It allows states to collect taxes from Internet retailers out of state, when made by people in their state.

How much government services is someone using by buying off Amazon, out of state? Not much. The UPS truck needs a road, I guess. But UPS pay for that with their taxes since the UPS truck uses the road, not the customer. The customer isn't using much, if any, government services that I can think of at the moment.

A brick & mortar storefront needs water/sewer, police, fire, etc etc.. I guess this has all been debated many times already.

IIRC the p60/66's were underwhelming but the p90's were a different story. I was lucky enough to play with the latter from a mortgage company client that I somehow convinced to cough up the $3000+ for one with a whopping 1GB SCSI HDD (1994). Computer Shopper to the rescue.

It's a start. Thanks Bethesda. That said, it looks to me like only the first two or three are significant fixes. The rest look like simple quest-type fixes, but I can't be sure what was done or how much work was put into this patch. By Bethesda's standards this is a big patch but by industry standards it isn't.

Good article. Yes, 'feel good' ideals that comprises the populist environmental movement is narcissistic in that it's frequently about appearance and lacking substance. We need cleaner technologies to replace the dirty ones.

I was shocked to see this in Steam news. Awesome they did this patch! Great way to bolster your rep by supporting previously abandoned software. Bethesda take note.

I respect nV's call on this and I think they're right. They could make more money doing a lot of other things. Seems to me like AMD almost had no choice, stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Laws are not needed to allow things. The constitution (you remember, that ratty old piece of paper that the nation is supposedly built upon) says:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

In other words, if it is not disallowed, it is legal.

In other /other/ words, the government doesn't - and shouldn't - "allow" us to unlock our cellphones. Instead, they should strike the law that made it illegal in the first place.

But I thought good intentions overrode the Constitution!!! If new broad federal powers sound wonderful on the evening news then it must be justified! Surely powers are never abused or have unintended consequences and since they love us so dearly, everything is legal for the feds. /sarc

2. State lawmaker defends bike tax, says bicycling is not good for the environment. Mar 5, 2013, 10:00 LittleMe

The human body is extremely efficient so it's a no-brainer that cycling is cleaner than a comparatively primitive car.

If lawmakers stopped zoning suburban sprawl then we wouldn't need to commute so far. I say heavily tax the lawmakers for being filthy dirty on the environment.

Hmmm... But public freedoms to do aerial photography can be a check on government abuses & powers. Live free or die, NH? Why ban the public from this when the real intent is to stop government drones when this bill does nothing to stop it?

Most protests against drones are not against hobbyists, Google Maps satellites, commercial flights, the film industry, or aerial photographers, rather against the government’s use of the devices.

hmmm. That stuff would be nice, but what's needed is not individual, but corporate corruption.

getting one person in trouble achieves nothing, exposing the activity of a corporation however, makes shit happen.

Yeah. Even more important is exposing the activity of the banking cartel (fed reserve), not just BoA. This may or may not be a good step in that direction.

I thought the outdoor screenshots looked weak, graphically. The pub looks great with so many unique NPC's. The more sandboxy they make the game, the better, imo. I mean, I still want a quest line progression of course. I thought Skyrim nailed that balance. And I'm fine with CDP:R competing directly with Bethesda. Their post launch support blows Bethesda out of the water. It's just that their games I don't enjoy as much, so far. But that could easily change. They keep improving by leaps and bounds.

Wow, those assholes at Cisco must be laughing all the way to the bank.

And what about the assholes at the federal and state governments who made it all happen? This is the sort of idiocy that happens when politics dictates the deployment of Internet service. Yet time and time again I see well intended people online insisting the feds take over the Internet. What a nightmare that would be.

Now we see a small glimpse of the lunacy that was President Obama's initial stimulus package in 2009. It wasn't actual, real, stimulus.

Yeah I agree with both of you. But the conversation digressed.

Crawford herself acknowledges this, arguing "America needs more people who can calmly and rationally oppose the free-marketeer rhetoric."

What a loaded statement. And it shows a disconnect between her thinking and reality. The reality is that we don't have a free market when it comes to Internet access. Also she loads the statement by using the word 'marketeer' which insidiously implies overly exploitative intent. The opposite is true. We've been overly exploited by the Duopoly. If we had choice, we could more often choose the least exploitative provider.

Crawford's sweeping indictment of big business is unlikely to find a sympathetic ear among conservatives or libertarians.

The article writer Timothy B. Lee is rather wrong here. Libertarians do not want or support government-backed big business.

Rather than advocating a focus on constraining the power of broadband duopolists, she calls for a broad increase in government involvement in the communications industry. That approach didn't work very well the last time we tried it in the mid-20th Century. And it would likely work even worse today.

Well said! She's an opportunist looking to 'create jobs' regulating things when it wouldn't work and would cost a lot of money. I wonder what her conflicts of interests are in advocating further federal regulatory powers over the Internet when she herself was an adviser to Obama. Hmmmm. Let me guess... She wants an appointed job and to be the center of attention at dinner parties??

They'll probably make a killing, there aren't a ton of decent ARPGs on the consoles. I've long held the opinion that console consumers in general are less demanding and discerning than PC consumers. More likely to blindly buy products and less likely to be tuned into problems about them.

Yeah they'll make a lot of money on the consoles, I think. IMO, console gamers are more demanding in many ways. I doubt they'd put up with ARMA 2, or lots of other high maintenance games that we do. They also want expensive presentation. They want things simple and straightforward, and that can be expensive to produce. But I'm no developer so.... But yes, they're less discerning it seems.
