So what are all those great sales then? Valve can't force companies to lower their prices but Valve sure as hell does so itself. Also free weekends.

Shut up and fuck off with the sales, kthx . The guy you quoted is 100% correct. Valve (and other publishers) first promised HUGE savings from going from manly box format to DVD box format and then again going from DVD boxed format to digital, well, and the simple matter of the fact is that the fucking savings never ever happened.

Sure, some Steam sales (which only happen like a couple times a year or MONTHS or YEARS after a game's original release) sometimes aren't too shabby for older titles to complete your collection but Steam really isn't an option for new games unless you're a retarded Valve fanboi who feels like making major donations to Gabe's ever growing FAT ASS is the way to go.

Jeez, guys. Does every dumbfuck with a Steam account who bought Borderlands really have to expose themselves and flash their inferiority? Whatever happened to showing some respect and decency towards intelligent and superior people like me, myself and I? As a non-amoeba with more than one brain cell and no Steam and no Borderlands I feel unclean in y'allz presence .

Yeah but thats not compatible then now is it? If i have to use the same workarounds i have to use when i use the version i already had then whats the point of GoG.

The point is to fill the pockets of people who are laughing their ass off at all the idiots who are buying a game they already own for the second or in some cases of extreme idiocy umpteenth time.

As for Mr. Iwinski and his little "game" remark, well, buddy come here... uncle CJ wanta play widdya. My game's called "castration" but trust me it's a whhhhoooollllle lotta fun, pal. Come here now. It won't hurt. Almost. And it's sooooo funny. Don't be shy. Come on.

I kind of hope they fail now.

The company that prided itself on DRM-free games willfully took the site down for a hoax PR stunt, brings back the site without major changes, and brags about how great it is...
Time to die.
Not planning on purchasing from them

100% ACK + QFE. They can go and fuck themselves big time as far as moi is concerned.

Wow, you're smart. Can I have your baby?
Dude, seriously, most people (like me) are pissed off because they smelled or knew it was a stunt. That's the whole point of being pissed off about this shit: Them pulling off a completely unnecessary, stupid, zero respect stunt at the expense of their paying customers.
If there really would've been any serious reason to take down the site then it would have been kinda tragic but I'm sure no one would have been that mad at them as they are now.

I'm with you guys in the camp of disgruntled (mostly ex-)customers. GOG (and CD Project on a whole including The Witcher 2) can go and fuck themselves. With the exception of potential future super-duper-mega deals on rare gems of the past I'm going to avoid their service and business like the plague from now on. If they want to screw around or toy with people then they gotta pick on someone else in the future.

So they seriously expect people to buy this game for US$ 19.99 when it's going to sell for US$ 4.99 around Halloween or Christmas at the very latest (knowing Valve's history of fucking people in the ass who buy early)? Really? Well, anyone that dumb deserves to go out of business. I'm not buying this shit until it's part of a Steam sale cuz I'm not into anal and all outta lube, too!

I think the space taken up by the GPU would be better spent on more CPU cores.

Yep. That would be really great to have even more cores doing nothing but consume power. Awesome idea. Where can I sign up to nominate you for genius of the year?

Seriously though and I'm kinda sorry to put it that bluntly but your idea is frickin retarded. The vast majority of the software/games on the market today only has rudimentary multicore support for usually dual cores and only in very rare cases up to quad cores. There is absolutely no indication that this is going to change anytime soon so using space for even more unused CPU cores would be pretty stupid.

We're talking about consumer market stuff here and the space is most certainly best put to use by a decent graphics unit that makes low end discreet gfx chips obsolete. I agree with the article that Sandy Bridge will do just that. Intel's current IGP is by far not as bad as some people are saying. People who make fun of Intel integrated graphics have probably never seen it in action because if you would then you'd know that it is by far not as sucky as popular opinion would have you believe. Naturally it's only going to get better with the next gen so I'm sure that Intel is in fact on its way to push low end discreet solutions out of the market.

JoWooD owns enough of the Gothic IP that Piranha Bytes had to come up with the name Risen and set Risen in a different world.

That... and by now they have come to a mutual, friendly agreement with Piranha Bytes regarding the usage of the Gothic license for future games (no one knows the details of that agreement, only that it exists). All the dumbfucks talking about a "stolen" IP need to get their facts straight and their heads checked. If you sign something away by contract it's not theft. Or do you tards also call your bank out for "theft" if you mortgage your house? Did the bank "steal" your house in exchange for the credit? No? Wow. I'm impressed. You're starting to learn the difference already.
It's almost exactly the same thing with developers and publishers. If the developer owns an IP they usually need to surrender their rights (at least for a given time) in exchange for the development contract and the advance payments (= the credit) included within. It's part of the publisher's security net. It's business as usual, not "stealing".

But we better stop now before I accidentally un-dumbfuck some of you jokers .

Keep in mind that the MSFS series...
... [blahbluhblahbluh] ...
Time to start shopping for new PC hardware...

I'd save that money if I were you. I don't think that they have removed the "simulator" part from the title accidentally. In fact I'm pretty damned sure that they did that fully on purpose to distinguish this new and accessible flight game from the sims of the past.
I am also sure that they don't give a rat's ass about the industry that is based on the sims of the past. If anything then they might be making a few bucks from the add-ons because of licensing fees but why would MS care about the hardware (when they have shut down their gaming peripheral division at a time when MSFS was probably near the pinnacle of its popularity) or the communities (when they have shut down their pretty popular "Zone" service)? Trust me. They don't give a fuck.
MS Flight as a part of their "Live" crap is going to be to MSFS what Windows Live Mail is to Outlook 2010. If that.

No one is going to buy a game simply because of the tech involved.

Well, wrrrrrrooooonnnnngggg . I'd be curious to know how many people ended up buying Crysis just because of the uber graphics instead of the actual game but my guess would be a lot. Heck, even I bought Q3A and UT primarily because of the visuals back in the day and to give my neat, new rig something to chew on. I wasn't really all that interested in the multiplayer aspect of those games. I used them more as tech demo toys and for benchmark comparisons and so on. Of course those days are now long gone since the age of PC-exclusive games with ubah visuals has come to an end with the release (and lack of success) of Crysis.

In the end how an engine looks is in the hands of the artists, not the programmers.

Well, wrrrrrrrroooonnnnnggg, too (ya on a roll again, Humpy ). The "looks" of an engine are in fact very much determined by the programmers since they are the ones laying the groundwork for the artists (and everyone else who is working on the actual content for that matter).
Naturally it very much depends on the capabilities of the engine (polycount and all that) how detailed the art assets can be or must be or how detailed the animations can be or need to be etc.

Of course it is true that talented artists can contribute to covering up the shittiness of an engine to some extent. Prime example: World of Warcraft. Great artistic design and a relatively good looking game in spite of the shortcomings of the engine.

But no matter what the Blizz artists are doing WoW will never ever look like Age of Conan simply because AoC's engine has been made to deal with a totally different level of detail and a set of graphical features that WoW can only dream about. AoC's just been made like that. By programmers. Not artists. Artists are just the ones who get "shopping lists" of stuff to create/paint/texture/model/animate/whatever. They pretty much have zero influence on the engine or its looks per se.
