News Comments > L4D2 Patch & Mutation Encore
5. Re: L4D2 Patch & Mutation Encore May 22, 2010, 02:53 spindoctor

The encore is also by popular vote through the L4D2 main menu. And it won because most people wanted to (re)play it, not because no one played it.

News Comments > Aion Servers to Merge, Grind to Ease
3. Re: Aion Servers to Merge, Grind to Ease May 20, 2010, 14:43 spindoctor

Actually I think initial demand for the game was too high, and I remember they had to add new servers very early on. And then, as usual, the demand died off, so they're taking them offline now.

The game had potential, but it was ruined by the gold spam and botters. And the crazy grind.

7. Re: Team Fortress 2 Pyro Changes This Week May 19, 2010, 02:22 spindoctor

The pyro has been significantly weakened by the afterburn nerf. Not sure why they did it, but it is a real problem and that is why they are doing this update and even announcing it beforehand (normally balance patches don't get their own blog entry). The people saying the pyro is fine probably just run into a bunch of enemies, set them on fire and consider it mission accomplished.

Interesting. I wasn't impressed with the single player demo. Was the full game much better? I hated the special powers, zero/no gravity, etc. in the game. I just want pure Nazi humans, but then I was OK (not crazy about them) with zombies and monsters in earlier Wolfenstein games.

The single player demo was absolutely not representative of the full game. The first 2-3 levels of the game were average, but after that it actually got good. The demo had the first level of the game, the weakest part of the game. The MP portion of the game is fucked, but the SP is a fun 9-10 hour ride and worth getting on a sale or something.

Yes, it was for publicity. So is this humble bundle.

Yes it's a proper MMO. Massive persistent world with a cops and robbers theme going for it. I think this 50 hours idea is a good one... as interesting as the game sounds on paper, it actually follows the MMO genre pretty closely. I have a feeling 50 hours will be more than enough for most people around.

Yes, which we've known for quite some time. Ever since the first article about GW2 came out in PC Gamer, about 3 years ago now I believe.

I must have missed that article . So now I'm wondering how they will manage to keep persistent world up without charging a monthly subscription. Microtransactions? Or was that explained in that article too?

Does this mean the game will not be instanced outside cities like in the first one?

All the whiners are complaining as usual. Big surprise.

I get 30fps with my rig on max settings with 4xMSAA. I get some drops to the high 20s in large areas, nothing terrible for a slow-paced game like this. Turning off AA gets me 10fps more.

30fps doesn't sound too good. I had read that this game made on a modified UE2.5, is that correct? Because surely you should be getting better than 30fps if that's the case. Why do you think the performance is not so good?

The game is basically dead. Player count increases once in a while when the game goes on sale on Steam, but then it always settles down back to 40-70 concurrent players at anytime of the day.

Kotaku is reporting that 8 have left IW in the past couple of days...

You have to wonder how much Activision will be trying to stop the ship from sinking at this point, and how it's still not working

The PC Warrior wrote on Apr 25, 2010, 23:26:

are you being an industry shill as usual?

Beam It always amuses me how badly your fragile egos are hurt when any news of MW2 selling well comes around.

Back when MW2 came out and sold a boat load of copies, everyone was hell bent on the argument that more sales doesn't make it a good game. Which is why I found it kind of ironic that someone pointed out the current sales of BC2 compared to MW2 to imply that higher position on the list of the former somehow indicates that it was better.

MW2 probably sold more copies in it's first week than BC2 has so far in total. Not that it's any sort of valid comparison on the quality of the games, but I'm sure someone will follow this post up with one where they can easily prove that high MW2 sales have nothing to do with it's quality while those of BC2 do. And since this is Bluesnews, I'm sure there will be a few insults thrown in as well

This site is nothing if not entertaining. Also, the MW2 DLC is currently outselling BC2 on Steam. Yikes

Sega? wow, what a name from the past. No consoles, hardly any noteworthy titles...exactly which platform do these guys even develop for?

They're fairly active even today. AvP and the recent Total War games have been published by them, as is the upcoming Alpha Protocol. They probably have console games as well but I wouldn't know about that.

Doesn't this essentially confirm the claim that Zampella and West made that their bonuses were not paid to them? And that they have still not been paid to the remaining IW employees? 6 months after release and Activision is not paying their employees... and then they're confused when those employees leave?

KeSPA despises the Battle.net automated tracking systems...fine - unranked offline play neatly sidesteps all of that. Makes perfect sense as offline play is infinitely more subject to exploits and other cheats.

This is a good idea. I wonder if Blizzard can implement it this late into the development process though.
