Yes, I agree; Crysis 1 definitely taxes my system more than Crysis 2 as well. Crysis 2 does look good (impressively for a console port), but Crysis 1 still looks better.
I wasn't really impressed with the graphics in the original Crysis - I thought both Crysis 2 and Far Cry 2 looked better. A lot of that is related to art direction. Don't get me wrong though, it was still a very good looking game.

Crysis 2:
Corridor
Alien tower

Crysis:
Forrest
Rocks

Far Cry 2:
Jungle
Desert

And the new visual king, Far Cry 3:
Citra
River
Jeep
Oasis

Wow, a GTX680 and i7 CPU recommended for hi-performance. I'm glad all requirements show DX11 though.
Crysis 2 was just the same. Heck, I actually get more framerate drops on the original Crysis at max settings and I have a GTX680 SLI setup.

At the moment Far Cry 3 is really pushing my current rig, though I'm pretty certain it's driver related and I'm sure a few patches will improve performance. To game at the top end - which franchises like Far Cry and Crysis have always been about - you need top specs.

Crysis 3 looks like it will be a decent game but it certainly looks a lot more linear than Far Cry 3 - hopefully that won't hurt game length. But if it's not on Steam then I'll pass, just like Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 and the upcoming SimCity - all games I would have otherwise bought at or near release. Hopefully EA will get the message at some point.

Finished Dishonored yesterday. While not perfect, it's one of my favorite games this year.
Dishonored was great; easily one of the best games of the year. However, I'm really liking Far Cry 3 at the moment and it could be my favourite game of the year, thanks in part to its incredible graphics.

If it really was 99% finished and the publisher decided to scrap it then it must have been a bloody appalling game for the publisher to effectively throw-away money. The guy is obviously talking out of his ass.

News Comments > Far Cry 3 Uplay Workaround
68. Re: Far Cry 3 Uplay Workaround Dec 1, 2012, 15:32 theyarecomingforyou

I'm in the UK and bought it from www.gamekeys4u.net - it sounds like a dodgy website but it has a very good score on TrustPilot and my brother and I both bought the game there and activated it on Steam without issue. It's annoying that Ubisoft has decided to mess things up with the Steam UK release but they did exactly the same thing with Far Cry 2 (it turned up around a week after launch).

As for the game, I'm really enjoying it so far. The graphics are exceptional and the gameplay is basically just Skyrim as a first person (i.e. it's brilliant). There are a few SLI / driver issues but I'm sure they'll be fixed promptly (at least SLI works, unlike Borderlands 2 at launch).

Here are a few screenshots:

Vass
Greenery
Hunting
Indoors

I've now rated 957 games and there are some real gems in amongst the mountain of dross. It's just a shame that some of the better looking games haven't yet been Greenlit when loads of shit games have.

I expect Valve will add achievements to the Winter Sale for rating games on Greenlight.

This. It would be a bizarre move if it's true and it would have a devastating effect on the enthusiast market. If AMD was to finally produce a decent CPU - and unfortunately that's a long shot at the moment - then people would quickly switch.

If the PC price is the same then I may pick it up but I'm not really a fan of time-trials as a gameplay mechanism, particularly not in a story-driven singleplayer game. That said, I'll be all over the singleplayer DLC.

10. Re: Max Payne 3 Painful Memories DLC Next Week Nov 27, 2012, 07:48 theyarecomingforyou

The cutscenes were grossly excessive and those that were pre-rendered were of such pathetically low quality that I actually thought the game was broken when I first played it. When you play at 2560x1600 and maxed out graphics and you're thrown into a cutscene at 1280x720 (if that - I'm really not sure) with low quality settings and no anti-aliasing then you REALLY notice the change. That and the gameplay gets a bit tedious at points.

I'll get around to completing it at some point but the reviews were overly generous. The Metacritic user score tells you the real story.

What didn't you like about the first one? If it was the combat, you should probably know that Witcher 2's combat is completely different. You have direct input for every attack, block, parry, etc.
Yeah. I really liked the concept of The Witcher but I couldn't really get into it; the Witcher 2 on the otherhand was superb, easily one of the best games I've played. It's worth grabbing even if you didn't complete the original or even enjoy it.

If they were to remake the original game with the new engine and mechanics I'd buy it in a flash. Unfortunately that project was scrapped.

10. Re: Far Cry 3 Map Editor Trailer Nov 27, 2012, 06:57 theyarecomingforyou

The map editor included in Far Cry 2 was excellent and it's a real shame that multiplayer never took off for it, as the potential was huge. I'm glad to see that they've taken things further with Far Cry 3.

I'm very much looking forward to this and the reviews have only increased my anticipation.

14. Re: No BioShock Infinite Multiplayer Nov 26, 2012, 12:28 theyarecomingforyou

Multiplayer would have been a waste of resources, as it wouldn't stand a chance against dedicated multiplayer games. Let's just hope they get the singleplayer right, as this game is starting to become a bit of a development disaster with all the delays and staff quitting.

Based on what I've seen so far it looks like it will be enjoyable but only worth picking up when it goes on sale - the gameplay looks very dated, especially after games like Dishonored, Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3. It's on my "maybe, if it gets good reviews" list.

I was just trying to pick up Dishonored at GMG, but it won't let me buy it. No buy button on the game's page, and the buy button that was on the front page just led to a 404 error. Now the game doesn't seem to show up at all, even when searching for it.
They seem to have removed the digital version and the DVD-ROM version is out of stock. Sounds like they've exceeded their allotment.

Anyway, I'm glad that the new King's Bounty went on sale. I'm a huge fan of the series but I couldn't justify the UK price when it's basically a rehash of the previous games. I was happy to grab it at 50% off and I've already sunk 5hrs into it. It's more of the same but that's good for me.

Btw, if Dear Esther comes around again (it was in the flash sales) then I highly recommend it. It's short and it doesn't have any interaction or combat, but the atmosphere is excellent and it's really original. I took a few screenshots: Night Sky; Wilderness; Beach but they really don't do it justice; you really have to play it to understand.

DangerDog wrote on Nov 22, 2012, 15:17:
Nice effort but I would think the main reason that consoles are 60 to 65 is it creates an artificial zoom effect, it's less about the peripheral view and more about the focal distance and wanting to make things on the TV screen bigger / easier to see.

the boost in FPS performance can't be ignored either.
As the video points out, 60-65 is actually the optimum FOV for consoles. The performance boost and zoom effect are simply bonuses.

Nice to know they'll let Dice go back to a non-BF IP.
More likely this is a separate studio with the same name, like EA did with BioWare. It can't be the main studio, as they're working on BF4.

I'd love to be excited about this, as I really enjoyed the original. Unfortunately this is EA we're talking about, so it won't be available on Steam and they're pretty good at fucking up franchises.
