News Comments > Team Fortress 2 Perks for Left 4 Dead 2 Purchases

I like TF2 but I never play a Medic which was my favorite class in TFC. I loved to conc jump to the enemy snipers and infect them all.

With TF2 it's almost exclusively Spy for me now.

Enjoy both games but TF2 is much better balanced. The only reason I don't play it more often is that it's a chore to get on and find a server that actually has players when it says it has players. Also the servers half full of bots are annoying.

News Comments > Civilization V Patched
27. Re: Civilization V Patched Sep 28, 2010, 12:25 Brubold

I'm enjoying the game so far. I've won a Space Race victory but that was on Chieftain. I've got several Prince level games in progress as I'm trying out different Civs to see how they play.

The worst thing I've found and others have confirmed is that computer Civs don't seem to ever explore beyond their own starting continent. This means that if you conquer your own continent you can basically sit back free of worry and try for one of the other victory types.

Other than that I am really liking the game. It's buggy but hopefully this patch will start to address those issues. I seem to be in the minority in that I actually like City-States. I like to let them get captured and then liberate them so they are Allies for the rest of the game with very little upkeep required.

Lol at page 179 about Germany and calling Otto Von Bismarck "perhaps the most significant figure in Germany history" - I cant think of any other well know German leaders either!

Hehe, yep. That was my first thought when I read it too.

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to new combat system with one unit per tile. It should involve a lot more strategy. Also culture bombs sound interesting. That's using a Great Artist to take over a chunk of land through culture even if the land belongs to someone else.

And just like I did for the second one, I'll wait till it's in the bargain bin. For that money it was worth it.

Saw this and got my hopes up for a nice diversion. Came in and saw SOE and was like..."nope".

There's a reason they don't have one modern MMO success to their name.

The only game that has bucked the trend (to my knowledge) is LOTRO, which I believe is a pretty successful game, but still went F2P. All the other MMOs that go free to play are those which are hemorrhaging players.

Actually Turbine's DDO has gone from almost no players to 3rd most played in the USA due to their switch to F2P. So it can be a sound business move and I'm sure that's why they are going that way with LOTRO as well.

3. Re: FFXIV Online Beta Jun 25, 2010, 08:45 Brubold

It's too bad this will likely be yet another Asian style grind fest. The FFXI actually had some really nice features but the grind killed it for me both times I tried it around the mid-20s or so when solo content went out the window. I like to group but I don't always like to group.

Oh well. It's not as if there are people out there who don't have all the weapons by now. A little late if you ask me, but I guess it's nice for newcomers, and those who bother with that crafting bullshit.

I don't have all of the weapons. I quit playing after the sniper update because I was waiting for the achievement whores to calm down and just never got back into the game.

I play on a fairly regular basis and still haven't gotten the friggin sword for the Demo to drop. Plus I've never had a hat drop ever. The only one I have is the halo they gave out.

@Silicon Avatar

Yeah that's the worst finale in either game and should be scrapped or changed dramatically. I've heard rumors that they are changing it so the survivors can't go into the stands at all which wouldn't make much sense but should help.

Plus they apparently ignored the Charger's pathetic joke of a hit box. I guess we get to keep charging right through people.

I was going to hold out longer for a price drop but the 25% sale was enough for me to bite the bullet. Enjoying it so far. The difficulty seems to have been ramped up higher than the original.

So what's the state of the game at this point? Is it still as empty and lifeless as it was in beta? Have they added any instanced content at the lower levels? How many players are left?

Waiting on this one until the price comes down. I got the first one and got burned by Valve's lack of support for it that was supposed to be better than TF2.

2. Re: More L4D DLC Planned Sep 11, 2009, 11:21 Brubold

I'd say L4D is an exception to the rule where Valve's updating/patching is concerned. They didn't seem to be giving it any priority until the announcement of L4D2 and the resulting furor by people that felt ripped off.

When you compare L4D's patching and DLC schedule to other Valve games like TF2 it's not even close.

I'm sure I'll by L4D2 but I might wait a bit on it until the price drops or until more DLC is available.

For those who may be upset over this, they just did you a HUGE favor. Now you can't waste all that money.

/beta tester
/will not purchase this game for at least a year and then only if it's been significantly improved

They are using every little gimmick they can to get people to buy the game before they've had a chance to see it. Not a good sign.

@Surf

I've been saying for years that all they'd have to do to make a ton of money for very little work is update the X-wing/Tie Fighter series with new graphics. It could be the exact same story with the exact same missions and no one would care.

Unless this announcement involves X-Wing/Tie Fighter, I'm not interested. TOR is already being worked on and I'll wait for that.

News Comments > Warhammer Online Free Expansion
10. Re: Warhammer Online Free Expansion Jan 29, 2009, 18:07 Brubold

@Despoiler,

What Mythic is adding in this patch doesn't even come close to justifying the word "expansion". I played the game in beta and at release and enjoyed it for a while.

However LOTRO has been adding huge content with their "chapter" updates and never called them an expansion. When they actually came out with a a real expansion it was pretty massive in content (Moria, new classes, etc).

The "free expansion" term is what people are having issues with and it's justified given that this is stuff that should have been in at release.

I do think it's cool that Slayers are in and Hammerers are out. I might actually come back long enough to play around with one.
