Big soldier guys? Head to the forest. The mobs there are way easier. Unless you mean the pigs in the town.

The big ogre hippo thing... it was worth it though I had less trouble with the asylum demon lol

You are absolutely positively not supposed to be fighting those the first time through things betwixt.

Is there a reward for taking them down like with the asylum demon though?

The Asylum demon is required... And only has a guaranteed reward (the weapon) if you kill it with no heals and the initial no damage broken weapon (that takes a thousand hits).

The first hippo drops a nice ring, and the set of two in the next area give you an interesting weapon (that you get from the cook in the room with all the peoples).

I feel bad for the people that can't run it, but I've had a great ol time. And the asinine comments are unsurprising from the usual bitches...

Being instanced between zones was something that bothered me when I picked up the first Guild Wars title, thinking it was a step backwards from the open world design which was provided in Warcraft.

Now, it's not that much of a big deal as long as the zones are interesting and loaded with content. The starter zones like Levian Bay and Crimson Isle are pretty straight-forward and short but once you hit Deradune, the game really opens up with content, creature variety, a zone boss, crafting professions, and about 10x more points of interest for your path.

For me, these betas have made me more and more excited and it's nice that they are giving us a surprise beta weekend coming up on top of extending the previous beta weekend. On top of that, each beta shows the amount of work they are putting in between weekends rather than use it as a demo and ignore the bugs or optimization.

They really do have a great relation with the community.

Is pre-ordering the only way to get in beta? I didn't see a sign up on their site...

If so, I hope there's an open one close to launch. As is, I know almost nothing about the game, and will keep it that way unless some free option shows up : )

I didn't say that. I simply reverse his/your way of thinking.

If you've fallen through the world does that mean it happens to everyone?

No!

Okay... then.

You're building a straw man argument. He never said it happened to everyone, just that it happened to him, multiple times, and therefore he didn't like the game. You countered that with a tone of "Well, it never happens to me, so it's an invalid argument."

It's a very, very, very, very, very, very, very often heard argument in PC gaming, and it's a terribly boring one. Be glad you didn't suffer from the issue. Other people are.

You're building a straw man argument. He never said it happened to no one, just that it didn't happen to him, multiple times, and he likes the game.

Looks like it could be fun... Reminds me of the souls games, though it doesn't look as slow or punishing, and much much prettier.

No price listed on steam, but the EB link has it at $50... Will add it to a list and check back when it's cheap, or I get bored mid May and some gameplay vids look good.

The cool thing is that for games you buy on Steam that require Uplay, it doesn't matter which service you launch the game from, it will also launch the other service. Twice the waiting, twice the updates, twice the fun!

The new Might and Magic is the only UPlay game I have that's on steam, and steam updates it, then when I launch it, UPlay shows up, in the background... And there's no noticeable delay... I actually didn't know UPlay was there until I exited the game.

Yep, but I have a problem standing around with 15 other people waiting to gang-bang the mob. Or in the case of finishing a dunegon (non-instanced), you have to stand there for a few minutes waiting for the end-boss to spawn, then hope you get a hit on him in the half second he lives. Otherwise you get to wait again. Or not get the achievement for the dungeon.

Honestly if that were the only problem with ESO, that'd be fine. Things like that will die down in a week. But the bugs. My god. They're really competing with traditional TES games. At least with TES, the community can fix things. Not so here.

I agree that it's frustrating as hell... Especially now that we're all used to fast spawning 'named' mobs... Back in the day, after trudging uphill, in snow, for hours, we had to wait another few hours for a spawn... : )

Shared (quest) mobs was one of the things added to WoW in MoP, but they still fucked it up for launch day/week, because while you only needed like 5% of the kill, there was one quest that required you to get enough damage on two mobs... So there were like 50 people standing around these two mobs spamming AOE as soon as they spawned... Also frustrating as hell to miss out on the quest credit.

As for bugs, I have encountered 2 or 3, all of which were 'phasing' issues that a re-log fixed. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the smoothness of the launch...

I hope, and expect, your experience to improve over the coming days (hopefully it doesn't take even that long).

I guess I forgot to make my point, if I wait until the last day to decide, I still my get charged for a sub I did not want and I have to go through the hassle of taking it off my charge, and like many of us, I tend to forget when the 30 day limit is due.

Do what I do.. Make it a habit of cancelling immediately after sub'n...

What a joke. All MMOs from as far back as I remember let you shitcan your subscription setup by cancelling your credit card right out of the gate in the event that you don't want to be billed when your free month expires.

Leave it to the company which championed a whole race being locked down unless you bought the premium super edition to come up with this kind of bullshit process.

Not all MMOs have done this, but ESO certainly did... I always go 'month to month', and had no problem doing the same... I set up my sub for a month, then immediately cancelled...

Bethesda has prostituted itself with this travesty. Thankfully they did not make it in-house and so when it inevetably fails and goes F2P 6 months down the road when people realise it's not Skyrim, or Morrowind, or even Daggerfall with an online component, but rather a reskined World of Warcraft, I hope they get back to what they do best. Make their ES games in house and keep them firmly in single-player fully MODDable territory.

What makes an MMO just a 'reskinned WoW'? Or is it just that it's an MMO, because I played a reskinned DOOM the other day, and it was a hell of a lot of fun...

Alamar, you might be interested in checking out Wykkyds mod for ESO. its a very nice UI mod and much more. It has a ton of features to turn on and off.

Just came back from curse to see what it offered... Was surprised to see Recount; Didn't know the numbers were available. Thanks for the suggestion; I like the 'slightly improved' addons, though I may also try the WarLegend HUD.

My only real criticism so far is the FOV...seriously, do the developers even play videogames?!

Yes, but they play them on shitty consoles that can't handle a higher FOV at a decent resolution...

Though I'd be surprised if the PS4 can't just run this at 90FOV @ 1080p with a decent framerate, because visually it really isn't all that spectacular.

While it's true, smaller FOV renders less objects, I always thought the smaller FOV was because couches sit further away than computer chairs...

Either case is irrelevant on a PC, where options should always be available, especially trivial ones like this.

He, like many people said.. "it feels like a few other people playing Skyrim with me"

I normally give games a test run myself, but I value his gaming opinion, and after we played Wildstar, he said that it's WAY better in every way vs ESO.

I WANT ESO to thrive.. competition is awesome! But I am hearing it's just not that good vs what's out there already, and what's coming soon

I have a gamer co-worker with the opposite reaction... He was hyping about Wildstar for the last year+... Tried the beta, and got meh'd out... Tried ESO beta, and that's what he's been playing the last few days...

Well, bought it, hope springs eternal. Took all night to download via update/patcher. Lots of sliders in character creation, including vital hip, waist, butt, and boob sliders. Face sliders (jaw, cheek, mouth) barely do anything.

Started tut with my char, it freezes for 5s every minute or so. I'll play with settings I guess.

What I usually do to make a char is use the randomize button until I find the look that I like. After that I fine tune it from there.

Yep, were having lots of fun exploring the world. itís fun to find random mines and caves to wonder around in. If you are looking to get your lock picking skills up, find a river, they seem to like putting a lot of chest around rivers.

I know absolutely nothing about the game qua MMORPG. I am a sorcerer, can they lockpick or is it tied to the thief class?

I picked like 8 chests last night, as a sorcerer... I've heard mention of the 'lock pick skill', but I don't see it listed anywhere... The lockpicking UI is kind of neat... Definitely more interesting than Skyrim, though just as easy.

As for char creation... My wife spends an hour making a char, which didn't work well... Worked great on my PC, but then we got it on hers, and the char creation screen has fucked up lighting, so most of the character is darkened. Mucking with some settings helped, but didn't remove the issue. I went by her PC, and I'm like... pfft... good enough : )

My char creation process is step based... Mash randomize until I see a nice face/color/hair (as in, 0 to 3 randomize presses), remove scaring/tattoos/etc, maybe change the hair, and set height to minimum... Which backfired last night when my wife's char's head came up to my amazon's (only MMO female I've ever made) char.

As for the game... The skill system is very odd, and concerns me, and the combat isn't as bad as Skyrim's, but still a little too clunky. Otherwise, voice acting for every quest, and every flavor/useless NPC is... interesting. The minimalistic UI concerns me... I like features, and numbers... We'll see how things go over the month.

You think there's a "season" for BBQ? Naw, son. What you got right there is a "season" on your gumption. When I lived in Colorado, I kept the grill next to the sliding glass door that led to the deck. With that setup, the man-stove is always open for business. Sure, you get a little BBQ smoke inside sometimes, but that just whets the appetite. Long as the wind doesn't blow out the flame, your ribs'll do their happy-dance on the grill just fine, even in subzero weather.

I have had to crawl over feet of snow down my ramp to get to my BBQ a dozen times throughout the winter... Perfectly cooked, medium rare, NY Strip... So worth it...

I wonder what the reaction would have been had it been Google to buy Oculus...

I personally see it no different, and in both cases, it's the best thing that could have happened for the company (cha ching) and the product.

I'm still not hyped about VR, or 3D, as I've been interested in those fads in the past, and will wait this time, to see if anything significant comes of it : )

But I'm more hopeful that a company with a crap ton of cash is behind something that is potential ludicrously expensive.
