| I wrote a couple of small programs to do things to it - ascii shifting, obvious stuff like that - but nothing. There are people out there who are way smarter than me and way more motivated to take on this kind of thing so I'm leaving it to them. |

There's a Praxis kit behind a wall in the Detroit sewers that pays for itself. I don't think I found that one, but I did find one in the second hub last night. I'd heard there were two in the Detroit sewers but I only found one. |

I ran into that too, and was very disappointed.
Only seen it happen once, though. The Punch through Walls aug is basically free though so there's no reason not to take it fairly early. There's a Praxis kit behind a wall in the Detroit sewers that pays for itself. |

I played through the game on 'hard' with zero contact with any body who didn't need to be 'neutralized' as per the objectives. I was surprised when on my next playthrough, I was getting Ghost even though I was knocking people out. Yeah, their definition of ghosting is a bit loose. It just means that you can't be seen. You can still neutralize every enemy you encounter. While it's cool that you can still genuinely ghost your way through the game, the way XP is rewarded means that doing so will put you at a disadvantage. If you want to get the most XP, there's only one route to go: the non-lethal takedown hacker. Perform non-lethal takedowns on every enemy and hack everything you see, even if you already know the password or have found another way through. They really should have just retained DX's XP system, where you only get rewarded for completing objectives and finding secret areas. That way, there is no inherent benefit to any one playstyle and people can play the way they want without fear of losing out on XP. Their definition of ghost confused me too. So I did the first mission in Detroit both ways. First, never seen, never alerted, never touched anybody. There was one part where a guard is standing on a balcony overlooking a room that was a bit dicey but other than that it wasn't that hard to do. Then I replayed it knocking out every single guard in the game (but still not being "seen") and ended up with a couple thousand more XP at the end (some of that was finding things I'd missed the first time though), way more ammo and way more money to buy Praxis. And I still got the ghost bonus.
I keep the highlighting on and use the third person cover system and don't mind the regenerating health one bit. All things I bitched and moaned about. For this game it works. The world is so much more detailed than the original DX that I can't imagine playing it without the highlighting (hated it Thief 3 though). But I'd be interested to hear others chime in on that. |

| I don't care. Let Bethesda make a few extra bucks from MS. I almost never get DLC until after a while anyway. Never bothered with any of the Oblivion DLC but have been enjoying the FO:NV DLC. |

I have a pretty powerful computer I got in February:
i7-980X Processor Extreme Edition (12M Cache, 3.33 GHz) 6 GB RAM NVIDIA GTX 580 1.5 GB
But the performance is "odd." It might be the issue people are having with mouse acceleration though - it just seems laggy. Plus there's an annoying stutter during the videos about every 20 seconds. Maybe performance is fine and it's just the mouse.
I only just flew out of Sarif Industries to my first mission so can't comment on the gameplay yet but I can definitely say there isn't a trace of consolitis. The control mapping screen (I can map multiple keys to a command - yay!), menus, and options are right at home on the PC. And ESC actually backs you out of all menus and back into the game (I'm looking at YOU Bethesda) |

| Yeah, that was very useful. I've been tinkering around trying to get better performance and it's nice to know what has the largest impact. I guess I'll try turning SSAO off first and use Edge Antialiasing. If that doesn't do it I can try turning soft shadows off. |

| Do remember whenever you hear about one of these ridiculous giant sues little guy over absurd trademark claim stories that if you don't defend a trademark you lose it. Still, if that was the case here you'd think Bethesda could license it for a dollar or something. |

I used to hate Steam with a passion as I was under the false impression that it was solely a DRM schema invented to do nothing but track everything I did with my games.
Steam does track what I do with my games and it is a DRM schema. However, it also allows me to install my games on any machine I want so long as that machine has an active internet connection. It offers me great deals on games that I wanted to buy anyway and I no longer have to carry discs back and forth between work and home to play whatever my current interest is.
I look at Steam, now, like I look at my email. I log in once and I get to what I want to do. It's painless and takes maybe a second or four to login. I so totally agree. HATED Steam and was pissed beyond belief when I found out HL2 required it. I held out for two years before finally playing HL2 (because I didn't have the internet at home at the time). Nowdays I love Steam for the same reasons as you. But also because I recently got a new computer and it was so nice being able to transfer all my games over without having to hunt down the original discs. I'm a slob and my discs are buried all over the place, so that was a big plus for me. |

And I said I gave the developers a lot of credit but not that much credit. I'm betting those decisions were all theirs and not from either focus groups or "on high." |

Can't really blame the developers for that one. That would be the bad luck Tanto referred to. They had major technology problems outside their control. And making it PC exclusive or doing a major porting job by redesigning all of the levels was also not a decision they had any control over. I blame it all on Daikatana. |

Tanto Edge wrote on Aug 12, 2011, 13:56: @Creston Harvey and Warren are awesome designer/developers and about the only ones whom I say got some of the best talent and worst luck in the industry. As hefty components of the Deus Ex, and Thief series', they were willing to try new shit, and that means a lot. Warren boned some as bettered some, but he was forging new territory. It's nice to hear somebody else say this. I have the same gripes about DX:IW as everybody but I always gave them the benefit of the doubt and looked at it as them pushing the envelope yet again and taking a big risk. They (or at least Harvey) always said they wanted to distill down the essence of what made DX great and really concentrate on that by making it even better and perhaps eliminating some of the peripheral distractions. I mostly hear people blame DX:IW's shortcomings on consolitis and dumbing down for a mass audience and I'm one of the first to jump on that bandwagon for many games, but in the case of DX:IW I take them at their word. They tried something new and failed. |

I wasn't getting Diablo III anyway. Loved the first one to death but the second one did away with save games and it was too annoying to play more than an hour or so. I expect the third one not to have save games either. With that and the new always on DRM, double the reason to skip.
