Without meaning to derail this highly interesting discussion of piracy theft and so forth - Ghost Recon has stunk for the last several iterations, and GRO looks to be truly awful. The franchise has pretty much ceded the field to the Battlefield series. Actually I can't remember a single GR game that was enjoyable. My friends referred to it as "that shooter where you can't jump over a small rock or curb". |

Jerykk wrote on Jun 28, 2011, 03:17: ...Oh lord, it's getting worse by the second. IGN has an extended preview of the game up and it reveals even more terrible news. For one, tanks can't be damaged with regular weapons, which makes them even more overpowered than the tanks in T2. I'm guessing you'll have to use a specialized anti-tank weapon, kind of like the missile launcher in T2, only this time it's probably exclusive to the Anti-Tank loadout... The T2 tank may have been powerful in a pub full of kids, but it was ultimately irrelevant and unused in any sort of high-level play. It was just too slow to be useful. |

I'd kill to play a Freespace 3. . . But a Freespace designed for mouse, much less console controllers, just wouldn't be a Freespace. I wouldn't even bother picking it up. |

| I'd probably have bought these if they were available without using that gawdawful Windows Live! rot. Is it just me, or has Bethesda's insistence on only selling through Windows Live! caused a lot of people to blow these off? |

Eh wtf I thought I was quoting, but that isn't so. I was respondint to posts 56-58 that can be summed up with:

Translation: "Bla bla bla, monkeys, evolution ,gay marrage" HUH?
. 57. Re: No subject Jul 13, 13:27 Fausticle
Wow. We're all good little indoctrinated socialists, aren't we?
Flinging around the word "Corporate" as though ALL Corporations are "Evil and Greedy" is just plain nonsense.
Are their "Evil and greedy" companies? Sure. And Flagship falls into that category via their ridiculous pricing scheme. A model that thankfully failed.
But remember... a LOT of these "Corporations" (And privately held companies) provide YOU with a JOB. The Next time your "Professor from a University" or your "Typical Main Stream Media Journalist" get's on his / her political soap box, please remind them of that fact.
Translation: "Bla bla bla, monkeys, evolution ,gay marrage"
=========================
Apologies for the quoting. I can't ever make bluesnews forum posts quote the way I intend.

The implication is that the original poster - wtf_man - is simply rehashing the same conservative talking points that have pretty much wrecked our country. Fausticle is implying that defending corporations is up there with, and largely associated with people who get bent out of shape about evolution, gay marriage, and so on.
I'm inclined to agree with him, but there are some -not a lot of, I think - financial conservatives who loathe the bible-thumping, knuckle-dragging social conservative side. To my mind, the social conservatives and the finacial conservatives are equally superstitious, but that's an argument for another day.
PS I summon Derek Smart. Derek Smart! (and for a third time) Derek Smart!

The Derek Smart PhD epic never gets old. Just in case anyone was unaware, DS claimed to have a PhD, but it turns out, if there is such a degree, it's not from an accredited school, i.e., he bought it through one of those email spam ads. Just Google "Flame War Follies" for the full, delicious, drama-laden tale.

"Those of you talking about accomplishments don't know what you are talking about because you think that game development is about rubbing stones together."
That would pretty much explain the quality of DS's games.

" "I have no less than three degrees - including a distance learning (something which even MIT, Princeton and everyone else is now offering) Ph.D."
this is classic derek smart propaganda. he still insists on having a doctorate degree. tell us oh smart one, which acredited institution allowed you to work on that doctorate degree. oh thats right... none."
Yes, I notice this one never got answered. Cereal Box Institute, no doubt. 3 degrees - an AA, a BA, and a fake PhD.?
On a more direct note, the games are simply ass. They look like crap. The controls feel like crap. The flight model is ass - not Jenna Jameson ass, but Rosie O'Donnell ass. And the UI is famously bad. There's menus hidden within godawful nested menus, it takes 20 minutes to get the tiniest thing done. I want to like the game - I love space sims, I've played X3 and Jumpgate for years, and no one can say those are simplistic. You try to play Universal Combat, and you'll put an icepick into your temple as you curse the elder gods that gave you thought. Just take what joy you can from DS, and be entertained by these flames.

Those terms aren't vague at all! "technical and related information" covers every aspect of your computer. "without limitation" means (determinately) ummm, with no limits. (could they have really intended 'not limited to' ? That would make more sense). EA intends to non-vaguely rape you. The game looks like a bland diablo clone with nice graphics, so I don't really care, but boy do I sure hate to see the way the industry seems to be headed.

"Now Derek, as we all know, makes games that appeal to a far smaller slice of gamedom. A 'niche' you might say. Thus, there is not a majority of gamers posting positive things. I would even venture to say that a lot (maybe even a majority) of D.S. haters have never even played one of his games; they only read about some of the unfortunate antics he pulled when he was younger."
I've played 2-3 DS games. The concept looks like everything I ever wanted in a game. The execution - from the original BC3k, to the recent UC - is abominable. I guess the biggest complaint would be the UI, but that's just part of the picture. The thing is, you can see that it's the DS personality which lies at the root of this suckage. He did it right, he knows it, he knows better than everyone who played the game, who are all lower-caste fools, and so there's no reason for him to change it. Which is why his 'saving' of the Freespace series would echo "we had to destroy the village in order to save it."
As for any recent DS antics - there's a real gem in this very thread, which has been already cited several times.
