Yeah, they clearly had SSFIV Arcade Edition in the pipeline, so they were probably waiting for that to be completed before milking the PC users. I'm guessing that the vanilla DLC didn't sell well on PC, so they just decided to wait until the "final" version of Super instead of selling Arcade as an add-on, which is what seems like is going to happen on the consoles with Yun/Yang. Sadly, I admit I am enough of a die-hard SF fan to buy this, though not quite enough to buy a compatible console for it.

It's not incredibly hard to get the first two unlocks or so with a class if you play in an active server (32 players) and just stick to that class for an hour or two, mindful of the requirements you need for the achievements - you can even turn them on the overlay to show your progress and remind you. No need to cheat on an idle or achievement server. Spend the time getting to know the various classes, or get better at the ones you like the most. The requirements have also gotten a little easier with each class update (even the number of achivements required for the unlocks has decreased).

But don't sweat the unlocks too much in any case. The way the game is designed, almost none of the unlockable weapons are essential, mostly situational. Probably 75% of my loadouts are the standard weapons, despite having almost every alternate weapon. It just adds a little more fun when are able to get them.

They just announced that new titles will be added every week now, so it will be interesting to see how the lineup changes.

Psyched! There are already a bunch of indie games on Steam that have corresponding Mac versions - even if it's just those being available, I'd be pretty happy.

Considering that the Crossover people have been able to get most of the games working already through Wine, with the resources that Valve has and the limited number of Mac hardware configurations I'm sure they can do it, even profitably. If Valve starts up the framework, they can release all their future games simultaneously for the three platforms from the same codebase.

Steam would easily be worth porting, not just for Valve's games but for tons of casual and indie games that are up on the service, like Popcap's stuff or Machinarium. Several indie games now are being released for Mac and Linux now too with the PC version.

Just putting in my 2 cents - I loved SR2 on the PC, though I didn't get it until several months ago through Steam. Aside from one storyline mission where a cutscene crashed the game every time, it was pretty bug-free.

On the Elite levels, there's actually a lot of strategy and skill involved - think of it as a cousin of the Nintendo Puzzle League games, beat-matched to your favorite music.

The hardware is almost exactly the same as a standard PC nowadays. I've played tons of games on the Boot Camp side, though honestly I wish more games would get ports to Mac OS X, and not two years after the original release...

I don't think this is a bad idea at all - god knows a game like Street Fighter IV could use this sort of profile matchmaking. Who knows if this will actually work, or people will naturally break the system, but it's an idea worth looking into.

Thanks for posting these, Blue - even as an avid reader of CheapAssGamer, the deals from sites like Impulse and GamersGate are often ignored.

I applaud the effort, but their prices are too generally too high. I'm willing to Boot Camp when the equivalent PC prices are way, way lower, usually because these ports are often old as it is. For example: Jade Empire is $35 for Mac on GT, while you get it for under $10 for PC online. Similarly Sid Meier's Pirates! costs double for the Mac version, which is same price on GT as it is for retail.

The prices should be lower online as well, considering there's no shipping or physical product.

I love this game too, been playing it pretty constantly for months now. Can't wait for the upcoming transition when they move it off the Quest3D engine.

I grant that Spy is kind of weak - at least, it's very very hard for an average player (i.e. me) to be effective at all - you have to be pretty clever/fast to be good at it. The ones who are good are backstabbing everyone/taking out sentries like crazy, though.

But engineer? Still dominates playtime... I agree with the "binary" problem (either too effective or not effective at all), but since it's the most played class I doubt it's gonna get a huge tweak before the other classes do.
