Why not take the higher paying job?

You also get a 50% pension for life with that federal job... right? That should be a pretty large factor.

Really? I think you're thinking of military and police. Most civilian feds get a 1% monthly annuity on highest 3 years pay that's $12,000/yr for a person making $100,000) plus whatever you put into your TSP (401k equivalent). Richer than what you get at your average company, but the main draws are probably the health benefits and job security - things which don't exactly attract the best people.

It's understood that the government underpays - especially for top talent. What generally happens is that top talent begin their careers in government to net lucrative private gigs later on (see federal prosecutors).

You know the game stinks on ice whenever:

1. It's Blizzard's new IP, I mean come on.. BLIZZARD!
2. It's a new genre for them (FPS)
3. It has supposedly borrowed from the Titan game

and yet... nobody seems to care one damn bit about the game.

Good lord that looked boring and slow. Like they captured the unfun parts of a MOBA and made them first person.

Some of the characters are more interesting than others. I got hyped for this game after watching Mcree.

Good video. Makes you realize how much more brutal the Ostfront was. 7 out of 8 German soldiers killed were killed fighting the Soviet Union. There were also more Soviet (or German) non civilian casualties at Stalingrad than either USA's or Great Britain's total casualties for the duration of the war!

Ugh I hate the trend of monochromatic Warhammer armies. Bring back the colorful pageantry of the old Empire designs please.

Cossacks II was kind of boring because it was exclusively the Napoleonic era which, while great, is overdone. I loved the original Cossacks. Can't wait for the next installment!

These Forbes blog things lend a bit of authority/professionalism where they shouldn't. Just some blogger dude. Not a real "Forbes" article.

He is absolutely correct in his assessment of the situation though.

No he's not and neither are you. Just don't use the Steam store in that case, plenty of other sites to grab mods from. Problem solved. This is a total non-issue, and it's laughable some of you are trying to turn it into one like this ridiculous op-ed.

This from the Blue's News' resident king of hyperbole.

I actually think he's right. That said, I don't think paid mods will take off even if it works for skins/maps. It's just too stupid of an idea.

I'm pretty positive I'm in the minority on this, but I really don't want a WH RTS game. I'd rather have a turn-based version that's a pretty faithful conversion of the miniatures game.

I like:
* Building an army under a certain number of points and having to decide my strategy before the battle ever starts
* Not getting new units and having to work with what I got
* Going through the different types of turns (move, attack, magic)
* Formations, flanking
* Using structures defensively (as opposed to something in my way)
* Gambling on distance to strike or retreat

Why can't they make a game like this?

It would eat into Games Workshop's minatures sales. A $50 game could replace thousands of dollars worth of codexes, paints, and minis. It was amazing that they let SSI get away with it in Final Liberation and Chaos Gate.

Not 40k, not interested.

Neh, speak for yourself . I'm skeptical, but excited. WHFB was my first love (High Elves) and the only RTS games in that universe are Dark Omen and (eccchhh) Mark of Chaos. 40K fans have plenty of options.

Just to remind everyone..
July 27, 2010 .. Star Craft 2 release date
We have
March 19, 2015 !

5 years for 2 expansions.. that's just sad.

March 12, 2013 was the Heart of Swarm release date (a lofty 3 years for 1 expansion)

So is Blizzard just REALLY slow, or are they developing this on the backburner with like 5 people?

My guess is the later given how little Blizzard promotes it. SC2 pretty much ended up being the last gasp of the once great RTS genre and the suits saw it too.

List of nominees for those interested (needed some digging): http://lzygmrs.com/general/golden-joystick-2014-awards-nominees-revealed/4865/

Pewdiepie sucks, but that list of nominees was full of total unknowns. If you're going to nominate people only known by gaming journalists, then restrict the voting to journalists.

Wait, you think only journalists know:
Anita Sarkeesian
Palmer Lucky
Aisha Tyler (she's frickin' Lana Kane)
Dean Hall
Rami Ismail

Seriously?

Ok, so I might have glossed over Aisha Taylor, Dean Hall (if you put DayZ next to his name) and Anita Sarkeesian (who I only know from GamerGate), but I honestly had no idea about the rest

I actually gave it another go after some friends signed up. The PvE aspect is a joke, but I definitely see the PvP having a lot of potential what with mounted combat, collision, etc. My brother and I had a lot of fun last night pushing afks into mobs and trapping people inside buildings thanks to the collision!

I like PoE. The materia system took some getting used to, but it does add a ton of depth and customization. My beef? The drops. D3 drops a legendary every 5 minutes, but PoE is 2x stingier than D2. At least low-mid level uniques/gems are obtainable through trading - they're very cheap in standard league - so the game is a lot of fun to someone who just wants to blast through the 3 act campaign on Normal and Cruel by themselves.

PoE's writing/story (or lack thereof) is also 10000000000000000000000000000x better than D3's.

Yeah, first thought was Barbarian Invasion. Late Roman Empire. The Internet collectively yawns. I'll buy it when it's 90% off on Steam. Maybe.

At least they're supposedly bringing back family trees, the thing is, why am I paying for a stripped feature through DLC in the first place? It will probably be handled poorly like in Shogun 2 where it's just window dressing anyway.

Also, Rome 2 was pretty lousy at handling horse archers despite clumsily adding in the Parthian shot. I doubt they'll make additional improvements for the Huns.

Most sports aren't even sports. They're glorified hobbies. Baseball, golf, et al. are all hobbies IMO.

Eh, baseball requires some pretty phenomenal athletic ability, both in terms of sheer physical prowess and in terms of mechanical skill. No, it does not involve a lot of running back and forth, but I find it really hard to watch a short stop make a successful diving catch, spin onto a knee, and then make an accurate, fast throw in a split second to make the double play, and then, having watched such a feat, turn around and liken the game in which it occurred to darts, pool, or golf.

Baseball is a hobby. Football, hockey, soccer, etc. are all sports.

Baseball is a sport, numbnuts.

I can't make it past the character creation screen. All the faces are too otherworldly beautiful with long gorgeous eyelashes. I like to make my characters to, you know, look like they've actually been been in a swordfight.

Pass.

EA just needs to make good games on the cheap (god, what a concept) instead of wasting shareholder money on some hotshot marketing guy who's just going to pull stuff out of his butt anyway. They could even use the extra money to hire more PR guys!

Gamebreaking bugs meant that Heroes 6 didn't work for me more than a short time. The demo worked perfectly well though. HOMM3 is far superior to anything before or after. And it's cheap on GOG.

HOMM3>HOMM2>HOMM4>HOMM1>HOMM5>HOMM6

So I don't have high hopes for #7.

I agree with that ranking, except I'd put HoMM4 in second place. I know it's the bastard child, but I really looooove HoMM4. The best campaign stories and music in the series IMO.
