It's funny how the Modern Warfare 2 hullabaloo has suddenly spawned new stock conspiracy theories to apply everywhere. No mod support? They're going to push ten sets of overpriced DLC on us, obviously! No dedicated server? It's forced consolization, not just a terrible decision! It's funny how people are clueless. Dragon Rising is "competing" against another game that has great modding support, a dedicated server and no DLC carrots. Not without it's own problems, that game is ArmA 2, not MW2.

What kinda fucktard is left playing PC games that can't figure out a server browser? I thought they all moved on to consoles. Well WE didn't. Listening to that Bash audio stream, they have some console guy on there who was obviously apathetic about all this and responded with "well it sounds like you guys will be moving over to consoles". It wasn't meant in a malicious way. PC gamers are either on an ever shrinking island, or besieged by hordes of zombies. I can't decide which.
Anyhow, I'm gonna go browse EZQuake's server list and play some deathmatch and hopefully forget about this title.
And to those defending IW. Shrug, why aren't they just honest about the reasons for dropping dedi servers. It sure ain't cause of hackers
Modern Warfare 1 was loved by PC gamers with very little "nerd rage" directed at it. Upto now the same held true for MW2. I think for once the "outrage" is legitimate.

| And so begins the leading upto release vague PR statements that imply the chance of dedicated servers. Once it goes on sale with matchmaking, vagually positive turns to silence. |

Response: "Hey everyone! We know you're used to dedicated servers but peer 2 peer hosting is much more accessible and just like Xbox Live! Trust us, it's great!" Sad thing is that's basically what Mr Bowling was stonewalling the hosts with on that podcast. |

| I don't really get why players find the graphics good. They're really washed out. Clearly post processed to hell and gone to disguise the quality of the blurry textures. |

Personally I much prefer regenerating health... collecting health packs was always annoying Some of you are missing the point on the regenerating health debate. The most vocal complaints came from players of titles that had NO "health boxes" to begin with. Rainbow Six for example.
Regenerating health was added which made these games much, much easier. Gone was the tension and the challenge.
If that's what the masses prefer, fine. But let's not beat around the bush, it's the purest form of dumbing down out there. |

They don't relate.
Dedicated servers aren't an antiquated gameplay feature players are pining for out of nostalgia. This is a technical matter. Serious MP games currently and in the future will feature dedicated servers.

I Love regenerating health. The market has shown that the majority of gamers also agree. Just because you dont personally like a feature doesnt mean its not popular, or a sensible decision for IW to go with it. How does a lack of dedicated servers equate to regenerating health? |

He said in the podcast twice that IW is hosting all public matches. He didn't sound like he knew much about PC gaming. I doubt whether he grasps what "host" actually means. If they're actually hosting the games in the dedicated server sense why say there won't be any dedicated server application? He's saying no dedicated servers so one assumes no centrally hosted games.
His idea of host is likely meant in the tupperware party sense, lets-get-together-and-match-make-a-game kinda "host".
Unless IW plan to establish 100s of their own dedicated servers across NA, Europe, Australia, Asia and South America (I'd include Africa in that but I'm a realist), which I really don't see happening.
Peer to peer or whatever it is, it's gonna suck. End of story.

In South Africa we have a very active COD4 community. Our connections can't cope with peer to peer hosting, and we're too far geographically from anywhere to get decent pings. No dedicated servers = death to our community. Public matches on official maps will be hosted, so you should be fine. This just means playing on unofficial maps or with tweaked settings will be harder.
I think you're misunderstanding why people are upset about this.. As I understand it IW's servers are only handling matchmaking of the peer to peer games. Even if IW did actually host games, where would these servers be located? Far from us. Without a dedicated server we're left with no reliable way to host games..

Disaster.
In the interview Rob "Clueless Marketing Dude" Bowling keeps repeating that the console MP experience is so much easier and that replacing dedicated servers with matchmaking makes "the experience more accessible". Do they not understand that PC users grasp dedicated servers and server lists? This is how we do things.

| Never been a fan of the predator. A man in a suit with a ruptured vagina for a face and laser beam on his shoulder. The alien and the marine have clear weaknesses and strengths making their gameplay interesting. I want this game to be good. |

The editor looks nice, it seems to be somewhat similar in design to BIS's. It's an external app. Which also means there's none of the instant design --> instant play, as with OFP\ArmA's built in editor. Dragon Rising needs to load each time you want to play the mission.
The big problem is the game doesn't allow more than 63 entities at any one time..
Placing 4 groups of twelve men, two vehicles and a couple of objects and you've reached that limit. Very uhh..limiting.
Dragon Rising's limited editor\currently encrypted game files is partly why ArmA fans are sour on Codemaster's attempt. They don't just see the "Operation Flashpoint" brand as a campaign, they see it as a sandbox military game that's extremely open to all kinds of modding and easy creation of missions.
In ArmA I can edit missions directly on the server while other players are connected, the minute I preview everybody is instantly taken to the lobby. I've never even bothered with ArmA 2's campaign..and I don't much want to.
