Big fans of Larrabee huh? Interesting to be big fans of a set of slides. Even when/if hardware does come out, it won't be all that. It's all hype and actually not properly designed. Intel is totally going in the wrong direction with the programming model. It may sound "ok" in theory, but when it comes to compute...well, you'll see.

Les Paul guitars are awesome. I have one, although I rarely ever do anything with it any more. I need a better amp than I have.

The controls are MUCH smoother and just plain better than the first. I've always had difficulty with the first due to the weird mouse movement.

The graphics of this game are very good. I also love the Western genre and I think it's cool this game has Civil War elements too.

The thing that really pisses me off though is the aim assist or auto-aim, whatever you want to call it. But it only happens when you have dual revolvers so it could have been worse.

I haven't finished the game yet (I'm getting owned at this one particular quick draw stage) but I hear it's short which sucks.

I hope there's eventually a sequel to Gun and I also look forward to Red Dead Redepmtion (GTA4 in the old west, lol). I do hope they make more CoJ games after this too.

It was bad enough that this did not come from Bohemia, but from Codemasters whoring the brand.

Thank God it didn't come from Bohemia. They can't program, or design, to save their lives. For an engine that's been in development for 10 years, it sure looks like something that any one else could do in a year tops.

I liked (and still do) Romero's maps the best.

Romero was a big part of the humor in id's early games. Something that was obviously suddenly gone once he left. I have always thought one of the main reasons id's early games were so good was because of Romero (and of course Carmack's programming genius). I firmly believe that Doom 3 would have turned out A LOT better if Romero was involved. But it turned out to be a game that didn't feel like a Doom game or have that "Doom look" at all.

I'm going to need a demo for this first. If this was being made by id internally then I'd feel better about just buying it. Like I will with RAGE and Doom 4.

I had this pre-ordered on Amazon for $49 (with free 2 day shipping with Prime) but then I found out newegg has it for $37 with free shipping (not 2 day unfortunately). So I canceled my Amazon pre-order and placed it with newegg.

I'd bet this extra mission will be available to everyone shortly after launch anyway. One way or another.

Wow that looks pretty damn amazing. MUCH better than the screens and videos they released previously.

Reading through that SIGGRAPH presentation has reminded me I need to get back to my own virtual texturing demo I was working on.

And to think Doom 4 will look at least 2x as good since it's going to be a 30Hz game. Although I'd rather Doom 4 be 60Hz so the gameplay could be fast like the old dooms.

News Comments > Manual ARMA II Patch
9. Re: Manual ARMA II Patch Aug 6, 2009, 15:48 SirKnight

"10 years of constant engine development..."

You would think after that long this would be a pretty solid engine. But instead, their games just seem to get more and more buggy. Not only that, but the implementation of just about everything feels amateurish. I especially dislike the HDR implementation. It looks like a beginner in gfx programming whipped that up. The NVGs are not realistic at all which I think is due to the horrid HDR. The sound likes to play over and over or make things have an echo.

I could go on and on about the general poor implementation of virtually every aspect of this game. The ONLY thing that's good about it is the idea of an open sandbox world. I play this game quite a bit due to that as it does fill a gaming need I can't get anywhere else (maybe OFP2 will help but I'm un-sure). But I'm constantly shaking my head when I see how screwy things are done there.

Beware of the STEAM update. It's not a "small" 125MB download like the retail boxed version. You have to download 4GB!!!

BIS, in all their wonderful programming ways, decided not to worry with making the STEAM version a small update and just decided to make you download most of the game all over again.

This sucks for those like me who are on a crappy internet service with VERY tight bandwidth limits. Looks like I'll be re-downloading the whole damn game at work. :/

This game is such a cluster-f**k. Not that it surprises me at all.

News Comments > No PC Modern Warfare 2 Special Editions
29. Re: No PC Modern Warfare 2 Special Editions Jul 30, 2009, 12:44 SirKnight

I figure they just realize that special editions on the PC do not sell like they do on the consoles. I'm only guessing that's the case though. It would seem like to me the console kiddies eat up special edition crap. I'll just go buy REAL NVGs.

They did this with CoD4 though. The special edition for the 360 came with a DVD about the SAS. I actually wanted that DVD but there's no way I'd get the console version. Plus it was like $70 or some crap.

I do regret buying CoD 4 on the PC for the full $50 price. I don't play MP and the SP was too short and way too scripted for my tastes. At times it had its moments, but enemy respawning sucks no matter what.

My plan is to get this game for $20 or less at some point down the road since that's all I see it being worth. In the meantime, I'll be playing ArmA 2 and OFP2 (PC of course - editor FTW).

Yeah, this plays like the typical arcade console shooter.

LOL...are you really that dense?

Sorry but ArmA 2 is just not that great. It had potential, but BIS is not up to the task. Of course the fanboys are too blind to see this.

Saying this game has a lot of bugs is an understatement. I've been playing BIS's simulations since OFP was first released and I loved that game, even though it had its fair share of issues. But ArmA 1 and 2 is just WTF sometimes. There are aspects of it that's truly great but there's a lot of other things that makes me want to punch babies.

If only we had a game like this that was open source...

News Comments > Windows Natal?
9. Re: Windows Natal? Jul 15, 2009, 12:06 SirKnight

I don't know where people get the impression that every motion sense control has to be like the Wii's shitty implementation or make you flail around the entire room to accomplish something simple. You can use very small gestures with Natal. I don't imagine it will work well with every application but motion sensing technology is much like touch screen technology in that it has a lot of promise if implemented correctly.

I don't know why people take what I said seriously. It was obviously a joke to anyone with common sense. Just sayin...

So at every office worldwide everyone will look like they've gone mad or hired a bunch of monkeys as everyone will be wagging their arms about performing gestures while working on a word/excel document.

So would standing up and thrusting your hips back and forth be a gesture for logging on to a porn site?

I can picture Quagmire from Family Guy doing that.
