Congrats, you got it!

Yeah I know, it was mean of me and I'm the slime of the earth. But then again, you already knew that.

If bullet proof vest where not so damn expensive I would buy you one as a joke. As I have that sick sense of humor.
If I were you that's not where I'd recommend to wear it.

The parents could have sealed the thing in a titanium vault, but for a family member that should be easy to get by. So they might have well done everything in their power (and then some) to prevent him from getting access.

Then again, legally they are probably still in heavy doo-doo.
If the kid got to the gun they are responsible. Period. If they can't gurantee that he doesn't get to it they shouldn't have it in the first place.

How the hell does a kid get ahold of an AK-47!
That's a really good question.

1. Good morning! Oct 8, 2006, 11:54 Cynips

Had to return the rental car by 8:00AM, so here I am already sipping on a cup of coffee and reading Blues.

Have my B-present from yesterday beside me: a Razer Mantis Control mouse pad. Now I just have to dare the switch from my Logitech MX510 to the woot-bought Razer Copperhead. Didn't post anything yesterday since we spent the whole day at Six Flags Magic Mountain, meeting up for the first time with a bunch of ppl who play HL2DM at the whiskey-town servers. Not a single of us under the age of 30 unless you count our 1 and 2 y/o kids. Nice ppl, nice weather and cool rides made for an awesome day!

Of course, balance issues don't stop me from playing HL2DM almost nightly.
Well, that was supposed to be my suggestion. Once you've gone HL2DM with physics and gravity gun it's difficult to imagine playing without it.

Oh, two hour? I guess they may need that to catch peoples' interest again after the bleak season 2 ending.

I just happen to have a fUnc sUrface 1030 which, however, is getting worn out. Has served me well over the years though. Will probably get one of the Razer Mantis Control ones since they seem to get great reviews and are significantly larger, which is nice and needed for the wife's gaming style.

Have the blue Saitek Eclipse and it's a nice keyboard even though the backlit feature is pretty much useless. Looks cool though and the keyboard has a nice feel to it and I like the overall outline of it. The letters quickly gets erased from playing, but if you're a touch typist like me it's just a cosmetic thing.

41. Re: Fall Sep 22, 2006, 18:42 Cynips

Astronomically, Autumn begins with the autumnal equinox on Sept. 23, 2006, 12:03 A.M. EDT. The exact time isn't something pulled out from one's arse. It's based on the sun's position relative to the Earth's equator (when the sun crosses the equator). Last I knew Europe was on the same planet as the rest of us.

Who cares about astronomy?
In popular usage and for most meteorological purposes, autumn is customarily taken to include the months of September, October, and November in the Northern Hemisphere.

24. Fall Sep 22, 2006, 14:40 Cynips

Last night I mentioned yesterday was the last day of summer, it was actually the last full day of summer (in the northern hemisphere, of course), as fall begins at around 11:00 p.m. tonight.
We've been through this before. It's not the start of fall in all of the northern hemisphere. This might be the case in the US but for most of Europe fall starts with September. No need to complicate things. (And personally I don't see why already half-ways toward the darkest day of the year should have anything to do with the end of summer.)

Moving back to Sweden, when? Did you just come here to finish your phd in bugs right? Got a nice job lined up playing with bugs in Sweden?
We were always planning on moving back. Especially since the wife has a 15 yo boy who lives with his dad back in Sweden. He was over here in April last year but we haven't seen him since simply because we can't afford it on my crappy salary.

I'm here now on my third year as a postdoc during which time we've managed to produce two Americans I don't reallyl have a job waiting for me but as it is I'm up for a phone interview Monday morning for job as taxonomist at the Swedish Species Information Center. If I get it we might even have to move back earlier than the currently scheduled end of January next year.

Actually, moving back earlier would be a good thing since our Toyota Camry -85 isn't running very well. Had it in for an evaluation and for the absolutely necessary repairs it's $1397.94+tax! For a car worth $500 if it didn't have the whole break system failing.

If I don't get that taxonomist job, however, I may have to wait for ppl to retire from their curator positions at the Swedish Museum of Natural History which is what my career is narrowed done for. Fortunately I have unemployment insurance covering me for a year once we get back. Not much but should keep us afloat.

No, I never got into this for the money...

Bored playing? I just play HL2DM and pretty much never get bored as long as I play on the right servers (read, right maps and right players). Even more fun now, since the wife thought it looked fun and started playing two months ago. Can't wait for a 2nd computer and a better connection when we move back to Sweden so we can play each other (including the oldest kid actually).

Dunno, I'm just not anywhere near as exited about this as I was about the original. And I even thought the original was last years best FPS. Maybe I'm getting old...

Yeah, they are doing the same thing with Eureka.
I only had time for the first episode of that. You watch it? If so, what do you think? Worth wasting your time on?
