Looking forward to Mafia 2 and Red Dead Redemption (yes, I love open world/sandbox games).

Yes, it is all about advertisements.

R6: Lockdown was an absolutely horrible game to begin with and it was RIDDLED with advertisements. They had advertisements in the strangest locations. Everywhere you turned it was adverts.

Surprised nobody mentioned the other bonus...you only can play the game for 1 year online because EA will shut the server down after that.

SH3 was filled with bugs and SH4 was a slightly more dumbed down version also filled with bugs. Hey, what do you expect from UBIsoft?

Every single release they tossed around the phrase "dynamic campaign". Translation: slightly random missions.

You think game quality has gone down the tubes now? Wait till they unionize.

Don't you love Conservative parrots that simply spout the talking points from the "Rich White Guy Conservative" brochure? What will you post next? Something from the NRA brochure about how kids should all be packing handguns?

Yes, some unions become fat and corrupt like any organization of people. However I have seen the benefits of having a union protect you from the greedy producers that would prefer that you get paid peanuts while working you like dogs.

Pretty well known that the gaming industry is a sweat factory in terms of unpayed overtime. A friend of mine started as a 3D artist but left the gaming industry because of this.

Looks like all they did was mod Swat 4 a little. Good thing it was canceled.

News Comments > Irrational Games Name Revived
27. Re: Irrational Games Name Revived Jan 9, 2010, 13:29 Donkey_Punch

IG ruined Swat 4. Swat 3 was a fairly realistic police sim and was loved by people who wanted a tactical shooter. Swat 4 was watered down to appeal to the CounterStrike masses. It looked like Vivendi would call on IG when they wanted a software developer to attempt to make a franchise more mainstream and thus make more money. IG seemed all too willing to take the contract. Unfortunately all they did was kill two much loved franchises.

IG didn't care about the existing fan base and they didn't even bother to research what Swat 3 was about (the lead developer admitted that he never even tried Swat 3). How can they make a sequel without even bothering to try the earlier versions? IG was simply arrogant and lazy.

An example of how silly Swat 4 became was the "magical doors". In Swat 4 whenever you opened a door it ALWAYS opens away from you...no matter what side of the door you stood on. Magical door hinges. At first this may seem like not that big of a deal but you must understand a big part of Swat is how you enter a room. Having magical doors strips away the realism from the game and kills a lot of the strategic/tactical planning that is a massive part of Swat. They turned the game into a brainless shooter.

Irrational Games also destroyed the Swat series. Swat 4 was a watered down piece of poo compared to Swat 3. Visually it was fairly nice but it was a dumbed-down empty shell.

23. Re: Why Shooters Need Dedicated Servers Jan 5, 2010, 18:32 Donkey_Punch

Don't worry, if the trend continues that EA started you only have 1 year to play the game before the servers are taken down anyways.

This may be a new trend we are seeing. Perhaps the industry will all shift this way. Server support for only a year.

You can give thanks to idiots like Caveman. This guy has to work for EA because no real gamer would support this sort of corporate nonsense.

48. Re: StarCraft II "Mini-Campaign" Jan 3, 2010, 12:09 Donkey_Punch

So let me get this straight. All the animations, graphics, sounds, and most of the coding of the game is done with the first release. However to milk money from all the hardcore fans they will charge them full price for what amounts to campaign scripts?

Sure, let the suckers pay

Drayth you were wrong about many things including that Arma 1 is a stable product. Over 3 years later and the game still crashes and is filled with bugs. The BIS forums reflect the complaints but most people have given up on Arma 1 just like BIS has.
