I'll try it. I've noticed a lot of the Steam user reviews aren't really reviews just a few vague sentences of how great it supposedly is.

But isn't that capitalism at its core?

Simplify much? It's more the result of modern technology and people divulging their personal information. If this were a totalitarian regime it would be the government collecting all this information for their own use. Oh wait.. That's happening too.

So while you cleverly use it as a bash against so-called capitalism, it's something else. It's the technology that enables this and people need to be aware this will happen and they need to be responsible and diligent.

2. $5 billion Wi-Fi plan for schools and libraries. Jul 12, 2014, 13:57 LittleMe

It is paid for by the Universal Service Fund, which in turn is funded by US residents through surcharges on phone bills.

Oh yeah that tax that's been corrupt and wasteful in years past. It's feel-good spending and I'd bet it will be very wasteful while lining the pockets of cronies. Remember the feds recently buying $20,000 routers for library's when a small store-bought router would have worked for a tiny fraction of the cost? Now the FCC is going to give it a shot.

I agree, it looks amazing. I just hate the gaminess of it, all the stuff I mentioned yesterday, all those console compromises, all those simplifications. They detract from reality, and it breaks the immersion. I can't believe I'm in this world when everything has tool tips, when damage displays in numbers on people, and when I'm in 3rd person view.

It's a videogame. "Gaminess" isn't really a criticism when you're talking about videogames.

Well I think some taking into context for his questionable but convenient choice of the word - 'gaminess' is due here. I interpret that word to mean several things:

* arcadey style graphics
* overly animated
* repeating combat sounds that might sound good at first, wear on the ears after hours of gameplay
* Form over function gameplay where superficial flair is emphasized and substantive game mechanics may be minimized or absent
* NPC dialog appears to be targeted to the younger console crowd
* Clunky UI interface wholly designed around gamepad where a mouse would be far better
* Cliche' story about being the savior without really connecting us to a believable story line

Personally I don't feel these qualities kill the game, necessarily. Also it's a little too early to be sure if/what depth the game offers. Is it a 25 cent glazed doughnut or is it a fine pastry? I don't know yet.

I'm sure that's what a lot of people want: a game that isn't trying hard to be a simple game experience but something more. We want a dynamic, more interactive experience that requires more than button mashing arcadey bullshit where all we have to do is keep pressing the same button over and over to win.

Did I just need to explain that?

While the concept of net neutrality seems complex, the solution is simple: We should classify broadband access as a utility.

And that will solve all our problems! Not!

The actual solution is more competition. The article even admits the big telcos have thwarted competition.

Yeah I wouldn't call their long-scheduled end of support as an abuse of market position. Watch them extend it for at least another year (or more). There's a lot of competition in the OS market right now. MS can't afford to alienate their customers right now. If they do, they risk losing what's left of any substantial market position they have left.

IMO competition is working now in this sector. Okay it's not ideal competition but I don't consider MS to have a monopoly in the computing devices OS market. No need to worry.

This. I wasn't too impressed. I liked that they took some ideas from Skyrim (obvious) but yeah, it certainly came across as a console action game to me more than a RPG. They just showed the window dressings here, not the depth that a good RPG needs. I noticed pop-in too. Also the attacks looked like awesome-button revisited.

Here is an example of a PC exclusive that will never be on a console. It has choices and consequences, too: Dwarves or zombies. UBI may try to buy them but...

Consoles are a much better value then getting a pc. You might be able to build a 500 dollar pc with comparable specs as a ps4 but no way you are playing even console ports 5 years from now on that same pc with a decent framerate.

Sure you'll be able to. Just lower the graphic settings. PC games have the option of higher graphic settings. They're not mandatory.

A 500 dollar gaming PC has a huge and vast collection of games and other software to run, many of them exclusives. A PS4 doesn't. Your thinking is backwards. A console isn't a better value than a gaming PC. It's a convenience at the cost of flexibility and freedom.

Yes there are those conveniences for a console. Maybe also you're rationalizing your PS4 purchase(?) not having yet come to fruition. True not everyone knows or even wants to know that they're getting a bad value for their money, or they are speculating their console purchase will pay off in the future. I'd put people here in these forums in the latter category of course.

I see that people usually buy pricey electronics without doing much or any research. They have no idea what they're getting beyond the basic function stated on the box. Ignorance is bliss I guess. I'm not just talking consoles.

I remember years ago I needed tires for my car. I went to the shop and they tried to sell me some tires they said were 'good tires.' I realized I could be getting ripped off. I declined and went home and did some Internet research to find out they were poor quality and priced much too high. Same thing applies to consoles or PC's.. Don't get ripped off.

So it's not a elitist 'master race' thing to me. It's just that the value of it isn't there, yet. I guess I shouldn't underestimate the value of hundreds of millions of dollars in marketing to 'leverage demand to get the ball rolling.'

Sorry for off topic.

Why even buy a PS4 and not a PC where the graphics are just as good and there are vastly more games, far better game prices, etc. It's no contest. Get a PS4 if you don't know how to plug a wireless dongle into a USB port on your PC.

What made it illegal exactly? Its very existence prohibited? Banksters writing EU laws to prohibit competition with their mafia Euro currency?

The below quote applies to the rampant and systematic paranoia that we now see expressed by the authorities:

"The personality’s paranoia and mistrust of other people by focusing on other people’s failings is magnified into making others into threatening adversaries. Hence, history is full of the purges of Stalin, the paranoia of Nazi Germany, and the ravings of Gadhafi at the UN in 2009. Unfortunately, the paranoid person is actually in a hell realm which helps to justify the extreme measures they take to “protect themselves”." - Eckhart Tolle
