if we are living is such a lefty, liberal, Marxist, communist, obamination... like so much of the conservative media puts forth...

Why are these giant corporations doing whatever they want with abandon?

It's called corporatism or corporate socialism. It's not free market. The two industries you cite, healthcare and telcom/cable industries are heavily reliant on their government partners. It's socialism for the corporations or as you put it, a corporate oligarchy. It's not free market nor is it capitalism.

Yes, there's a heavy element of both right and left wing socialism. The two need each other. The warfare+welfare state is here. More regulations will just bring more of it. You can't regulate socialism away. The corporate oligarchy need the regulations to stay in power. They write the regulations.

Had they just ended the boycot and opened up trade decades ago Castro would be long gone by now. The whole affair has been beyond ridiculous. You can trade with China, Vietnam, and dozens of other countries who have actual monsters heading them, up - as well as giving aid to the likes of NK, and other tyrants - but you can't trade with Cuba?

The only reason they want to destabilize Cuba is so they can go back to the bad ol' Batista days on that island. Close source of exploitable, cheap labour, and run their criminal empires with the gubment sticking its nose in.

This.

True, but they see those five million as a good benchmark to gauge market size and interest.

But is it really? Anyone who likes MMOs basically signs up for just about every beta around, because why not? You get to try new MMO # 12345 for free and see if you like it, even if you really very little interest in it.

Most betas get millions of "interested" people, and I'm pretty sure it's just the same group of millions that like MMOs and just want to try them all out.

Well from our perspective not exactly I suppose, but remember this is corporations and marketing analysts and bean counters getting together and having a big psychopathic orgy sex party over the data.

Five Million!! Whoa! big numberz!

With 5 million people registered for beta, itís clear that a large number of fans are eager to jump online and experience everything the game has to offer play an MMO for free to see if it's any good.

Let us know how many people subscribe after their first month is over.

True, but they see those five million as a good benchmark to gauge market size and interest. It wasn't a year+ long open beta like PoE or something so IMO that's a rather good number - 5 million. Also shows that PC is still a great platform to target for MMOs.

IMO the beta, as it was done, was sort of a mistake. The bugs were off-putting. They should have had a staggered, three day free pre-launch trial for everyone, or something.

News Comments > Battlefield 4 Rubber Banding Fixes and Server Upgrades Planned
9. Re: Battlefield 4 Rubber Banding Fixes and Server Upgrades Planned Apr 2, 2014, 11:29 LittleMe

they are "unhappy with our server performance," as they promise to look into issues causing rubber-banding (players repeatedly snapping back to a previous position on the map due to Internet lag) issues in Battlefield 4,

Blue the rubber banding in this case isn't caused by 'internet lag' but instead by the server not keeping up with client position updates, thus the server performance issue DICE is trying to address. The server gets out-of-sync with the player's PC or console if, for example, the server's CPU is over utilized.

Yes people think it's Internet lag but it's not, it's often server lag. As a player, it can be hard to tell what is causing rubber banding (or lag).

Most online games, to hide Internet latency, allow the client to go ahead and move even if the server doesn't process the movement information due to insufficient resources. This introduces rubber banding as a possibility since the client and server can get out-of-sync. The server will then warp the player back to where it thinks he/she is. That's the rubber banding..

So where are Robs and Esses these days? I remember Esses from IRC back in '96 in the qtest days. They both had so much enthusiasm for Quake and it was highly contagious. I guess Robs often had that cool+dazed look on his face. Blue sorry you didn't get to play in the little tourney! I didn't know you were there to... um... actually play.

At the QW launch party someone mentioned you were there but at the time I didn't even know about your site. I would have wanted to say hi. You and your site here are a big influence on my life and I want to thank you for that, very much. I'm having a broment here.

After seven years, exactly one person gets off the govít no-fly list.

I'm sure the list is correct, and everyone who is on there deserves to be on there. I'm surprised that one person got taken off. Besides, they don't HAVE to fly. There are plenty of other ways to travel. For example, by foot.

That's so right! Just wait for the 'No Breathe List' we have coming!

Just curious, but why do you rate it as overpriced and average?

Well I can try to speak for the overpriced part at least. There are much better PC games for a lot less. It's priced like a console game. New PC games of late seem to be selling best on Steam in the $30-$40 range. DayZ is a good example of that.

I like reading the positive comments on the game and I want to like it but the beta didn't inspire me. I'll watch gameplay vids to see if it's better. The world felt too MMOish to me. Specifically the world felt like generic window dressings designed to run on a low-end machine. Now I understand it's expensive to create a dense and immersive world but I think that's what I want. Also the hordes of other players in the game subtracted from the experience because they were just annoying. I hope I'm wrong about the game and after several patches they've made a kick ass mmo.

It might be good news in disguise. If it were treated as a currency, the Secret Servce might effectively shut it down in this country. I don't know the specifics of their authority to do so but I know they do shut down competing currencies to the Dollar, by showing up with as many gun-toting thugs as possible.

I'm surprised these currencies aren't illegal already considering how desperate the authorities are to maintain the house of cards that are Dollars (through all sort of financial manipulation). There's hope for financial freedom.

Honestly I still don't think that that poll is anything more than a joke. I mean saying that a game company with, at worst, a capitalistic mentality is worse than banks screwing people over out of their homes, large-scale companies foregoing safety and dumping millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf, and then the multitude of other companies out there that are actually causing physical harm on people is rather stupid.

This. It's more a statement of ignorance as to where are the important issues. The socialist central banks are vastly worse.

Nice. Barely pay any taxes at all and bilk the taxpayers for several hundred thousand a year more.

Right this is Microsoft's fault, but not the fault of an ultra-paranoid police state that goes far and beyond Microsoft?

Cutter wrote on Mar 22, 2014, 17:32:
Why doesn't the gubment just say 'Comply or we revoke your corporate charter?' Oh right, for the same reason they let them get away paying virtually no tax. Silly me.

The answer is simple. They want a cooperative corporate partner in their criminal surveillance state. Since the gubment doesn't earn the money they spend, they don't care if they spend that money as long as it helps them toward their ends.
