The proper response here would have been to either roll the patch back or take FEZ off the XBLA. Microsoft shares some greed culpability here too, but so does the designer. He'll gladly take your money for a product he knows is broken (along with MS to be fair) and tell you "You're fucked motherfucker."

It's right along the edge of fraud really.

according to Microsoft they offered special terms to Fish re the patching as it was billed in a arcade promotion, no-one knows the details, but they released a press statement that basically said "we've tried to fix this, offered special terms - they still declined to resolve the situation".

Fish knew EXACTLY what the terms of being on XBLA are when he signed the deal, its not like it was a surprise to him - Microsoft marketed the game (xbox market place was full of adverts for it); then (allegedly) offered special terms to fix the situation and Fish still fucked over each and everyone of his customers on the platform that made him.

As for Phil Fish and Fez, I'm torn because I like good games but it's hard to knowingly support such a tremendous douchebag who has basically spit on my favorite platform. On the flipside I guess most companies have a few of them so *shrug*

If it helps Verno, he spat on his release platform as well;

"hi the game has a massive save deleting crippling bug; we aren't patching it though because Microsoft charge for patches, something i of course knew before i released [something ive know since i got in bed with them]. enjoy the game."

he does not deserve to be supported, the guys a prick.

Do I sense the presence of Derek Smart in the building?

No Fez is a excellent game [unlike anything smart ever made], the game designer is just worth of a shoe to the arse.

personally i dont think it would have mattered if star-dock of GB would have got it, each seems likely to give us shit out the other-end; its a shame the kick starter that actually cared about it didn't get it, at least it would have been an opportunity for a start up dev crew to get a foot on the ladder.

Lets face it at this point the IPs been dead for 10 years, i can see this turning out like the AoE2 HD remake; IE terrible

I know some people have a problem with Brad, but Stardock is exactly the kind of developer we should be supporting:

  • They self publish

  • They do strategy games (less common these days)

  • They're not a huge conglomerate

  • They have shown an ability to learn from their mistakes

  • They're hiring some top notch talent.

  • They don't burden their games with onerous DRM

  • You can play their games offline

  • They also think its cool to call every person who bought a utterly none-functioning multiplayer game Toxic. screw stardock and the horse they rode in on (shame i rather like ironclad games).

That's called Path of Exile. It has excellent mechanics overall. It's just not as polished as D3.

Its a great game - the fighting's jarringly slow :-( the rest of the mechanics are great however.

Also... MK9 is one of the most used Fighting Games currently in competition. So it may not be in his top 25, but it is certainly in other peoples top 25. Since it came out it has mostly overshadowed the competitive play of SF4 and Tekken at EVO. It's definitely worthy of a Game of the Year edition regardless of this guys opinion.

Is it worthy of a GOTY? well yes, even for casual fighting game fans; the story mode is just good fun. Utter good fun. Its also packed with features; 2v2 team fights, ladder fights, and the challenges etc.

As for the evo comments, not accurate if you ask me; But it has been taken seriously (and that's pretty much a first for a MK game in recent years) so it is good that they put effort in to the actual mechanics (beyond fun) this time around for more serious players.

The online is still a bit of a lagging mess, but its a lot of fu n once you get around the issues. I tend to buy all fighters on the x360 when they come out, and then on the PC when they get them because ill be able to "keep" them for longer past hardware generations.

Most fighting game ports thus far have been good (capcom), lets hope WB/NR do a good job with this one, can only be a good thing.

Don't get me wrong this is obviously a mess and a serious embarrassment, but I thought maybe that was THEIR point anyway with the dad's PC comment.

But then why wouldn't you just lower the graphical fidelity? Like every other game has been capable of doing since really the beginning of time. Why limit it on the one thing that every player and every single preview has been hammering them about?

It seems to me like they were hoping to squeeze by with just a few servers.

    Creston

the games a utter mess, but you are way off line man. Its nothing to do with graphics, why to people always assume horsepower is about polygons? its about the simulation its doing; and its not cheating like it used to. simple.

His AO dev update was a bit worrying, might have well said "i dont know what the hell i am doing, and i am likely to make changes you wont like".

AO needs a GD who understand it, and funcom need to be whipped badly. Not sure i will ever forgive them. really not sure why i have given them this much money over the last 10 years.

It's closer to MNC than dota/lol imo, just because of how its played. Faster paced than a lol or a dota, and somewhat dumbed down. ill be sticking to the traditional format personally; but good luck to them.

I like it, the combats frankly a little stagnent like has been said, and i REALLY dont think the skill tree consitutes good design. I still think if you like action RPGs you will enjoy it and as is mentioned below the devs are at least supporting some good old school features that should keep old school arpg players happy.

Its REALLY unexciting early on, (least compared to say TL2), but it is a good game.

Exactly. Its not as good as D2, which is exactly why I and most nearly everyone else who spent any ammount of time with D2 is calling it trash.

TL2 has a cartoony look I dont like. I might try PoE once it is finished but what really irks me is that they fucked up the Diablo IP beyond all repair. I sure as hell am not going to buy Diablo4 at launch. Are you?

by the time its out mate ill probably be dead ;-) its not like blizzard dev things quickly

ill buy the expansion if that answers your question; personally i still play not regular, but prolly once a week, mainly hardcore only seen as that was the best way to play d2, and its the best way to play d3 I sometimes grind inferno on my 60 for laughs with a mate, it can be fun if you turn up the MP levels (and gets it back to challenging levels that we had pre all the pubbie tools bitching it was to hard)..

I could go on, but really is there a point? D3 is simply inferior to D2 in every way and for a game that sold so many units on HYPE alone that is unacceptable.

you dont understand, at all. My point is no matter how much of a point you have that doesnt make it "trash" or "the worst game ever", or any of the other acustations that are leveled at the game. It just means its not as good as D2.

Thats it; thats all i am trying to point out.

    BTW i agree with ... points, 4 5 and 6.

point1 is just vague, point2 has 3 incorrect statements, and one correct statement. point3 was true at launch; less so now (look @ the hardcore AH if you would like a better view of lower level gear).

etc, see we could argue this to kingdom come, but you are totally unable to talk about the game in a reasonable manner without being sensationalist.

Anyhow; if you really like ARPGs and D3 isnt your thing you should checkout PoE (i might have a invite left not sure, will check tonight), or TL2. TL2 is awsome, PoE is feature rich, but mechanically a bit of a mess.
