Wait for 6 months until the game is $20 and has gone free to play.

On second thought, this game looks dumb anyway. Why bother.

I can see where you're coming from, but the poorest sector of the population is the most likely to be obese. They're already on Medicaid/Medicare. The system's already paying their costs. Educating these folks is cheaper than treating them later. It's also why NYC sponsors fresh fruit carts in poor neighborhoods like Harlem, where I live.

Actually, it's funny, two blocks away from my building there's a greasy dog/burger cart and a fresh fruit cart. Always a line at the former, never a soul at the latter. You can't even give the fruit away. And even the kids from the area that go to good schools and have fantastic grades still eat bad. They're educated in every other way but the diet is the last to sink in.

Here's a simple truth that a couple of you are missing: THESE PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO BE EDUCATED. They just don't care. You could lecture them for an hour about HFCS and sugar and fruit, and then let them choose between 1/2 pound of deep fried Oreos and an apple and guess what they would choose? Sure, they don't want to be obese, but they also don't want to have to work at all to not be obese.

Fitness is 2/3 healthy eating, 1/3 exercise. It's nearly impossible to prevent obesity on exercise alone, unless you do something like Matt Inman, but much less than 1% of the population have the ability/inclination to do that. It's a 2.5 mile run or 5 mile walk to burn off a single candy bar.

We need to change our culture at a fundamental level, and no, you'll never change everyone, but you can have an impact on millions of people and reduce the overall percentages of obesity/over weight people, saving $billions in health / lost work /early death costs.

- Recently there's been a trend to reduce/eliminate PE and nutrition classes in school in favor of "hard" academics. We need to reverse this trend.

- The food industry spends $10b on advertising per year (and NOT on broccoli & carrots). We could place restrictions on unhealthy food advertising similar to those on alcohol and tobacco.

- Taxes on completely unnecessary "foods" like soda and chips. Make the cost of the foods reflect their costs to society.

- A well-funded campaign promoting healthy eating / exercise. Anti-smoking and drunk driving campaigns have had a demonstrable effect in the past. And we need some serious money to counter $10b in advertisting.

noble ideas but in the end useless i think. there's no lack of knowledge on what's healthy and what's not. i think it really just boils down to personal responsibility like agent said. it's not like it's a big secret that broccoli and carrots are healthy for you, or that junk food is bad. but it is mystifying why some people can't figure out why they're fat when they do nothing but eat all day.

Right, it's not like anybody born after 1970 doesn't know smoking is bad for their health. And yet, we have millions of smokers under 40. I knew it was bad for me when I smoked. I started at 17, like a dumbass, and I had been bombarded with messages from the TV to school to books that smoking was bad. You cannot legislate free will.

Personally, I don't think we should do anymore than we already do to educate people about healthy eating. You get a good dose of that in school and on early education programs. We just need to make people who are too lazy to do anything about it pay more in medical costs.

Obesity Death Toll Heavier Than Previously Thought.

Wow, a three fold increase? That's a lot. I always thought that obesity-related deaths were too low, but three times too low? That's depressing. We need a better approach to handling this. There's a whole bunch we can be doing to encourage people to eat better and exercise more.

Poverty is the major factor involved in this. So that won't be changing in the US anytime soon, and will likely get worse.

So you're saying people are too LAZY to go outside and run around for a while every day? Okay... Rolleyes

I fixed that for you. Eating right and exercising is not a poor people problem. There are a whole bunch of politicians that would like you to think so, but the reality is that as our jobs and hobbies become more and more sedentary, we get fatter and fatter.

People are lazy, and it's far easier to assume the gubment has approved all the food you wants to stuff yo face wit so it be safe and why do I needs to exercise?

My wife gets fatter every year because she refuses to get off her ass and work out. We eat the same food, but she eats a lot more of it. It's a pretty damn simple problem that people want to make complex to feel better about their own fat, lazy asses. It's the same reason everyone seems to have a "thyroid condition" now. Hey, fatty, that pie hole you keep jamming with food is not called a thyroid.

I had an employee who could not figure out why her little girl was so overweight. 1 - You are massively overweight. You are supposed to be her role model. 2 - The kid is CONSTANTLY eating. 3 - She does nothing but watch TV. I can't figure it out either.

EDIT: Yes, I do realize that some people have legitimate medical conditions that result in them being overweight. I also realize that the number of people who really have those conditions is far smaller than the number who claim to have those conditions.

Yeah, and most everyone of those sales translated into 3-6 months of gameplay I suspect and very little else. They're just way too slow getting new content into this game. Any MMO not coming with something like the Foundry now is just stupid. Have to keep that content coming all the time regularly.
You know they release new content updates every two weeks? Granted, there's a smallish amount of content in each update, but it's still a remarkable pace. It suits their business model too, because they need people to keep logging in regularly since they don't have subscription fees to lock people in.

New quests with existing, or minimal new content, isn't new. New lands, quests, et al. to explore and do for the first time? That's new. I love what they did with GW2 - albeit the combat was too oversimplified and lack of a trinity is boring - but you go through it all once, maybe twice, and what else is there to hold you there unless it's some social guild thing?

I've been trying to get through most of the jumping puzzles, get 100% world completion, and keep up with the new content. I also have only done 3 dungeons, so I have to do those too.

Keep in mind that while I love MMOs, I don't devour the content as fast as people who only play MMOs. I am also playing a lot of the new games as they release, and I still play the shit out of BF3. So to me, it almost seems like the content comes too fast at times.

Sorry, but, being a "lifer" at playing video games is not an appropriate lifestyle to have. I'm sorry you're a hardcore that spends all your life in your cave playing games, and therefore you get bored quicker than the rest of the normal people; but that's not our problem your lifestyle is like that.

The first "M" in "MMO" stands for "Massive". With "massive" games, requires massive time to play/enjoy entirety of it. If you spent all that massive time in your cave already, then that's your problem. Don't bitch at the developers because you have an addiction that you can't moderate.

And another troll joins the ranks on the ignore list.

I thought everyone had already ignored him.

Apparently they didnt "triangulating against multiple data sources" very hard...

Of course, since WoW launched Nov 23, 2004, it is quite possible that GW2 did beat WoW sales in the first 9 months. If it hit 4 million in Q3 it could have hit 4 million after the 9 month mark.

Do I believe GW2 outsold WoW in the first 9 months? Yes. Why? Because after the first 4 months of WoW it became impossible to find the game for a while. They sold so fast they ran out of inventory. GW2 has never run out of inventory, so it's entirely possible it did sell more.

Actually I do remember ArenaNet stopping sales of GW2 on their official site for a month or so due to how fully-packed all the servers were.

They did stop selling it online, but it was still available in stores.

Blah blah blah. Grow some thicker skin people. The world contains more thoughtless assholes than respectful people and you will deal with hateful, idiotic commentary wherever you wind up. I have worked in a bunch of different industries, and I have been in the public eye and on stage. The more exposed you are to the public, the more shit you will take. A previous poster was right, if you don't like it, go work for some anonymous software developer. Most people will type shit online that they would never say to your face, although there is an even more douchey class of person that will say dumb shit to your face. What are they going to do about it, arrest everyone on the planet for being an asshole?

Is it right? No, but that doesn't mean that it will stop. It's not right for governments to lie, cheat, murder, and steal, but they do it every day.

I think having certain sounds coming from the controller would be interesting.. but it would have to route through the speakers instead when using headphones.

Why? Crappy little speaker vs. your 5.1 directional sound system speakers?

Yeah, has nobody ever used the Wii? The sounds from the controller are fair-grounds tinny and distorted. It's distracting rather than immersive.

The best thing they could do is allow motion to help you aim in shooting games. Uncharted Golden Abyss does this on the Vita and it's the most accurate I have ever been in a console game. You use the sticks for major movement and then tilt the Vita for small, accurate aiming. It's awesome, and it's probably the closest you can come to the speed you see from M/K controls.
