News Comments > PC Virtua Tennis 4 This Summer
7. Re: PC Virtua Tennis 4 This Summer Mar 30, 2011, 18:20 Dmitri_M

I was living in the jungle at the time so in jungle currency I recall it being twice the price as a normal cart.

Yeah, from wiki:
"Due to the complexity of the Model 1 board, a home console version seemed unlikely, until 1994 when a cartridge design incorporating the Sega Virtua Processor on an extra chip was created to enable a version on the Mega Drive/Genesis. It was more expensive than other games, initially retailing at 70 in the United Kingdom and US$100 in the United States. Despite being severely scaled down, it was still technically impressive, and was very well received by reviewers. It was the only game to ever use the SVP."

I remember being blown away having those graphics at home. Especially the ferris wheel rotating in 3D alongside the track.. It was modelled with an incredible 12 or so polygons

There must be some issue with the control panel, seen one or two similar problems reported with it. However the games are working fine, and I'm too lazy to replace the driver.. so..i'll be avoiding the control panel till I need to use it I guess and end up rolling back

Personally i'd like to see a new Vice City game.

Are the 90s old enough now to have a 90s themed GTA?

What sets the 90s apart? This is a serious question as I've never really been able to figure it out. I dunno...grunge & flannel, I guess?

I always think of early 90s violent debase films like Robocop 2 and Natural Born Killers. Over the top news reporters, Rodney King, detached fuck everything people. It was a pretty grungy (as in gritty and grimy, not the music) time coming out the 80s. The second half though, from about '96 to 2000 on the other hand is completely vague and indistinct to me.

but I've been waiting for one that sorta goes back to the Shogun roots.

I loved the original Shogun.

I only very briefly tried Medieval, or was it Rome? Can't recall. Didn't like it.

Either way I haven't played any of the Total War titles since Shogun 1, yet I'm really enjoying Shogun 2. It does not feel overly complicated, I'm getting the same "feel" I did with the first title.

A PC technology is holding back PC game graphics?

Give me a break. The titles that have the budget to looking amazing on the PC are not developed for the PC, they're developed for the "10 times weaker" consoles.

This isn't all maths and engine development. It's 70% art resources developed with consoles in mind. You model something with thousands of polys less\low res textures because that's all consoles can handle. I can only afford cinderblocks for my house not marble.

I get your point. But I'd prefer a standard FPS (scripted I suppose?) corridors and crafted mission approach than yet another open world title.

All these scenarios you talk about are great, but in reality they're pie in the sky and it'd turn into just another GTA clone.

I hope the next one is open-world where the targets have their own daily schedules and routines and adapt to the choices you make throughout the game. That would certainly justify the lengthy dev cycle.

Sarcasm I hope
Let's rather have some quality missions like the previous games. Open world = open arsehole to every STD riddled cock worldwide.

Ain't no curse. People who can't act very well usually end up in shows that get cancelled.
