Not surprising. "The fanbase that got them where they are" is such a rally cry with some people. I'll never understand it. Somewhere out there dozens of people are saying the Beastie Boys sold out when they switched from hardcore to rap. Someone is whining that American Express should still be catering to the telegram business.
Gears of War 3 is their best selling title. Ever. And, creatively, they've left that behind, giving it to their sister studio so they can move on to something new.
They could've done Unreal and/or UT proper service while still pooping out Gears of War 3, it's not like there is a conflict. They just inexplicably drove those great franchises into the ground before they even turned into franchises, then blamed the boogeyman. |

| It's actually impressive for a new IP from a "lesser" developer to get such high review scores across the board. Generally reviewers reserve scores of 80-85% for games with such pedigree if they are good. 90% is the threshold for games with the type of hype behind them that would get reviewers in trouble were they to criticize. Modern Warfare, etc. |

I really liked DA:O, but the stupid salesman that was sitting in my camp all the way to the end of the game never stopped bothering me.
If EA is going to peddle more of their shit inside BF3 then I'll pass. Besides, all the alpha multiplayer footage has been uninspiring to say the least. |

Eh, if WoW is your life and you couldn't score a Blizzcon ticket, I'm sure this is perfect.
To each his own, I for one think anyone who pays good money to go see would-be KFC drive-through operators play around with balls/pucks is a douchebag. And yet that's a global bazillion dollar industry. |

This game is still gonna get 90%+ rave reviews like all those big name games in the past that were released in an unplayable state, like Empire:TW recently... right?
I like gaming publications calling a spade a spade, but why does that only apply to small developers and everyone just swings on the big boys's balls. Advertising? Peer pressure?
And to those asking "OMGZ WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY THIS GAME AT FULL PRICE", well because if nobody does, there will never be a sequel, or perhaps any game at all from the developer. |

Nice. Thread derailed from the second page on by a dispute over how much the previous game cost one guy two years ago. Excellent discussion guys. I mean, first I came to the comments section to see people's reactions to the game that's just been released, but then I started reading and was like "wow, this is so much more interesting!" Especially Verno, who stopped caring about the argument so much that he's posted roughly fifty times about it since then.
This thread is worse than MW2. |

This game is seriously good, but what amazes me is that it's been in basically an open beta for like years now, and yet not one company has copied its mounted combat. Take a look at the horseshit (ahem) that is mounted combat in assassin's creed and oblivion, and it boggles the mind that a team of two can create such awesome mechanics.
Plus, the game has a vibrant mod community.

I agree that ss2 was better, but compared to the games coming out in the last ~8 years, BioShock is way above average. So is Mass Effect. They didn't suck me in completely and take over my imagination whole they way some games in the 90's did, but they definitely moved me, perhaps because I wasn't trying to compare them to anything as I was playing them.
Oblivion is below shit regardless of the scale though. Fucking Bethesda.

I liked warcraft cartoon style graphics. When they were only in warcraft that is, and starcraft had its futuristic sci-fi style and diablo had its gothic horror style.
Now that all three franchises have the same cartoon style graphics, I'm not as fond.
I'm still trying to figure out where all that green light is coming from in the cathedral portion of the trailer. Are there green torches on every wall?

That it's completely awesome? That it's hard to get a full game out when only two people (with some assistance) are working on it?
This, I kid you not, is one of the best games since the turn of the century, it's quintessential PC gaming, and if you don't know anything about it then it's time you looked it up.

Haha. Nuclear-nerf for Soldier. Why now with the Pyro buff though? Isn't it obvious? So that soldiers that get rockets redirected at them by pyro's compression blast get the whole effect.

Self Fulfilling Prophecy |
Apr 24, 2008, 14:16 |

The UT3 flop on the PC was so much like an utterly predictable slow motion train wreck, it begs the question whether it was done on purpose to some extent. The "beta" demo caused an uproar about some basic issues of UI and networking on every site I've visited. Diligent fans compiled pages of well documented bugs in the game on the official beta feedback site. Epic goes completely silent and then the game suddenly goes gold, without a single change from the beta except a ping sorting bug.
Surprisingly to no one, the release falls flat on its face and now we get to hear the two blithering idiots Mark and Cliffy blame the downfall of PC market.

I remember when the original Majesty came out, my RTS playing friends and I felt like we're finally seeing where the genre is going to evolve, and how it was going to become less of a thinking and more of a thinking man's game.
Back then I wouldn't have believed that this direction would die and we'd be back to click click click CnC style gaming, with bloom.
