yes, "transition is your friend" try telling that to a software developer who toiled through endless crunch time, 16 hour days, 7 days a week, never seeing friends/family.

These days it just seems as becoming a game developer is not the way to go. You're much safer doing a business analyst or PM job.

I know lots of non-game developers and programmers who work 8-9 hour days and no weekends.

The obvious Blade Runner aside, I think one of the best cyberpunk movies was actually Strange Days ...

Strange Days is good b/c it was directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark 30) and written by some dude name James Cameron. Having writers and directors who know what they're doing helps.

While Cargill and Derrickson don't have the best track record (Sinister was just okay), I know Cargill is a huge geek who has spent decades steeped in the geek culture. He loves the material, so there's hope he'll really treat the story as a labor of love. I'm hoping this turns out good.

I'm surprised 1up lasted this long, actually.

Agree though, it's an end of an era.

That's not how the Republican party as a whole is, pretty wide generalization there. It has good and bad apples just like the Democrats. Let's not pretend the Republican party is the only one with some baggage here, there are plenty of left leaning groups I would consider to be on Becks/Tea Party level of idiocy. I'm a pretty moderate Republican and I think Beck is a crazy moron, the trouble is the media keeps giving him an outlet and the audience that comes with it.

Actually, no. "Both sides do it," is false equivalency. The Dems are your garden-variety corrupted party. The Repubs are a radical extreme party pushing agendas that the vast majority of Americans disagree with. There may be liberal groups that are batshit crazy, but they are the fringe and irrelevant. Beck/Tea Party are the mainstream of the party and control it. Even more moderate Republicans parrot Tea Party rhetoric to avoid being primaried from the right.

So some people are born for disastrous outcomes. This is something Beck is totally not looking at, the science that matters the most, the persons genetic brain.

We can't have a world that everything falls under "if one person f's it up, we all lose it", because you end up with nothing.

Can we reign back some yes. But to make this a black and white case is absurd. To be anti game and pro gun in that manner is absurd. Hell those laser pointers have a Federal Ban on them and guns don't. Which is potentially more dangerous? Neither does it's bad thing without a human driver. Pretty funny the laser light is banned... Killed perhaps not a person to day.

Beck doesn't care about science. He cares about ratings and money, and that's all.

If the second amendment weren't in the constitution, I'm sure guns would be much more restricted then they are, especially in more liberal states like Cali and the northeast. Just like lasers.

Guns without violent games will still result in 1000s of murders in the US, like they did in the 1970s. Violent games without guns lead to no murders, like they have in Japan currently (4 to 10 gun murders per year while playing the same amt or more violent games than the US does).

Washington state didn't make Beck any more than Beck made Beck. Roger Ailes did.

Your comment made me laugh though.

Also agree with that Bab 5 was great. That's how DS9 SHOULD have been! (Although DS9 had its moments).
I'd be interested to hear you explain this more fully. I really liked both B5 and DS9 (I have them both on DVD). Both had series arching stories lines and characters that were developed over time. Were there just more characters you liked in B5 or something?

I think that the central characters are more interesting to start, especially the aliens. G'kar, Londo, and Delenn are both well drawn and wonderfully acted, and I liked O'Hare as Sinclair (Boxleitner was good too, but Garibaldi was just okay). Also, I just thought the B5 world-building was more interesting (which sounds strange given how deep the ST universe is). The tensions between the Narn and Centauri were great, as was the relationship btw the humans and Minbari, not to mention the Vorlons and the Shadows. There is always lots of mystery, drama, distrust, double crossing, etc. going on which makes for great story telling.

On the DS9 side, I thought Sisko, Kira, Dax, and O'Brien were well done, but couldn't really stand Bashir, Odo, or Quark. There were some good stories, like some of the Cardassian, Dominion war, and Jem Hadar epis, but I just thought the wormhole was too much of a deus ex machina with regards to providing plot lines.

I liked both, but definitely B5 better. Not that it matters too much, but B5 has an 8.2 on IMBD, while DS9 has a 7.8.

I reviewed a previous installment of the series and it was most definitely an arcade game.

Oh, that's too bad. So, more like HAWX than Dirt 2?

We basically know that, unless there is a huge surprise, we'll get more of the same.

We sort of know...It's a AMD pc, disguising as a console. Will be the same I hear from MS. When that is announced, the 15 year old fight is over. PC's did in fact win, the console became a close PC.

Wherein Pachter is fired, and Horrorscope is hired. Nice analysis sir!

Here are the good features, IMO:

- Great specs. It makes sense to use off the shelf PC parts for this given how powerful they've become and the familiarity of so many devs with working on the architecture. This was a huge problem with the PS3 and its cell proc.
- Sleep state with instant resume. Nice feature.
- Touch screen on the controller has possibilities.

These strike me as gimmicky, and or not very useful:

- video compression to allow players to share gameplay.
- AI that "learns" your likes and dislikes and DLs stuff for you.
- Gaikai integration
- Moderators that allow grant broadcast control to players
- Remote play on a Vita
- Content creation on using the Move controller.

Other thoughts:
Great win for AMD to be able to supply both the CPU and GPU for this system. It might be like hosting the Olympics, but it really give them great exposure and marketing. Hopefully they didn't give the farm away for the opportunity.

Good points Cutter. This sounds like it has potential. Finding the right balance between arcade and sim is important. Dirt 2 had the right balance: enough sim to have a learning curve and be challenging, but forgiving enough to be fun. HAWX was way too arcadey, and it sucked. Hopefully this game gets it right.

I for one have had just about enough "Modern Warfare", I'm ready for them to go back to WWII.
Actually, this is a good point. At this point, new versions of CoD or BF seem just like map packs, much of the gameplay and settings are the same. I'd really like to see them go back again to WWII with the graphics/tech they have today or to a future setting. Modern warfare is getting old and rehashy imo.

I'd like to see them go into the future, like they did with BF 2142. WW2 is really played out, although a Korean war version might be cool. Not sure there's enough there to justify a whole game though.

BF2 is def still the gold standard. It's sad to see the game dumbed down and the shitties netcode ever implemented. Unless they specifically state they have revamped the netcode, they can keep BF4 and any other versions they want to pump out.

Eye candy only goes so far....

Basically this. BF2 is the one I've put in the most time into, and I own them all. The latter ones have fun SP campaigns, but lack of mod support really hurts their longevity. BF2 with all the mods out for it is where the fun is to be had, esp AIX and Project Reality.

Sometimes while shopping, BB will actually have a price lower than Amazon (very rarely). I gladly pay $5-$10 more to buy from Amazon even at the higher price. I don't have to drive to BB, I don't have to be hassled by salesmen or shoppers, have warranties or cable sales pushed on me, and my item is delivered right to my door. Even if Amazon had sales tax, I most likely will not set foot in BB.

Not to mention, you will most likely spend an hour or two in the store arguing with managers over whether the model you are pointing to on Newegg is the same model in stock at BB.

On the other hand when something goes wrong an Amazon delivery, a common enough tale for things like televisions, you're often left to deal with it over the course of weeks instead of hours. I don't really care if they want to push silly things on me, I'm an adult and I just say politely but firmly say no. I think some things are great to buy from anywhere but there is some value in the Best Buy return policy.

I agree, I used to get my cameras there for this reason. But now I don't b/c BB has done such a crappy job managing itself that I don't know if they'll even be around in two years when I need to take said camera in for servicing.
