I'm...kind of underwhelmed by the launch of the Z68 platform.

SSD caching? That's it?

Well, congrats on obviously not reading (or understanding?) any of the linked reviews at all. There are a few more noteworthy benefits of Z68 but you know what? HAHA. I'm not gonna tell your lazy ass. Go read it yourself.

Also, if you would be informed (very hypothetically speaking here) you would have known what to expect of Z68 and what place it is taking between P67 and Z77 (Panther Point) next year. It's called having realistic expectations after thoroughly informing yourself about a new technology but that would require reading (the actual act of reading plus comprehension) which brings us back to square one of your apparent issues *sigh*...

Wow, such a cookie cutter platform/fighter game this appears to be. Disappointment is huge.

I was hoping for scary, haunting and shocking with more realism.

All 3rd person view is also a let down.

Qué el fucko?!? Why the fuck would you expect anything like that from an Alice game? The first game was all 3rd person. It was not scary or haunting, let alone "shocking" (*ROFL* at that one) unless maybe if you were three years old at the time and it was most definitely not even close to realistic (even bigger *ROFL* at that one). Get a frickin' clue about what (kind of) game we're talking about here, will ya please? kthx.

Wait... weren't we all complaining about the WoWification of it pretty recently?

What are you? A mindless drone that is controlled by a hive mind and needs to reassure itself that it is programmed correctly?
Sheesh, dude. How about making up your own fucking mind about what you think about the "WoWification" (or not) of Diablo 3? What a concept! Actually, you know, being secure and thinking all for yourself. Wow! A-fucking-mazing!

It didn't disrupt the operations of a commercial online service. For one it's free to play online, for two it wasn't an Activision server.

First of all I'm glad that Flatline already set you straight, son. Secondly, you may want to check if that "safety helmet" of yours isn't constricting the blood flow to those few parts of your brain that might still be functional. You're a funny critter.
The part about it not being a commercial service when actually you have to pay for the game was pretty good already but saying it wasn't an Activision server makes it almost priceless. You do realize that when talking about a "server" that there is a physical component (hardware) and a virtual component (software), right?
And guess what? The CoD server software very much belongs to Activision. As soon as you're launching their EXE and fucking around with it you're at the very least in violation of the EULA and possibly other contractual obligations. And if you're abusing their EXE in ways that include the application of a DoS attack via an external program then we are apparently in criminal act territory under UK law (Computer Misuse Act as the BBC article states) or this arrest wouldn't have taken place. It's that simple really.

It's funny that they quote the guy saying "this type of crime" when it isn't even a crime in the first place.

How is intentionally disrupting the operations of a commercial online service not a crime? Let me guess... you're one of those commie hippie assholes who believes it's only a crime if "the man" does something your type considers as bad for some mystical reason.

On the bright side, the success of Fallout: New Vegas might convince some publishers and developers that making games deeper and more complex might actually be a good thing.

You mean like the success of Dragon Age convinced BioWare to make a deeper and more complex sequel? Oh wait...

We could have done that, but that would have taken away one of the reasons why we made the game, which was to recreate the specific stories of some people who are our heroes

Heroes? So white-phosphorusing the living fuck out of a few thousand unarmed civilians is somehow considered to be "heroic"? Mmmmk. More proof that we live in a world that's fucked up beyond any hope of salvation.

Yeah, impressive how fast they fixed issues in a game based on an old engine that had the EXACT SAME ISSUES IN THE LAST FALLOUT GAME. I still can't believe they released it like that.

No kidding. This is typical Obsidian incompetence. I'm with those guys who will be waiting for the $10 (max) GOTY edition of FNV. Until then they can shove their inferior product where the sun don't shine.

Now unless they are price fixing again (in accordance with AMD and AMD's pricing of the HD 6970) this is going to end up being one of the quickest price cuts in the history of computer hardware when the HD 6970 hits the market on November 22nd.

"No company in the software development sector fires its experienced workforce."

Huh? We do it all the time. If the demand is not there, businesses have to cut the work force. If a company does not get paid, how are they going to pay the workers?

I am not saying this is the case with EA, but sometimes business owners and leaders have to make the hard decisions. This includes letting go experienced workers.

I know I should have added "unless they absolutely have to" but I thought it was clear from the context of the ongoing discussion. Whom or how many get fired depends on a lot of other factors as well, of course. Like the complexity of your software or the tools you are working with. Some people have invaluable skills or experience or a rare combination of skills so that letting them go is simply not an option.

Anyway, I think that anyone who is working in the video gaming industry should know the rules of the game. It's hire & fire at its best. If anyone wants job security they need to go look somewhere else. Actually I'm sure that EA is one of the places with the highest job security [in the video gaming industry] simply due to their sheer size. Of course no one is talking about the indies and the small studios who hire & fire all the time but if EA lays off a couple hundred out of a few thousand (Wikipedia says 8,000) it makes the headlines and there is an outcry of [dumb] people. Boom! Bang! Murder! Rape! It's just retarded.

We dont really have any of the details do we. Im under the impression that most of these people were probably working on a contractual basis of 3 or 6 months, and their contracts have probably just run out. I cant see a company firing experienced full time employees who have "permanent" positions unless they screwed up somehow.

Dude, take it easy with the intelligent comments will ya?
You're 100% correct, of course. No company in the software development sector fires its experienced workforce. The costs of hiring new (or re-hire the former) people and the expenses for fully (re-)integrating them usually far outweigh the savings of a couple months salaries. These definitely must have been temporary positions to begin with which is standard practice in a project based environment like game development. Business as usual. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Naturally all of this is a little bit hard to understand for your average Blue's News knucklehead commie cunt who's having pipe dreams about Fidel Castro run 100% employment guarantee corporations that serve as infinite pools of welfare money for the untalented, poor and lazy like themselves.

I guess what I'm really trying to say with that last paragraph is: Fuck the dumb.

/peace out

News Comments > German Call of Duty: Black Ops EU Ban
10. Re: EU Call of Duty: Black Ops German Ban Oct 28, 2010, 13:19 CJ_Parker

theyarecomingforyou wrote on Oct 28, 2010, 12:39:
The problem here lies with Germany's absurd media restrictions and censorship.

No it doesn't. I know that you're a Steam fanboi and don't want to hear it but the problem in this case is Valve. Living in Germany I can import any game from the US, the UK or Austria or from wherever the fuck I want. If the game is actually forbidden (as opposed to just being USK 18+) in Germany then there is a small risk that the game might get zapped by customs. That risk is pretty much zero if I order from the UK or Austria because of the whole free trade thing in Europe. Then if I have the game in my hands I can freely install and play it. No one can stop me from playing the game. This is how it usually works when Steam is not involved.
It is only because of Steam that I can not activate or play an imported copy of CoD Black Ops and as far as I know Black Ops is not even a forbidden game (yet). It's just a USK 18+ game. It's a complete asshole move by Valve and Activision not to allow German players to unlock their imported copies.

If German citizens aren't happy with this then they can either boycott the game - which wouldn't really help their cause

I don't give a fuck about a "cause". I will boycott this game and torrent the fucker as soon as a crack is available. Activision and Valve can fuck off and gangbang each other in the A or something.

...or they could build up enough momentum to force a change of government policy. Perhaps a game this big will be enough to finally start that.

Sorry but that is complete bullshit. After the killing sprees that we have had over here in Erfurt and in Winnenden we can call ourselves lucky that there is no total ban on violent video games. The majority of the population would be in favor of such a ban. As gamers we are the minority and we want to keep a low profile and not stir up any unnecessary shit or it might backfire very badly.
