With the gameplay changes they've made to this plus this always on DRM crap, no way in hell am I paying $60.

I'll wait till it's like $30 or less. Preferably less. Now I have something to look forward to during a holiday sale of 2013 or so.

I still play Diablo 2 (single player!!!) to this day, so I'll just continue with that...and Torchlight.

Instead of jumping on the 3D bandwagon they should've jumped on making a good gaming phone.

So instead of jumping on one bandwagon they should have jumped on another? lol

The last thing we need is more damn phones. Unless it's a phone that actually works well as a...phone. We need great portable gaming machines that show how it's done...with REAL buttons and such. The PS Vita looks like just that thing to me.

News Comments > Always on DRM in Driver: San Francisco
30. Re: Always on DRM in Driver: San Francisco Jul 27, 2011, 14:28 SirKnight

I'm very interested in this game due to the large amount of classic cars (pretty much the only ones I care about these days).

I also was planning on getting this for the console anyway. Likely 360.

This style of DRM is uncalled for. Luckily in my case this time I don't care about it since I'm not getting the PC version. But I worry about Far Cry 3. I don't want that on the console at all and I'm sure Ubishit will put this always-on DRM there too.

Yeah, regenerating health and bullets that fly like laser beams are sooooo realistic.

Uh oh....I turn 30 (damn it) next February so I guess I only have a few months left until I'm a weirdo basement dweller.

How sad.

Other than the regenerating health (boo! hiss!) this game looks pretty awesome.

I recently pre-ordered it on Amazon. I decided I didn't want to download 3 DVDs worth through steam.

I feel bad for the people who buy a used copy of RE: The Merc 3D not knowing the stupid shit Capcom is pulling. They think they are getting a good deal but will be shafted.

I guess this also shows how greedy GameStop is that they don't care they'll be shafting people.

I'm glad I forgot to checkout at Amazon yesterday when I put Alice in my cart. I just saved myself $20 by forgetting. I got the 360 version BTW. I would get the PC version (and I might later on a low steam sale) but I'd rather play it on my huge tv.

That QRP thing looks pretty good! I really like the normal mapped shots.

I'll have to try this.

w00t!

You can make Darkplaces have the classic Quake look (all pixelated and such) by using NEAREST filtering setting. It's in the options but I think you can also specify this in the console. I know you could in GLQuake. I actually prefer to use that mode so Quake looks authentic like I remember. I also think it looks better than filtering personally.

I also had issues with GLQuake crashing when trying to set resolutions. I thought about fixing this in the code, but there's really no point when there's a number of good ports already.

It's about damn time they add the -donothing option. I've been wanting an option that does nothing for years.

WinQuake? What are you Blue, a noob?

Try Qrack. Or maybe Dark Places, that shit makes the game look amazing.

Can't even enable mouselook. Jesus, is making an autoexec do fucking hard?

I think this is the second time in about a week where you've slammed Blue. If you're not happy, and don't appreciate the work he does here, you're more than welcome to move along...you won't be missed.

Just his typical nerd rage it seems. He slams everyone about everything.

The Darkplaces source port for Quake 1 is the way to go for modern systems/OSes.

Give it up already. Windows XP is dead and buried, and mercifully so.

Right. Just ignore the numbers.

By looking at the steam hardware survey, the numbers are showing XP is falling and becoming less and less relevant.

Nearly half are Windows 7, Vista (32 and 64bit together) are a few percent higher than XP (32 and 64 together). XP is in third place and is on the decline.

For me I've been done with XP for quite some time now.

18. Re: QUAKE Jun 17, 2011, 12:26 SirKnight

Oh I sure hope id does this. I loved Quake 1 and its universe. Of course, Quake 2 was bad ass too.

As long as they keep old school FPS design (not linear on rails, no regen health, fast paced action, lots of weapons - no limit!) but with idTech 5 that would be perfect!

And of course DM, Team DM, CTF and mods!

Oh yes, and music from Trent Reznor.
