This is a great post. I have wondered the same thing often myself. Do you lose something when games have too much detail? As an old get-off-my-lawn-you-kids gamer I've always been reluctant to bring it up though. I know I'll get the inevitable asinine suggestion to go back to playing DOS games or text adventures.

I've always suspected I never cared for any of the Unreal Tournament games aside from the very first one because the later ones had too much detail and you lose a bit of the raw simplicity of the first one. With the big bulky oversize detailed armor it's not quite as easy to tell red from blue in an instant. It takes a lot longer to get the feel of a level because the detail, ironically, makes things look the same.

OK, flame away kids!

And there goes my SKSE again, hopefully it's been updated.

Time to reinstall that hex editor, sigh.

SKSE! Just what I was thinking! Aaah! I wish there was a way to delay installing the patch until my mods are updated. Just installed UFO - Ultimate Follower Overhaul this weekend and I'm loving it. But it's pretty sensitive to Skyrim versions so no doubt that won't work either.

In Germany we can watch the Olympics in a multi-channel life-stream official station web-site .. nearly half a dozen concurrent live streams ! Of nearly all events. on ARD or ZDF

And yes, with 0 Advertising! for free! This is one of the few things that make Germany great. We can watch international sport events on FREE TV and if its on the "public sponsored TV" (via GEZ fee) it can be watched via internet live-streams. And in case of olympics, with major simultaneous coverage of nearly every event.

This is the few perks we Germans have... and we pay GEZ for that...
Just curious. Have you ever had a chance to see any US coverage of the Olympics on NBC? You know, just to see how truly awful it is?

I stopped caring about the Olympics years ago when the signal to noise ratio dropped to near worthless levels. In the US you have to tolerate commercials every 8 minutes or less. Plus they only show a tiny handful of competitions for their "favorite" athletes and when everyone else is competing they fill the time with their fawning smarmy bios of the "scrappy underdog" succeeding in the face of adversity, or whatever will touch our heartstrings. Too bad. I used to love watching the Olympics.

I'm bored. I'll probably get it anyway. I never was into the whole being a vampire thing in ES so wasn't too excited when this was announced. I could get into being a vampire hunter though. From what I read that's by far the better way to go with this DLC.

Ahh, got it. It would be slightly more likely that I might one day make use of them if any old card bought anywhere would do. As it is, I don't ever see myself walking into a Gamestop. All the kids would think "The old man must be lost!"
So funny. That's EXACTLY how I feel when I go there too!

I really hate the heat. I often feel hot when everyone else (women mostly of course) is cold. I always have a fan pointing at my bed when I sleep, even in winter. That said I feel so lucky we haven't had a single hot day here in the Bay Area all summer. Sucks for my garden but I could have it this way every year.

Anybody know if the Thief collection will play on 64-bit multicore Windows 7?

Go Here

Here's an excellent thread to help with the Thief games. I've installed the fixes for T1 &T2, but haven't tried it for T3, as I don't have that one on steam. Anyway, it works great. Playing T1 with no problems.
Thanks. I've been through it getting it to play in XP with hyperthreading before but heard it was more difficult with Win7 x64. I was kinda hoping Steam somehow magically made those issues disappear.

3 different computers between work and home, 1 with Windows XP, 2 with Windows 7. And not one of them has ever been able to play any Vimeo videos. Neither MSIE or Firefox. What's up with that?

I guess the anti-downloading thing is why people seem to be using it more.

Last game I bought was Skyrim. In my old age 99% of the games out there don't interest me. Hey you games! Get off my lawn!

But I'm pretty bored lately so I think I'll pick up: Portal 2, Serious Sam 3, Maybe Bulletstorm but I'm gonna look for a demo first for that. Hell, I might even pick up Rage.

I hope they're on sale.

I kinda forgot about this game but I remember it looked like a return to the when SS was good and not at all like SS2 and I thought about getting it. But then strangely I've heard almost nothing about it since its release. So what is the consensus? Was it any good?

2. Beer can chicken Jul 1, 2012, 15:42 Ratty

Loved the article debunking beer can chicken. I've made a LOT of really bad chicken, but my beer can chicken is the best I have ever made. Perfectly juicy with a crisp skin done to perfection. But I've always been skeptical of the beer part of the equation, believing like the article it's merely the upright baking position that makes it great. I've tried a couple of vertical chicken roasters but it's hard to find one that keeps the chicken solidly upright and doesn't let it slump back down. The large size beer can shape and size is perfect for the task.

1. Re: No more fast forward Jun 20, 2012, 20:20 Ratty

I knew this was coming. Comcast has disabled fast forwarding on some of their VOD network shows for a couple of months now. The day they do it for shows saved on my DVR is the day I quit cable. But, in light of the previous article on Netflix stealing viewers away from VOD, it's hard to see this happening. But then again, when you have a virtual monopoly and own a network or two ...
