Reading the TNG article just really makes me sad to think they cancelled that show for make room for the horseshit that was Voyager. I've been watching Voyager on Amazon Prime, and it's just staggering how much worse of a show it is than TNG. The only really interesting episodes are the ones where people die and the whole ship gets destroyed, but you know that the big fat reset button will get hit at the end of the episode, and everything's back to normal in the next. Ugh.

Fuck you, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. Fuck you, fuck you, FUCK YOU!

Creston

Yeah, so everyone's going to hate me now but I loved Voyager and couldn't ever get into Deep Space 9. Voyager wasn't perfect (they really castrated the Borg and introduced then ruined Species 8472) but I still loved watching it.

Six months after my move I decided to let the cat out finally and he disappeared. Two days later I get a call from the old landlady that the cat had turned up there, almost 2 miles away. This is across a pretty busy city with some majorly busy streets.

I still have no idea how he could have done that. I read someplace they have an innate sense of time and a memory for the position of the sun and that's how they navigate.

Yeah, now that we're into fall it's definitely time to make some chili!
The chili turned out OK this time - not scorched, no weird taste - but it sure is boring. It's hot enough, it's just boring. Maybe some tomato paste next time to zest it up. I'm gonna look up Blue's recipe. I know I have it around here someplace.

I'm trying a new chili recipe today (a variation of one from ATK) that turned out bad when I first tried it last week. I think I scorched it and it tasted awful. But even though scorched I could tell it was way too mild so today I'm adding more super hot chipotles and a few more teaspoons of cayenne. There was only one time I ever made chili too hot - I called it Angry Chili because I went and made it mad. So I'm tempting fate again.

Bah. Has nothing to do with Islam. If our histories were exactly the same except they were Christian and we were Muslim they'd still be the violent woman-beating nutcases. The Bible is all over killing heretics and blasphemers. The Koran? Nada.

As much as I hate to side with those who are egging this stuff on nobody has a right not to be offended (who said that?). They can pass whatever fucktard laws they want in their own hellhole countries but don't be trying to tell us what we can and can't say here in the west.

Netflix and Hulu are useless. I can get all the latest movies and TV shows for free on DVD at the library.

I don't even have a DVD player in my house. And the closest library to me is 8 miles away. Not to mention Hulu is predominantly for TV shows, both classic and modern (a day after they air). Those aren't on DVD's at the library.

I love Netflix. Its biggest troubles can be laid squarely at the feet of movie and TV studios who overr-charge them for streaming licenses in order to put them out of business because they are a competitor, and they have a model that actually gives the customer what they want.
This. Comcast owns NBC and they have their own moneymaking VOD scheme so they are content-owners in direct competition with Netflix plus Netflix is beholden to them to carry their streams. As net neutrality gets increasingly watered down I see trouble ahead.

I'm thinking the studios want to get their own content delivery schemes set up now. Think of Netflix as Steam: they were the first and they had time to improve it into something people really love and the movie studios are the Blizzards and EA Origins starting to hawk their own crappy services. Too late to the party but they'll just take their ball and go home if people don't play by their rules.

Has Revolution started? Is it terrible?

Haha oh dear, well you asked! They aired the pilot on the web a few days ago and it is fucking terrible.
That's a shame. I read a review this morning where they compared it favorably to Terra Nova and Falling Skies (as in, those two shows are worse) but without the hokey, fake family drama. You know, the rebellious son who comes to accept and love his father. I hate that contrived shit.

By basic science foundations do you mean like "if all electricity stopped working why don't they die on account of our nerves and brains use electricity?" which I don't care about - sufficiently advanced technology being indistinguishable and all that. Or something more egregious?

Only one of those fallen sites I ever visited regularly was Voodoo Extreme. I never really liked it there for some reason. But it was all there was after my favorite Stomped changed from a gaming aggregator to on online gaming league. I was real sad about that. Then after a little bit at VE I discovered Blue News and never looked back.

Here's hoping Blues has many more years until it too appears on a list.

I tend to prefer turtling, which made a lot of the missions quite difficult (especially for ones like the mission where the firestorm was progressing over the planet).
Too funny. I stopped playing SC2 on that very mission. I really hate time limits in any game. Don't get me wrong, I loved SC2 and I mean to get back to it Real Soon Now. The terran campaigns were always my favorite, followed by the Zerg (never finished the Protoss in the original) but that fire planet one was too frustrating. I know I can finish it pretty easily but I want to get every secret and couldn't manage to do that no matter how many times I tried.

Reminds me of The Event for some reason. That was cancelled after a season. Why get invested in these mythology shows anymore? The article says the critics hate it anyway, who cares what sci-fi fans think. Yeah, I'll stay away for the first season and maybe check it out if it lasts into a second season. It's like these network premieres are for things to look forward to the following year. And yes I guess that makes me part of the "problem" but whose fault is that?

And then they make it harder just by doing the BS "you do less damage, enemies do more damage and have ten times the HP" routine.
Amen to that. In the original Thief games as you upped the difficulty more areas became accessible to you, but there were more enemies and some shadows were missing making sneaking more difficult. Plus the better ammo became much rarer. Painkiller did a pretty good job of it too. Let's see more creativity in difficulty levels please.

And about the article, the first author is on crack. Sure, let's take away more player choices cause I want you to play the game my way. Oh, and quicksave ruins games too so we didn't put it in so you're forced to have a more visceral experience.

The second author is on crack because he defends playing games on easy. What a moron. How about, I always play games on hard but the existence of Easy difficulty doesn't bother or affect me at all.

Like others I have long since lost interest in this project, but as one who has proclaimed publicly that this project was vaporware and would never be released I guess now it's time to admit publicly I was wrong. I may try it one day when its complete if the commmunity says it's worth it, but credit to the team I guess for actually sticking with it after all this time and releasing something.
After eight years, I doubt anyone still remembering it didn't have it at least partially filed under vaporware.
Nameless Mod was released 9 years after Deus Ex. I had forgotten about it too and assumed it was another mod that promised too much and fell apart. But it was such a nice surprise when it finally came out and I thoroughly enjoyed it (3 times).

Rather than criticize a team for taking so long I have to give them big props: keeping their vision alive for so long. I couldn't sustain something like that. I tend to give up on big projects after about a year.

I really liked the Xen sequence at the end of Half-Life (okay, the Super Mario/Gordon jumping was a tad annoying) because as awesome as Black Mesa was, one can only spend so much time in it before it becomes old hat. Xen was a perfect and much needed fresh angle, and suitably and deliciously foreign and alien. To me anyway - judging by the near universal dislike of the Xen levels it is clear I am in the distinct minority.
Wow! Someone else who liked Xen. I thought I was the only one!

Sugar is sugar. The only thing about HFCS that makes it worse than cane sugar is it's so much cheaper, and makes it much easier to to consume too much of it.

A console DLC. I doubt PC users are going to see much need for this. Honestly, I have zero problem with that. I am a PC user, but I will take the mod community, the CK, and the mods over DLC any day. Every single piece of DLC for this game could be console only and I wouldn't care. The community can do better and often does. (of course, you have to sift through the crap too, but hey..nothing is perfect!)
Absolutely true. There are quite a few excellent mods now for player homes, from the modest to the opulent. A few let you customize aspects of it, and at least one lets you build it from the ground up. It will be interesting to see how Bethesda's measures up to the best of the mods already out there.

Let the XBoxers have this one. I guess if I had to grump it would be that they're wasting time that could be spent on the next meaty, questy DLC.
