  • No more "mana" ball (in regards to a potion for it), now a kill "charge up" to fill... wtf?

  • Didn't like these two "features" at all, especially the cool-down shite, very much NOT Diablo.

I totally disagree... When I played Diablo, potions were occasional use items for most of the game, and spam fests at others...

For Titan Quest; a game I really enjoyed, boss fights consisted of holding down an attack (maybe using a few more), and hitting the potion button every ~3 seconds... Boring as shit...

So I'm all for the game being balanced with a save-my-ass feature instead of a simulated health regen (as long as my finger/mouse doesn't slip).

Odd 'news' story... Couldn't they have shown something I wasn't also doing when I was a teen? I can't very well dispute his 'condition' or if he's drawing some cool 'math' shit... But the pics in the article are pretty basic 'spiral' style...

Now, if he was drawing those straight lines without a ruler, I'd be impressed : )

Case in point? My logo is based on the same idea, though with not nearly as much overlap...

And? WoW had some of the greatest quest variety in the MMO genre. What exactly is your point?

My point is that, to many, WoW is the epitome of 'generic quests', but still has a crazy amount of variety...

    -Alamar

The snowball fight quest was awesome. So was the gathering of rabbit food, where you had to carry it across a field of rabbit holes. The rabbits would pop out randomly and chase you down to get the food back.

Frankly, I think anyone saying that the quests are 'standard' or lacking in variety is either completely full of shit or barely played the game. Since the majority of "quests" involve doing any of 3-4 different things, if you chose to just kill things, that's your own fault. I remember putting out fires in fields with buckets of water, killing bandits that were raiding a farm, gathering grapes, escorting caravans, destroying centaur villages, freeing slaves, snowball fights, solving riddles (easy ones), cleaning up graffiti, protecting miners and gathering up the ore they mined, scaring away rabbits from fields, protecting workers that were repairing a water pumping station, destroying portals in a swamp, luring armored crabs into traps, planting bait to lure rabbits into an area to pacify ettins, sealing a destroyer mound, watering plants, disarming traps, tearing down banners, destroying siege equipment...

The list could still go on, but if all you see in that list is Kill X, Collect Y, then the problem is yours, not the game's.

Fuck that! It's getting close to 90 here this week...

Dude, we're freezing our nads off up here. It's been 10+ degrees below seasonal for 2 or 3 weeks now. *grumble mumble*

We've had freeze watches here in Mass for the last week, which is rather unusual for this time of year. What's really got me going is that it was 70+ in March, and yet at the end of April I'm damn near getting frostbite every time I go for a bike ride. I had to stop checking the weather last week, it was too depressing.

That one week in March was great... Other than all the 'O M G, Global Warming!!!' crap... But I knew winter wasn't done with us...

Having just bought a house, and setting up my office in the basement, I've been quite cold... Waiting on summer and the (lack of) need for central A/C to decide on what to do... I hate wearing pants/socks at home...

So much disappointment in one little weekend...

I'm going to ignore all the beta issues, such as instances not working properly (fighting 6 mobs and getting owned, because the companion that was supposed to be helping, isn't), because it urges too many trolls (or are they fan boys?) to say, 'it's just beta, it'll be perfect on release'... or some shit : )

'Action' combat system... My ass... The combat felt no different than any other massive... You select a target, turn on your auto attack (make sure you're in range), and occasionally hit one of your other very limited (number of, that is) abilities...

Movement to dodge projectiles? I remember them showing centaurs firing arrows and players dodging them years ago... Where did that go? Or maybe the magic ballista I was testing against works differently, but if I'm far right, and it shoots, and I move far left, with the projectile following me, where's the difference from every-other-game? Now, doing an arbitrary dodge (double tap) in this scenario gives me an 'evaded' message, so maybe that's the 'action combat' they have?

I said it many times, but I was still so very disappointed to be doing the exact same kill/fed-ex/collect quests as every-other-game, but this time, without knowing how many iterations are needed (how is that an improvement?).

And now, my major beef... Attempting to play with (in the same area as) the wife was an exercise in futility... They copied the functionality from City of Heroes (and the like), which is 10 year old technology, and they can't do it half as well? Here's how the game is designed... When you go into an area, like say, Wayfarer Hills (early Norn area), and it's full, you get put into an arbitrary overflow 'queue' (fancy way of saying, a copy of the zone, so that you're not stuck not playing)... That part is good/fine... But since you can't swap to another arbitrary overflow zone, and the person you're grouped with, also gets thrown into a random one, you either have to get extremely lucky, or wait the hour (sometimes shorter, usually much longer, at least during peak) to be able to get into the same zone.

Now, I understand that it's possible the designers never had 3 copies of zone (2 overflow queues), so they just didn't see this issue come up, but holy crap what an annoying oversight... In a game that's constantly lauded as everyone else you're playing with being co-operative (not competitive for tags, kills, loots, etc)...

So in conclusion, it's just another 'WoW clone', or more accurately, just another mmo... For me, I'm mostly ok with that with other games, because they add their advancements to the genre (even if other companies don't 'learn' from them - more massives need sidekicking), but GW2 claimed to be so much more, and like being over-hyped with a movie (Blair Witch... I waited 2 hours for 'the scary part', and the only emotion it evoked in me, was the desire to go camping), it was a huge let-down.

So while I haven't mentioned anything that is beta specific, I do understand that one of these things can be 'fixed' before release, and I sure as hell hope they do... Not being able to play with friends in a massive, is just beyond ridiculous... I was hoping I just kept missing some obscure setting/option, and that' still possible, but the UI is so minimal in this regard, that's hard to believe (plus, it really should be in two obvious places - party window and map).

C'mon, you know as well as I do, people pile on EA for Origin related stuff all the time, or the whole "I'll only buy it on steam!" bullshit. Because you know running a desktop icon to start a game is so radically different depending on which DD service you bought it from.

Yet Blizzard can essentially do the same thing and everyone is fine with it. Don't give me that cop out crap.

Or threaten to boycott Ubisoft for DRM, yet Blizzard does it, and goes one further by including a real money auction house that they get a cut off of, when anyone with half a brain knows D3 will have the same duped items economy 1 and 2 did, and hey no problem mon!

If that isn't hypocritical I'm not sure what is.

I have no interest in Origin, and for the most part, don't buy digital games if they're not on Steam...

I also don't generally support Ubi's DRM games, but am happily going to play D3, single player (most of the time). I also disagree about your duping expectations, but don't worry, I won't say 'it won't happen'; I just don't think it'll be that bad.

I also disagree that it's 'the same thing'... I also realize that decisions are extremely rarely made for one reason, but everyone always argues the one (and only) reason... Blizzard made a design decision, years ago, to have an online only game, and while money is likely the single largest reason, it's not the reason. And if you disagree, that's cool, but it doesn't make people who feel differently (even if their opinions can vary about different products/services) hypocrits for feeling differently : )

See, the point I'm making, beyond this not being hypocrisy, is that I'm a person, that could be a hypocrit, but calling the whole community (whether it's gamers, or just Bluesnewsians) hypocritical is just... hypocritical : )

Plus really, where's the line between hypocrisy and changing one's opinions?

These beer goggles need less beer!

Blizzard is doing the exact same thing as EA, can't believe I am seeing doublethink here on bluesnews. B.Net is an entire digital distribution system, with RMT and digital purchases. That is *exactly* why the game isn't on Steam or any other digital distributor (unlike Origin games, by the way)

So Blizzard is actually even WORSE than EA. At least EA gives you the option who manhandles you, Blizzard just does it wholesale.

Yes but it's only trendy to hate EA and not Valve or BlizzActivison of all things. It's funny the hate Activision gets in a COD thread or a Guitar Hero thread, but when it's Blizzard "we take a decade a game due to lack of project management and can do no wrong" Restrictions like always on DRM (See Ubisoft hate) Or limiting online distro to just themselves (See EA/Origin hate) its somehow ok and different. Like I've said a few times, gamers are the most hypocritical bunch of douches period.

That last line kind of sums up your problem though...

'Gamers' is a community, and any one topic in that community, it has an opinion (as a whole, which we'll just say is the statistical superior), so anyone going against that opinion is a hypocrit (or as seen on this site for ages, a douche, idiot, fan boy, 'hater', etc).

In short... Groups aren't hypocritical, unless they're sheep or lemmings... People are... : )

Plus, as humans, we're all hyporcrits, so it's kind of moot.

Purdy, but will hold judgement until release, and then not really care unless the game is also fun : )

The unique game mechanic in Reset is the ability to travel back in time to solve puzzles co-operatively, with yourself.

This sounds interesting... Though could end up not all that different than say, Raziel's (Kain series) light/dark puzzle dynamic (which is fine, I liked the game(s)).

Interesting though, that free DLC in this day and age sparks a happy vibe, when it used to be that the price of a game would give you all the updates free for a year or two, and THEN there might be an expansion with a good deal of new content...
