access by the free version of the game (which really was pretty much all anyone needed before). |
