The game was a bit shorter than I was expecting - it took 12hrs with a mix of action and stealth. It's a bit disappointing after Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which was a similar sort of game but twice the length. That said, it seems like it will have a lot of replayability. Plot-wise I felt the game fell apart a bit towards the end and the impact of your choices wasn't as significant as I was hoping.

I've still got to complete Max Payne 3, which I kinda liked but found deeply irritating at the same time. At this point I'm really not interesting in GTAV, as I have very serious doubts that any effort will be put into the PC version and that they'll address the core issues that GTAIV had. The series peaked with Vice City and just hasn't been the same since.

Watchdogs looks much better than GTAV and really highlights how stale the GTA series has become.

Maybe the regular price is lower in the UK then? It is $59.99 here.
Yeah, it seems that's the case. The EU price is 50 / $64, so it does seem to vary by region. Very few games in the UK are ever priced above 30 (Skyrim (35 / $56) and COD (40 / $64) being the main ones).

People here are very intolerant of higher prices, which seems to be a definite factor.

Looks like the actual screenshot doesn't have as much color and the shadows look a lot sharper in the marketing image. Not a tremendous difference but there is a difference regardless.
Personally I prefer the look of the game to the marketing pictures, as the latter look oversaturated and slightly blurry. The lighting in the game changes, so that may be a factor as well.

A lot of us got it from GMG for $45 (with a coupon that's still good until tomorrow), but I still understand if you don't want to take a risk at that price.
In the UK the GMG deal worked out to 22.50 / $36. Even then I considered it a gamble but definitely worth it. The regular price is 30 / $48, so it's kinda surprising to see such a difference in price.

I'll be pretty occupied with Dishonored (which is awesome) and XCOM (which I've barely played so far), though I still manage to put some time into BL2.

Interesting...the current/game pics look more fuzzy and don't seem to have as much vibrance as the marketing pics do.
If you look at the screenshot I took here and the marketing image here (a surprisingly good comparison) then I'd argue the graphics are as good, if not better than the marketing material. My criticism is that it should be even better, as it looks a bit washed out in comparison to Borderlands 2 (another game with an alternative art style) - it's still very good but it should be better. To me the low-polygon models are much more of an issue and tessellation would certainly have helped.

I picked up XCOM and Dishonored, so I was torn between which to play. So I played an hour of each and then decided I was having more fun with Dishonored and stuck with that. It really is a great game. The more I play the more I see how I'd do it differently the next time around, which is unusual - I didn't find that with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Performance is great, the graphics are great (I took a few screenshots), the story is strong and the combat is unique.

In terms of criticism, I don't like the way the cutscenes take away control and add the fake-cinema border - it's unnecessary. I don't like the way each hub has a confirmation option before moving between them, especially when the load time is so small that they just aren't necessary. The PC version is very good overall, but there are some annoyances - the UI is a little cumbersome and the pop-up tutorials (of which there are a lot) require you to press Esc, rather than allowing any key (or just 'F', the use key). And even though I like the graphics, the models have pretty low polygon counts and the world textures can be a bit low resolution. Finally, the weapon/power system is poorly implemented - there are too many weapons and powers to choose from and you either stick with a few or have to pause the game and manually select a power each time (throwing off the pacing) - they should have used an alternate button to change ammo type and streamlined the powers. Crysis had a similar problem whereby it was so fiddly changing the powers it often wouldn't be worth the effort, whereas in Crysis 2 they streamlined them and it worked much better.

Buying Dishonored was a bit of a gamble but it definitely paid off. Very happy with it. If you enjoyed Deus: Ex Human Revolution then you should enjoy this.

I know what you mean. Part of the problem is that it looks like the skills a) slow down the game, and b) are gimmicky and unbalanced (like the 'possess rat' power). Still, I considered it to be worth a gamble because of the discount - I wasn't interested paying full price.

I picked this up using the 25% off voucher on GMG and look forward to playing it, though it will be competing with XCOM and Borderlands 2 for my play time.

Skyrim
Batman: Arkham City
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Max Payne 3
Civilization V
The Witcher 2
X-COM: Enemy Unknown
Metro: Last Light
Dishonored
Watchdogs
GTA V
Assassin's Creed 3
Dead Space 3
Crysis 3
Bioshock: Infinite
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Mass Effect 3
Portal 2
Total War: Shogun 2
Hitman: Absolution
Far Cry 3
SimCity
Tomb Raider
Dragon Age III

Sure not every title on there will appeal to everyone but that's a plenty big enough list. Diablo III was a great game but Blizzard shouldn't be making such ridiculous statements about the industry - we know they hate singleplayer games but based upon the sales figures for Skyrim and Batman: Arkham City I think it's fair to say that a few people still play singleplayer games and don't just pirate them.

News Comments > DICE Warns of Bans for BF3 Color Mod
20. Re: DICE Warns of Bans for BF3 Color Mod Oct 3, 2012, 23:45 theyarecomingforyou

I never bought BF3 - what with it requiring Origin and not being available on Steam - but I played the demo and was annoyed by how grey it all was, especially when there were the colour comparisons between the alpha and beta. It looks shit. Looking at that video it's clear that DICE took things WAY too far and that mod clearly makes the game look much better.

The reality is that mods like this wouldn't be necessary if developers didn't fuck around with colour palettes for artist effect. It's one thing to mute the colours slightly; it's another for the entire colour palette to consist of fifty shades of grey.

I've got plenty of Eridium to spend, but nothing I want to spend it on. It's even worse on your second run through - I was expecting to be able to buy more upgrades. Nope.
Bummer. I maxed out my upgrades by Level 30 and was hoping that something else would come along to spend it on.

Better weapon descriptions. It's really weird, sometimes you'll have a gun that says "uses 3 ammo", and it does, sometimes you'll have a gun use 3 ammo when it doesn't say it does.
Yeah, I came across that. I found what looked like a really awesome shotgun but when I went to use it I found it ended up consuming 4 ammo per shot, which is completely worthless to me. I'd also like it if they had a Diablo III style system where they tell you the amount of damage per second - sure different enemies have different elemental weaknesses but it's simply too hard to compare weapons as it is. Also, weapon accuracy seems to be affected by too many other stats that you can't rely on a weapon with a 98% accuracy actually being accurate - it might wobble a lot or have crazy amounts of recoil. The stats are pretty much the only thing you have to go on and they seem to be incredibly unreliable.

The worst sniper I picked up did 1250 damage elemental (pretty good for the level I was at) but consumed two ammo per shot and had burst fire while zoomed - worse still was that despite the stats it really wasn't that accurate. Luckily I picked up a 2250 damage sniper within about 10-15 minutes - no elemental but it was worth it.

Yeah, I play co-op with a couple of other players and after several missions we go and blow most of our money on the slots. You sometimes get a decent weapon but more importantly you get a bucketload of Eridium (maxed everything out by level 29) and some extra customisation options. It also means that if you die you don't waste as much money.

They need to make loot per-player (ala Diablo 3) rather than competitive - I'm actually surprised they didn't do this for BL2. And they need to secure it from hacking, preferably by implementing it via Steamworks to allow weapon trading outside of the game.

Oh, and I'd like to see some more variety in classes. I'm not impressed with the skill trees in BL2. Still, a sequel sounds like an obvious move.

It doesn't matter whether it's a FPS or TPS, it still looks terrible. It seems like a complete misuse of the franchise, unlike XCOM: Enemy Unknown which looks excellent.

The remake looks good to me. I'm glad that they're willing to make some small changes to update the game to modern expectations and it looks incredibly faithful to the original, so no complaints here. I'd be disappointed if they didn't offer discounts to existing owners on Steam but I unfortunately I imagine what they'll do is a pre-order bonus with the original game and allow it to be giftable.

I don't know whether I'll pick it up immediately - it depends on the price and what the final game looks like. More likely I'll wait for it to go on sale.

I'm optimistic about the game but I won't be pre-ordering it - there are just too many question marks I want to see answered. The pre-order bonuses are also weak sauce.

Most likely I'll pick it up when it goes on sale. I'll still be playing Borderlands 2 and then it won't be long before Far Cry 3 is released. The only way I might change my mind and buy it sooner is if it gets truly stunning reviews and user feedback.
