It's pretty ballsy from EA to charge 60 bucks for a multiplayer game / interactive movie.

You mean it's ballsy to charge $60 for an entertainment medium fitting a specific genre, despite it being a median price point?

I paid my $40, I've got more than enough entertainment out of it in the last 24 hours to deem it worth the cost. Besides, it's no one's fault but your own if you don't take advantage of sales.

Yup, moved up to midnight release east coast. It should be interesting seeing how well their back-end handles this, considering much of the gaming population will be awake and itching to play.

I'd figure their back-end has done pretty well, considering that Battlelog has been up for quite a while and almost all the hardcore players have already unlocked the game and have been playing for several hours now.

Well, this one is easy enough. No buy. I believe CoD:BO may have been the last CoD title on the PC to sell in significant numbers.

If only that were true....

Hate it when they use processor model numbers instead of saying "Dual core 3.0GHz". Now i have to go look up what the fuck a E6600 is.

That might be because not all Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz are the same, especially when it comes to voltage and frequencies...and that's a big, BIG issue when you find out you're using a low-volt version.

rage at number 1 spot................lot of here complaining about the game, but no. 1 best selling games////

McDonalds is up to what, 64 MILLION customers a day? Does that mean they're using quality components in their products?

The point is, just because it sells a lot doesn't make it all that good...

RAGE is a by-the-numbers FPS with some nifty elements that don't really pan out, in a brown post-apocalyptic world inhabited by the standard cliched people...all wrapped into a story that culminates into a point where you wish you hadn't played the rest of the game because it felt like it was a waste of time.

Now, that's all WITHOUT the semi-glaring technical issues.

Even if you aren't a native speaker English is the easiest language there is and stuff like this just makes me cringe.

What makes me cringe is that people somehow believe that English is the easiest language...it's one of the few languages that are actually backwards, and learning it can be rather difficult when we're discussing grammatical structure and usage.

That said, as someone who works with non-native English-speakers/writers on a regular basis, this wasn't even close to bad, if anything it's just honest mistakes that even those who natively speak the language have issues with.

There are some serious mental issues going on there....

I honestly don't find that much different than those who memorize aspects of other games for timing...hell, seeing some things for DDR and other motion-based games it makes plenty of sense to find the rhythm and work with it.

What's all this jizzing in the industry over having your engine running in a browser nowadays. What's the benefit? IS there a benefit?

Creston

There's a browser on everyone's system, and a good chance that being able to run said browser is universal...it's a pretty big incentive to developers when there's a platform that has an almost 100% customer base with little work on the end-users' side to access.

Really man? When an MMO goes free 2 play it really shouts "I FAILED". Now your complaining that the expansion to a failed mmo isn't worth the money - what did you expect, your $30 would make it compete with wow?

City of Heroes, DDO, WoW (1-20), Champions Online, and a slew of other high-market MMOs would beg to differ with you.

Consider that LOTRO's, and most of the more recent offerings, F2P is an OPTION that allows players to play a basically unrestricted trial without having to buy anything.

The minute a game goes f2p it's dead - and everybody playing beyond a few days checking it out will deny it.

Again, those above games, which are doing just fine (if not better) tends to skew your opinion into being completely wrong.

PS Just to make this awkward - you'll try to extol the virtues of the game, whilst I'll link to subscriber figures, financial comparisons with games launched in the same window and the huge lack of community.

No need, considering those with more than 3 braincells working in unison could achieve the same level of cognizant view of how well those games are doing...

To be clear - if D&Do is lacking community, then LOTRO is trying to host a party in the desert.

A party in the desert....hrm...no one could ever attend one of those with a large turnout...

DiabloIII and a DLC pack??? Wtf??? How do you make a DLC pack for what is in all intents and purposes a multiplayer game. They gonna split D3 players up into those who have DLC and those who dont????

Smells fishy to me.

The same way they did it for Diablo 2....

There is a significant difference between a DLC (something thats decidedly single-player oriented) and expansion pack that adds a significant ammount of content and usually arrives at least 6 months to a year after a game's release.

Not really, LOD had a lot more single-player oriented elements than it did for the Bnet side of things. It's also about the same size in terms of content length that most DLCs today get...the difference is that digital distribution was a pipe-dream during the time LOD was released and everyone had expectations for what an 'expansion pack' would entail.

As for the time-frame, considering again the changes in business plans over the years, even companies like Blizzard need to keep up with them and I'm almost expecting that they've followed suit and changed "expansion" to the DLC nomenclature like pretty much everyone else out there.

News Comments > Stephen Merchant Not Eager to Reprise Portal 2 Experience
10. Re: Stephen Merchant Not Eager to Reprise Portal 2 Experience Aug 30, 2011, 22:22 DarkCntry

Being a voice actor isn't all that easy in the grand scheme of things. Is it easier than a manual labor job? Or a high-stress environment? Hell yes, but that doesn't change that it can be a physically draining experience.

Generally speaking, voice acting is a far more tiring profession simply due to the fact that it's controlling a part of your body that, for all intents and purposes, is a fairly weak muscle. Voicing can also be physically tiring when you have to vary the sounds that come out, for example, how Merchant explains the shouting aspects. You shout for hours on end and if you're lucky what you'll get out of it is only a sore throat.

I bought HoN when it came out, but quit due to the assholes. Is LoL any better? Are there co-op vs. AI? Seems like people doing that wouldn't be pricks quite as often.

The community isn't much different 'as a whole', but seeing as LoL's entry barrier is non-existent being free, there's just far more people there...so you have a hit and miss opportunity.

Most of the people I've played with aren't that bad, but yea, there are bad apples.

And yes, there is a 5v5 versus bots...but again, that doesn't always stop the asshats.

JohnBirshire wrote on Jul 1, 2011, 15:27:
Free to Play is the biggest sham being pulled over the eyes of the MMO player nowadays. To access all of the content you had as a paying subscriber you will end up paying MORE than you did as a subscriber.

"Free to play" should be renamed "Pay more for what you've always had, in order to support people that never would have paid to begin with to demo the game for free".
You're confusing yourself...

Before most high-tier MMOs went to the F2P route you had to subscribe to play, now you can play for free, that doesn't mean you can play the entire game for free.

See, what most people fail to realize is that you purchased a license to access the servers for most MMOs with subscription fees. After that subscription lapsed you lost access to playing the game. In the case of Turbine games, and a couple other F2Ps, you can now play the game for free but you only have a small section of the entire game.

In Turbine's case, you have base Eriador (Bree, Ered Luin, Shire) and the Epic Questline (which basically moves you through the entire game). What you don't have are regional quests unless you purchase the quest packs for them, or the content found in expansions.

So the claim of paying more is unfounded. As a subscriber you paid monthly (generally $10-15 worth) to play the content under a license. As a F2P player, you have the option of piecemeal purchasing the content you need when you need it, and only for the amount you need. Generally this pops out to be less than the subscribers pay overall.

Sure it's valid. The methodology they are using is to determine how many "fake" copies have been sold, multiply that number by the actual cost of the legit software, and use that number as "cost". What that does, however, is make the incorrect assumption that if the fake copies were unavailable people would have bought legit copies. Certainly true in a percentage of cases, but how high - or low - that percentage is is open to debate. It's just not 100%.

But you're missing the very important point...

People are *buying* these pirated copies...that is a lost sale because people obviously are desiring said product and are purchasing pirated instead of legal product.
