as soon as I saw it was the xbox manuel I stop'd bothering.

Sold in mexico?

Edit: Meant to add the OT part... I miss manuals... Now that I buy ~80% of my stuff on steam, I don't end up seeing a manual... Most games don't seem to have a version on there (though I did just check for Dead Island, and will skim through that in a few seconds, even though I already beat it (27.75h - not bad at all... Enjoyed most of it). So ya, in short, I would definitely like to see more manuals pre-release, as I would consider it about equivalent (sometimes better, sometimes worse) than gameplay videos...

And about damn time Dungeon Defenders has a launch date... It's been 'done' for about a year... I'm sure they added a lot of polish in that time, but wow...

Buying it mostly to support them, as the lead dev is a helpful member of the UDK community.

It has a 4 fucking GB cap, and you pay 10 bucks for every additional GB. And despite what Verizon and AT&T bleat, 4GBs is fucking NOTHING. Just by normal browsing you can easily destroy that in a month, because the large majority of web pages now have front pages with 5-10MB of content on it. And forget about ever watching a video of any kind anywhere.

A man cannot live on 2-4 HD porn scenes a month. This is entirely unacceptable!!!!!

Oh, was at out loud?

While I agree, do you really need HD on a mobile phone?

I suppose that if you velcro it to your face, it might be like watching it in the theatre, but it's going to be fuzzy because of that whole ~10cm to infinity thing : )

There are two movies called 'SPEED'. One has Sandra Bullock and the other is porn.

How can Bethesda sue for a partial name when other industries seem to be cool with it or even blatantly copying?

Does it boil down to lawyers being dicks? That makes the most sense to me...

Isn't your last line's 'logic' defeated by the previous? I would say the ratio of movie to game lawyers to be pretty significant, so if it was just that lawyers are dicks (the cop-out excuse), it wouldn't be limited to some game companies : )

Yep. Then again, if you take your boss' "oh, don't worry, I'll pay you once we get paid" bullshit at face value, you're basically running the risk of getting screwed.

Never, ever, EVER take an I.O.U., no matter WHAT industry you're in. Get PAID.

If only this were followed precisely, and everywhere...

I personally hate all those shitty indie games made by teams of people doing it because they love it, and only get paid if the game succeeds...

That was actually one thing that impressed me. His public appearances were solely for the benefit of his company; I never recall him pumping up himself on camera, showing off his home, acting entitled or anything in public, or calling attention to the charitable work he did here.

That movie, The Pirates of Silicon Valley? God, how everyone panned that out here. So much embellishment, so little fact. About the both of them.

I have a friend, and I believe it's part of the norm, that thinks 'based on facts' movies aren't full of heaping piles of bullshit...

'based on facts' means one or two bits of a 2h movie is relevant to the real situation... Not unlike newspaper/TV-News repots... : )

Yeah, I don't really feel bad. It's apparently a sign of the times to proclaim anything and everything as "THE BEST EVER!" and it's just stupid.

It's a funny ad. Perhaps even a nostalgic one. It's not the best ad ever. (or even the best videogame ad ever.)

Those that say so are still mouthbreathers. Or monkeys with bad allergies, as space captain so eloquently pointed out. I'm not really sure how that's even stereotyping, but if it makes you feel better to call it that, go for it. I'm all for self-empowerment.

Creston

This reminds me of the new iPhone tag line... 'The best iPhone yet'... Well I sure as shit hope so... If a company is going backwards with their newer models, something is very wrong...

Anyhow, on topic... People have varying and short memories... Like myself; I personally can't think of a better video game ad, but then, I haven't watched TV in like a dozen years, so knowledge on the subject may be minimal : )

We need a big push for games with extremely modest sysreqs (and that aren't pavlovs dogshit, obviously). Everyone has a laptop, everyone's laptop can play deus ex or age of empires, assuming you have a mouse too.

Back in the day everyone had a desktop, and sure, you couldn't play the latest games at the highest resolution on it, but they were at least playable iirc. The average pc used to be more powerful before 300 laptops came along.

I haven't owned a laptop/notebook in 25 years... And yes, it was heavy.. and had two awesome colours... : )

-Alamar

How quickly you forget. Most of srping and near all of summer is virtually devoid of good new titles. We gripe about it plenty.

Anyway, dig this series, but they do need to release an editor with it.

Actually, I spend my spring/summer outside doing physical, uhm, stuff... Because I have a life! Ya...

Not sure why that 'argument' came to me; likely partly due to the CNN thread. I always found it so ridiculous... Much like most name calling, all you're really doing is showing how petty (and defensive) you can be...

Zoom wrote on Oct 6, 2011, 14:10:
Got the 3 pack too when it was on sale, not disappointed with the price / gameplay hour ratio there...

I agree, in a sense, but I think a lot of people are too focused on that ratio meaning something... Let's take a genre I sometimes enjoy... RPGs. A lot of the time, RPGs have a great deal more hours (so a higher ratio) than other genre's, but often, so much of that time is spent dealing with the UI, or worse; traveling. That's not quality entertainment to me...

I guess I'm just being all philosophical today : )

Specifically for KB, I remember wasting a lot of time traveling, and worse; re-traveling. Sometimes it's just to top up my <insert uber unit>, and sometimes it's the zelda/metroid style (get an upgrade later in the game that forces you back to the first zone where you can finally bypass a wall of ice, becuase you got the burrito upgrade). Maybe in the end, I just want my in game persona to be as lazy as I am : )

no, im cool with a FPS MM RPG.. i guess... altho i suppose it would have to have party members

but i really dont think the old style of first person party based exploration is out of the question in modern times... it could easily be done with 3d models.. or it could be 3rd person party style.. ideally it would be turn based combat, or real time with pause like dragon age

the old MM games were huge and awesome.. IMO its a shame the series never went back to its roots

Part of the problem with this, and every other 'classic' game, the roots are in question... Consider the Syndicate fiasco... Some people think they're staying true to the roots, but those that don't, can't agree on what the roots are...

With Syndicate, and this, I fondly remember playing them at the time, breaking new ground, with new gameplay (more syndicate than M&M 4/5 - other than the awesome combination aspect), but for any developer (whether the same company/employees, or a new group altogether) to pick up a classic game to make a 'remake', many many things have to change...

Hence the introduction of 'spiritual successor' (like Bio Shock from System Shock 1/2).

Plus, developers want to make their own choices, add their own cool ideas, etc... Only the rabid fans (that don't need to make a living at it), work on the true remakes : ) And having said this, I don't want to take the M&M 4/5 game that I loved so much and personally update the graphics/etc... I did, however, make a Cloud of Xeen map/zone on a mud about a decade ago : )

Cloud gaming. What a joke. The only thing it lets me do is game at work (on my POS laptop or my POS work computer) which I should not be doing anyhow.

I have a true rig at home for real gaming.

What if it let you play something with Rage quality graphics on your tablet or phone?

Something like OnLive on a mobile device is not likely... Maybe never, but that's always a bad prediction....

Reason being, mobile controls are vastly inadequate for non-mobile games... As an example, you can't play Super Mario Bros as well on mobile, because while the NES controller only had 2 buttons and a D-Pad, you could use just your thumb to 'super run' and jump... Unless your thumb has a hole in the center (I'm not judging you if it does : ), you can't get that second separate touch in. You can accomplish this by using two fingers of course, but then you're holding the device really oddly.

So in a few years, when you're 'all' complaining about mobilization affecting PC games, you can fondly remember how it wasn't as bad with consolization heh : )
