The Quake 3 source code is already available, they're talking about the Doom 3 source code (which is pretty cool IMHO). Alot of stuff has been done with the q3a source code.

Mass Effect was worth my $40. Not great, but good.
But holy jesus, Derek French, if you're still reading... the same maps over and over and over *really* detract from the immersion. It doesn't matter how you re-arrange the crates on the grid, you've gotta have more variation in the map layouts.
Also, driving gets boring. Do something about that too, hopefully something that doesn't involve driving over 10 mountain ranges to get where you need to go.

i was never able to get under that stupid falling gate trap. tried it about a dozen times, never figured the trick out, gave up. Wow I probably haven't played since I was 10 and I remember that.
You have to walk right up to the gate, then punch or kick so your arm or leg goes under the gate. The gate falls after you pull your punch back, then you can run through while the gate is being raised again.

I'm actually playing through fallout 2 for the first time right now. And I'm enjoying it thoroughly, I'm totally addicted to it and having a lot of fun.
But I'm just not seeing some of the stuff that you guys are talking about. With regard to dialog, yes occasionally there are some interesting or funny bits of information to get out of people. But 90% of the time, you can ask an NPC one of 3 questions: Tell me about this place, Tell me about yourself, and Do you have any jobs for me? I have smooth talker, high intelligence and speech ratings, where are all of these wonderfully deep dialog paths I should be seeing? The maximum depth is maybe 3 or 4 levels from what I've seen. And don't bother asking anybody about the GECK ("well I've heard of geckos, but....")
And with regard to combat... are you guys actually claiming that you're talking your way out of fighting radscorpions, rats, wild dogs and geckos? A big chunk of the (early, at least) gameplay is fighting those things, whether you're defending brahmin from them, encountering them on journeys, or selling their hides for money (which seems to be necessary to advance the plot, a bunch of early quests require nothing but cold, hard cash).
Besides that, on many encounters, even with humans, it goes into combat mode before you even get the chance to talk to anyone. And you can't converse while in combat mode (no matter how badly I'd like to have my squad members change weapons or tactics).
And BTW, combat is *incredibly* tedious early in the game. "You have missed", "radscorpion has missed", "you have missed", "radscorpion has missed"... okay now imagine 10 more lines of that. Any kind of improvement on that kind of shit is most welcome. I'm not going to spend an hour of real time chasing wild dogs around a map just for one mission. This kind of shit *needs* to be improved for any kind of modern commercial game. If you want this kind of gameplay, there's plenty of MUDs on the internet you can telnet to.
Anyway, admittedly I'm only 1/3 of the way through, and I have a lot more to see. Hopefully I'll someday actually be able to use this high science skill, as well as some other skills I haven't had the chance to use yet. But honestly, it seems like if the first 1/3 of FO3 is anything like the first 1/3 of FO2, you guys will be up in your arms about how terrible it is.

everybody else forgot too. I even had to stay at work late today, applying some reboot-required patches after work hours.

you might get acceptable performance if you turn off all the bells and whistles, Runs great for me, nothing special 2.4ghz core2, 4850.
Network stuff sucked before SP1, but its fine now.
No up button in the file explorer. A search function that's slow and doesn't always find files that you know are there. BSOD-ing when I exit a game? Click on the directory you want in the address bar. BSOD when you exit a game means you need to update your drivers.
However I admit right now the steam version of Bioshock is crashing on exit, and taking my desktop background with it. Hmmm... that didn't used to happen on my 7800GT... I wonder if its a directx 10 bug?

If blue posted a story about the CEO of Stardock taking a shit, you guys would be gushing all over it. "scat porn isn't usually my thing, but if Stardock sells it I'll buy it in a second!"

Judging by the pirate release list I'm looking at now, I'm pretty sure that 99% of 360, Wii, PS2, DS and PSP games are pirated too. And that's where you're making your mistake. Take the 360 for example. A release means nothing. You need to mod your console before you can play some burned disk. Which means you can't connect to Xbox Live, lest it brick your console once MS figures out its modded. Which removes half the functionality of the console. Oh yeah, and by the way, if you buy a game a year from now, it might have a BIOS update that bricks your console too. Now are you sure you want to mod your console? Guess you can't do as much with that release as you thought.

So you guys think valve isn't using copy protection?
I dare you to try to pirate a version of HL2 with all of the patches and features that a fully updated steam version has. Have fun now, ya hear?

actually just finished ME today, having pre-ordered it. The only DRM problem I had was that I had to run it as administrator for it to start without crashing. Obviously that problem is solved easily enough... clicking on the UAC prompt every time I run it is annoying though.

I am only posting this message so that bluesnews saves my password and I don't have to remember it next time.
I figured no one would mind in a 24 post story.

I thought it was exactly as restrictive as Bioshock. Online activation required, and more than 3 activations requires deactivating old installs.
