And by looking at this list, DNF has either got to be the most spectacular FPS game every made in the history of PC gaming, or a complete and total failure. There cannot be any middle ground on this.

Of course I'm serious. I know there is a large group that is just having fun throwing monkey-doo at this game every time it is mentioned, but think about it. The antic that took place in the original were funny, back in the early 90's. It's about to turn 2007 now, the in game jokes aren't funny any more, they're old and worn out. The dev's are probably spending more time re-writing the game so at least some of the humor may seem somewhat modern, if they are actually working on it at all. I was really looking forward to this game, back in '99. But after games with action like FEAR, the humor in games like the NOLF series, graphics like HL2, upcoming games like STALKER and the plethora of other titles, how can anyone even consider looking at it now other than out of some morbid curiousity.

Now that the FPS gamers have matured, it is almost assured when/if this game ever does see the light of day its antics will seem childish compared to todays modern shooters. Time to close the doors on this one kids, even if it is released it probably won't be worth the effort (or money) to play it.

The old saying "It's time to chew gum and kick ass" is getting old, and lame.

I actually found the game entertaining myself. Sure it wasn't a deep thinking, non-linear game, and sometimes thats exactly what I want to play, a good ol' fashioned shooter, plain & simple.

It would work fundamentally buy not purchasing any of their future products made for the PC. Currently they are relying on UT2007 to hold up their PC fan base, but I am beginning to wonder about that. The first screen shots and trailers we've seen of UT2007 look very compelling, however the more recent screen shots and latest trailer looked more like UT2004, and to this day I still prefer the game play of the original UT over UT2004. We were promised more "in your face" style game play with UT2007, to be a faster style similar to the original UT, but I did not see anything even remotely close to that in their latest trailer. If UT2007 bombs, and GoW is not released for the PC, the money CliffyB is used to spreading around at strip clubs may slowly begin to disappear.

They damn well better release it for the PC, because I sure as heck am not going to buy a console, any console, for just one game no matter how cool a game it is. C'mon Epic, step up to the plate, us PC gamers are the ones that put you where you are today, and we sure as hell are capable of putting you back on the bottom if we need to.

Interesting, I never had this issue over the weekend. I fired up Steam and began my yearly October sabbatical into the game "They Hunger" once again. It let me right in to play, but then its a HL mod, not HL2, but I do use Steam to play it. They Hunger is still a blast after all this time.

I have some industry connections, and I've signed an ND agreement so I can't really say anything TOO specific, but I CAN say that not only is the Phantom NOT dead, it's going to be coming out real soon, and the first game for it is going to be an EXCLUSIVE title, and while I can't tell you the NAME of that title, let's just say that it has a little something do ... with the subject of this thread.

Since this is a free game, I wonder if we might see a major decompression in the amount of Wolf-ET servers, which is a free game as well. Well, except for all of those playing it with Pentium III's and GeForceMX cards still.
