Usual shit from EA, wont be buying it anyways.

Show me where EA touched you...

Seriously, EA make awesome games a lot of the time. This old hate is silly.
Name the last "awesome" game they made, then ask yourself what that game would've been like without EA's taint on the developer. Obviously it's a subjective thing to consider, and if you believe games like Dragon Age 2, Crysis 2 & Dead Space 2 are better than the originals, obviously we are of two separate minds on the matter. Either way, one look at your avatar and I can see you are a handsome chap, and therefore I feel strangely insecure about my own manliness, therefore I have no choice but to forfeit my opinion to yours.

Hmmm... Didn't like either Dragon Age... Enjoyed both Dead Space's about equally, and enjoyed both (all three) Crysis (Crysii?)...

Maybe this is why my distaste for EA isn't as prevalent around these parts...

Was EA not involved with Dragon 1, Dead Space 1, or Crysis 1/1.5?

Despite claims to the contrary by the usual suspects it will take about an hour, maybe an hour and a half if you take your time.

Anyone that says it will take under 2 hrs to explore everywhere, listen & read all quest and flavour text, loot everything, etc in the beta is a lying sack of shit.

I've beat the beta in 4 player coop in 45min. We raced from beginning to end, killing as little as possible, looted only what was in front of me and Blue, talked to nobody, skipped all quest text/info, didn't train the Blacksmith, etc.

It's a great way to have zero fun at all.

While I'm generally a completionist myself, an extra 30 mins isn't going to change anyone's perception. End of the day the chunk of the game they put up for a beta, is short in comparison to the full game. Not sure why you're getting your I <3 Blizzard gstring in a twist about it.

I would so buy an I <3 Blizzard gstring if they sold them on the battle.net store... Just saying...

You can do some replays to up the play time of course. My favorite class was the Wizard followed closely by the Barb. Monk was pretty cool as well though hes balanced a little weirdly.

As with, every single thing in life... Your 'mileage may vary'... Don't need to be snarky about again disagreeing with other people's also-nearly-useless estimates...

I got at least 2-3 hours of 'enjoyment' out of my initial play through, because I'm all about 'defeating the fog (of war)', so if you play like that, and kill every mob and (nearly every) breakable item along the way, it could take that long...

My second playthrough, with my boss (his first), was all about following the 'path of least resistance', and it was over so quickly... And he commented, when the 'you beat beta' line came up, 'wtf, that's it?'... I giggled (yes, like a schoolgirl)...

On the plus side, and I'm sorry guys, that my comment isn't immediately bashing EA or what not, it's not 30s of branding with 5s of 'teaser'... More like 6s of branding out of 18s total, but still, things are looking up : )

invert horizontal mouse option
Ok, I gotta ask. And this is coming from someone who always reverses mouselook (aka vert)...

Maybe their mental frame of reference is 3rd person, so pulling the interface left moves the focus right? Like controlling a studio camera.

I used to know someone who used a mouse rotated 180, even in Windows.

Like how when OS X Lion came out, and it switched everyone's scroll functionality to the opposite, because now you're 'pushing the page up', instead of 'scrolling your view down'...

Also, I've seen hundreds of games over the years with horizontal invert right under vertical invert... It's like those weird left-handed people...

Why bother with Diablo III Beta. Played Diablo III Beta till the end of Act I. But, I found Path of Exile to be a much better experience. I tried Path of Exile for the first time, when they opened up the beta as a buy-in a couple of weeks ago.

(and: I am not associated with the developers).

Just my 2 cents....

Michael

Wow man... if my Diablo 3 beta went to the end of Act I, I'd be all over that...

As for Path... Tried the open weekend, it was generic as hell... Got into the beta like two days earlier, and just haven't gotten around to trying it more...

Yeah, but we won't be buying the game because of the online DRM but we still wanted to try it out.

I expect the release to be less than smooth but the DRM doesn't bother me, aside from not having a pause function. I probably wouldn't even be getting it if I didn't have a bunch of game credits on Amazon that were set to expire.

Hitting escape pauses D3 when solo... Forgetting to do it, and alt tabbing... Well, that was my first death heh...

Crytek has an excellent game engine but they really lack in the creativity department.

Developing a new game franchise is expensive but I think they should have taken Crysis in a whole new direction rather than rehashing crysis 2 again with a few improved visuals.

It sounds like they're going to diversify the environments a little more this time but that's only part of the problem, the "aliens" are so generic and boring in this game it makes "Space Invaders" feel epic by comparison.

The nano suit is fun for single player mayhem but doesn't work for multiplayer, it would be like making a Superman game and then having everyone in mutiplayer be Superman.

Good luck Crytek

epic Space Invaders... Exaggeration is fun : )

As for nano suit MP... Deus Ex... I enjoyed the MP in the first game... One of my few fond memories of the game actually, and ya, it had to do with stealth/invis...

Two things are inherently OP in every multi player game... and likely more than two, but I'm focusing on healing and stealth/invisibility... Though perhaps you're alluding to the speed/slow thing... But that's easy enough ; )

Anyhow... I don't get all the complaining about using a bow... Tons of movies throw mini-nukes onto small objects and projectiles, so even without going that far, an arrow, strapped with something explosive, can do a good bit of damage, even to a heavy ; ) C4 is a good candidate ; ) Better than curving bullets : )

And personally, if it's not on Steam, it's an unlikely purchase... Not because I'm boycotting Origin... Simply because it's not enough of a hit for me to do the extra (although minimal) effort... Which I do for other games I want to play (Diablo 3, Guild War 2 both already pre-purchased).

We let them know in the beta forums in agonizing detail for MONTHS about what the reaction to the game shipping in it's current state would be... and well, here we are.

I wonder what game has ever launched, in the last 10 or so 'connected' years, where this wasn't the case... There is always someone, or a group of someone's, calling doom, because their favored feature(s) is/are missing...

But having said that, I think this could add an interesting level of strategy, but I wonder... at what point would you rather block than attack?

When the enemy attacks kill you before you can kill the enemy? Isn't that kind of obvious? You have two people in the back row who can still DPS while shields up front tank.

What's obvious, to me, is that if a block option was available, it would just pump up (temporarily) the evasion value, since that is what a block is in game already...

If it were a damage reduction, at 100%, it would be overpowered (why would you ever use your first two chars if blocking stopped all damage)... if it were less, it would have to be 50% or higher so that a fight taking twice as long doesn't have the same resulting damage.

there *really* should be blocking and parrying options.

The "right hand" icon is right there for each character and you can hold shields for defensive value, so it is ready to go as an option.

This is an interesting idea, but may be too much away from the design goal... That being, strafe-dodging is intended... You're not supposed to get backed into an area where you can't maneuver...

But having said that, I think this could add an interesting level of strategy, but I wonder... at what point would you rather block than attack? I'm already clicking like a mad man (sword, unarmed, and dagger on my fighter/fighter/rogue, and then the unwieldy casting means 'mouse skill' is important, even if I'm really just playing whack-a-mole : ).

Can't go wrong with pooping pigs...

Anyhow... This is precisely what I don't like about the kickstarter hype... On the one hand, it's great that some people can pre-order the game for $15, and perhaps, it'll cost more at launch...

On the other, this isn't a game that needs our funding... This game is being made... It looks like a game that I will buy, but not until it's available (or just before), because if I'm throwing money at kickstarter projects, I want them to need the money I'm donating...

Edit: Also meant to add that I love the art style : )
