I've never used onboard.

I had friends in the early to mid 2000s that thought the noisy bad onboard sound back then was "good enough" (until they got a dedicated card..), and while onboard today might be much improved - I still cannot take anyone seriously that swears by onboard..

News Comments > Syndicate FPS Trailer

Taken on it's own, it looks entertaining. But with all current FPS\action titles my excitement is muted till I actually play it. Been there done that.

If I was looking at an isometric remake of the original syndicate with beautifuly drawn\rendered HD graphics, I'd be over the moon. But these games only share a name and a general "theme"..and I guess some remixed music?

So yeah, all the best to this "version" of a much better game.

I haven't played Frozen Synapse in a while.

I haven't played *insert any indie game* in a while is how I feel everytime I get sucked into plunking down my money for these sorts of games.

Yesterday I shut FF down only to discover it remained memory resident consuming 900mb of RAM..

While I think Firefox is a memory hog, and their version naming has jumped the shark - most of the problems I've had with it are caused by various media player plugins like Flash. I'm not sure if this is Adobe's fault or FF.

The First Syndicate had a world map. That was my entire point.

So what?
It's like some of you will only be happy if you get pixel-for-pixel remakes.
This is moving so far away that we probably won't even get a map. We'll get a game similar in tone and concept. It will probably be fun, given that it's being handled by a pretty solid developer. It will probably be one of the better FPGs games of its launch year.

And people will still cry and moan that the cars no longer look like eggs.

Moron. Think. An isometric top down tactical game becomes a FPS. Can you not understand why this would throw people.

I dont see a reason for this mod. There is already ACE2, which is as realistic as it can get

PR is a gamemode like Warfare. It's the gamemode people want.

The "problem" with ACE2 is that it's a realism mod, with no gamemodes. And unless you're part of a community that schedules games and creates it's own missions you won't get much out of it. It's not easy hopping onto a random server and having instant fun. But then that's not an ACE2 problem, that's just ArmA generally. The players 'make' the game.

Personally I don't like any of the gamemodes with dialog boxes where I spawn objects etc. I like to keep things simple and get straight to the difficult easy-to-die gameplay ArmA is good at.

The last bastion of tactical shooters that offer a real challenge. Bugs, lack of imagination by developers etc notwithstanding.

The video game development industry is broken, period.

I worked in advertising for years doing graphics. Home of the all nighter. My friends who work in film describe similar circumstances - the one key difference was that film workers were unionised were as digital artists are not.

Look, you want to work for Crytek and have it on your resume, and get the satisfaction of being part of a highend gaming company - awesome. Expect to pay a price for it though.

It's a crapshoot really with these fields. Some people are able to withstand potentially burning out eventually gaining job titles, real responsibility and in turn less direct dog work. Other's just plain burn out and never progress in the company, then leave.

After a decade doing computer graphics I choose my jobs now based on their ability to provide me with full time work (non freelance) so I can focus on doing stuff after hours and getting away from the PC rather than worrying about where the next job is coming from, and how often I'll be working after 5pm. Working for the "cool" companies is not a factor.

As someone who enjoys 8 hours a day in an office with people ceaslessly dropping 4chan speak in person "lol", "derp", "fail" rather than communicate like human beings - I say fuck off to 4chan references.
