If you guys keep mentioning Heat I'm gonna be forced to buy this.

And I don't even think it looks that good, looks like it's got that watered down L4D gunplay thing happening.

To deny this game is shaking the foundation of gaming is completely naive.

You must be new to gaming.

A great game today is one that's on par with a title released 10 years ago. Best you can expect is no "progress".

This and Bastion are the kind of games I used to buy right away because they're different and cheap, then never play. I have finally taught myself to resist.

Yeah. I've also built up a resistance to these sorts of titles, and indies generally.

Also I'm disturbed about the callousness of murdering non combatants.

That's about the only thing I liked in that video. The thing I remember most about Syndicate was how brutal the gameplay could be, the dread of the approaching agents, civvies getting mowed down in crossfire.

Was in London for a weekend recently. Pouring with rain I had the hood of my jacket up. Stepped into the entrance of a public art gallery with a crowd of other people avoiding the rain. Security guard instantly came over and told me to pull the hood back. Guess the CCTV camera couldn't see my face.

A fellow South African mailed me that cyclist video last night. Thing was sitting at 200 views. Right now it's at 2+ million. Yes I am still amused by the viral nature of the internet even though I shouldn't be having been on the internet since the 90s...

At least console gamers, while they accept lesser quality stuff, are not a bunch of fuktards.

You must be a troll to make such a sweeping pointless statement. Disappear.

There is no excuse for having a game unplayable at launch for large numbers of users on common setups. It shouldn't even be acceptable to say "we'll patch it shortly after release", particularly when it prevents people from playing at all.

Sure but the games you mentioned weren't all completely unplayable.

It's quite sad really. Deus Ex, Dead Island, Rage, Red Orchestra 2, BF3 Beta game launches...these are all indicative for the state of PC Gaming.

And BF3 is a beta so one might expect problems?

Technical issues don't bug me as much as bland game design. Post release patching is fine if the game shows signs of being created with passion.

The industry is throwing money into artistic resources and little else. A bunch of artists handed some concept sketches, executing it, then a bunch of designers string it together into a "game".

I'm not buying Rage because I bought Metro 2033 a while back and haven't gotten around to playing it yet and I think it's more of a PC game.

Thankfully indies are still putting out fun titles, but corporatism has completely fucked this industry.

Urg. I wish people would stop bringing indies up as the salvation of PC gaming. PC gamers are complaining about a lack of "serious" high budget PC titles. A two man indie title cannot return us to 2000. Most indie titles are designed to sell well on XBLA as cheap purchases. I have no idea what that has to do with wishing that mid to large size studios were producing "proper" PC titles uncorrupted by all the cookie cutter console influenced titles. Is it that indies are somehow "cool" and apart from the studios? Ok great, but they're still not the sorts of games we wish were produced today.

40. Re: RAGE Interview Oct 5, 2011, 05:41 Dmitri_M

The texture resolution problem irks me with console ports. Dead Space for instance where the engine could handle higher resolution textures but the developers didn't work towards a standard that looks good on PC monitors, rather settling for a lower resolution that looks good enough on a television 2 meters from you while playing on a console.

However, Dead Space was a really good game. So I could overlook the console caused issues. ID beyond providing fantastic framework for multiplayer have never been good at creating truly compelling games. Unless you're happy with mid 90s doom style corridor shooting in 2012.

The technicalities don't irk me as much as the bland nature of the game highlighted in many reviews.

I have too many unplayed purchased titles that actually look fun. I think this will be the first ID game I skip purchasing. Sad since I have so many good ID related memories from my youth.
