News Comments > RIFT Beta Resumes This Week
7. Re: RIFT Beta Resumes This Week Jan 3, 2011, 20:13 Nate

My first time with Rift was beta 3 too. I greatly enjoyed it. Because I'd been reading about it for a while, wasn't expecting anything too innovative in the gameplay.

Why did I enjoy it? The soul system is kinda neat. The rifts and zone events were a blast.

I'm guessing that the traditional MMO combat they have, allows for the extra large battles I experienced. It did get funky when everyone was clustered in one graveyard too kill the boss to end the zone event. However, you could still play.

From the DICE presentation, "Frostbite 2.0 Target platforms PS3, Xbox 360 and DirectX 10/11".

Seems to me that if your supporting Xbox 360, then they could have easily supported DirectX 9. However, its probably a good move to drop DirectX 9 support to force people to upgrade.

They're pulling an "IE bundled with Windows 98".

Only it's going to be (possibly renamed) GFWL with Windows 8. Your default choice for digitally distributed console and PC games.

This is not a funny idea.

I must be the only poor soul in the whole world who thought the gameplay in diablo 1 and diablo 2 was extremely simplistic and boring: It consisted of holding down left click to spam attacks. Then when your health or mana got low, pressing a button on your keyboard for quick health regen or mana regen. Then you would do the same thing for hours until the end of the game. The greatest strategy was to force enemies through a doorway one at a time so they couldn't surround you easily.

Anything blizzard can do with diablo 3 to add more to the gameplay would be appreciated for people like me who want slightly more sophisticated gameplay.

The Diablo games are built around the action, character build-up and loot collection. If you look at the Diablo 3 gameplay videos, its still simplistic action killing numerous mobs.

The only non-simplistic gameplay might be the boss battles.

The last big patch improved the AI a little but not enough. It seems tactically braindead.

The large land areas, hundred player battles and the fun vehicles. Please don't screw this up SOE.

I've not downloaded the patch yet either. Will be checking out the updated Civ V first. However, the Elemental AI is supposedly not horrible anymore. See the patch notes. Wardell implemented a multi-threaded AI.

I've not played with this patch, but the AI is apparently still horrible. It's understandable since they change so many of the game mechanics that the AI had to be reworked, but it sucks because the game is still boring - it's mostly a sandbox with little competition.

Win 100 games? Doubt I could come up with 50 games I'd want. Most people would probably only ever install a few of the 100.

I've just played too much TF2, 562 hours. It lost my interest. Perhaps for many of you its really not the unlockables they added but burnout.

Pfft, last game I bought in a store was more than a year ago. Steam or Impulse prices are close enough for launch day pricing.

Bought this game and then never played very far into the start.

Love 4x games but the UI on this one was a pain and the gameplay turned into work.

Having played Global Agenda, I'm not holding out high hopes for this Tribes remake. The poor game design choices made in GA aren't a good sign.

In my games I haven't had bizarre AI behavior. Its just been stupendously bad at tatically using its units. It also doesn't handle oceans.

Otherwise the AI grows its Civs quite well but does tend to spam cities. Part of the problem seems to be that certain of the AI personalities aren't as good as some of the others.
