Only had to read the first paragraph to know he is pulling crap out of his ass. American society is not more violent now then before, as a matter of fact it is generally less violent now then it's ever been in its history. It's only perceived as being more violent and that can be totally leveled at the medias continuous fixation on the worst aspects of the society and the simple fact that we live in a world of instant communication. Everybody, everywhere, knows instantly every bad thing that happens to everyone, everywhere. I finally gave in and watched A Clockwork Orange for the first time a few weeks ago. One thing really hit home with me about that movie, it's not a commentary on society, it's a commentary on how society views itself. Of course it also doesn't help when every gun lobby and gun worshipper in the country is ramping up that fear and misconception with every word they utter.

As for his very simplified view of how soldiers are trained to kill as an example of how people are desensitized to killing and how that relates to video games, he is way off base... and even contradicts his own theory by stating that the military moved up to soldiers shooting each other with paint guns, why, because obviously the fake 2D targets simply didn't cut it... they had to ramp up to real people shooting other real people. He relates a few very small examples in a soldiers life when in reality a soldiers training (conditioning) is a 24\7 endeavor in every last single aspect of their life, and the military has been perfecting that ever since WW2. Soldiers are conditioned from day one to eliminate the concept of why, only the how is important to their thinking process. Also his shoot to kill numbers from WW2, nam and Afganistan are pure out of his ass fiction... which also does not take into account draft soldiers vs voluntary soldiers.

The simple truth of the matter is the USA has a much higher 'death from violence' rate as compared to the rest of the 'first world' countries because americans have access to guns like the rest of us have access to pop. All other countries have problems with mental health, unemployment, domestic problems... they all watch the same movies, play the same games... the only difference is in almost every place BUT the United States when someone does lose it they don't have a gun right there ready and loaded.

I havent played War Thunder, only BoS, so cant say. I was just going on how the mechanics work in BoS... Heh gotta laugh at your friends description, sounds soo much like Gaijin at work. An example from BoS, you start a mission on simulator, so limited ammo fuel ect, real flight model. Setup a bomber intercept mission and the stupid game expects you to personally shoot down over 20 bombers... in 15min. They make such beautiful games but then fill them with WTF were you thinking parts, and of course bugs, which they dont fix... I havent touched a PC flight sim since Falcon3.0, really only got into BoS because I can fly from the couch on my 55" TV... and bomb flatops!

AFAIK War Thunder also has the ability to adjust difficulty which makes me wonder if your buddies were just playing arcade mode... wait why I'm I defending these asswipes

Totally pissed at Gaijin for thier lack of support for BoS, but damn this one looks sweet... and once they add in player controlled ships and vehicles to the mix, damn. I'll give these guys credit where credit is due, the games look friken beautiful and the attention to detail is astounding, flight characteristics, cockpits, sound, damage modeling. There simply is not a better looking flight sim out there. I'll definatly check this one out but the fuckers wont be getting any money from me, damn you Gaijin!!

Thats not what I took from the vid. The way I saw this trailer was quite the opposite, it was showing that you cant win throwing your car around. He couldnt win because he was drifting, too much throttle and oversteer like was said. Then they show him racing again and he isnt drifting while the other car is so he overtakes the other car and wins.

This is totally absurd, whos the moron at EA who came up with this turd of a concept. I hate cheaters and think they ruin multiplayer too, and I'm all for dropping the hammer on them... but theres a line between people who hack to cheat and people who exploit knowingly or unknowingly a poorly coded game. EA is essentially saying we are going to punish you for our incompetence, fucking hilarious.... and for a game that should be single player only to boot.

I'd like to think the masses would wake up to this crap and make a stand, but the reality is they're totally clueless and these companys know it.

I suppose they don't have the marines saying anything because it gets repetitive and obstructs your ability to hear other players over voice but that really felt lifeless, not even any death screams? The few sounds you do hear are so faint it's hardly noticeable. The pulse rifle sounded like they recorded it in a bathroom. Video is from last April but until they show some actual gameplay from their "gold" release - that doesn't look so hot.


The official trailer sure makes it seem really good, but that actual gameplay I posted, not so much, for me the aliens movement\look just seems off somehow.

Anybody who has any clue about video games saw that NRA speech for what it was, pure bullshit. To have any credibility at all he would have had to mention Call of Duty... but that sounds way too patriotic doesnt it, not to mention the fact that like the article points out its perfectly inline with the NRAs point of view. Nope couldnt do that, had to dig up the worst 'sounding' games they could find, and in the process made themselves look like the liars they are... well at least to anyone with a clue.

Sure glad Biden is the VP, had Mrs Clinton been in that position it would have been very bad for us gamers. Shes another one of those who care little for facts and are more concerned with which way the wind blows.

Seriously? you specifically said "glossy advertisement-machines" The PS3 simply does not do this. I see no ads whatsoever, all I have is my nice fish tank with little fishies swimming around, so yes the PS3 in the context of your rant is better. kludgy interfaces... ya I'll give you that, though I personally have no issues with it, course I have the little mini keyboard the clips right onto my controller which makes typing soooo much easier.

Personally I have zero problems finding stuff, infact with the new interface its even easier, just find the game you want and it lists all the DLC for said game right there nice and easy.

What about Home? never installed it myself, isnt needed to play games which is what I do, so why even bring it up it has nothing to do with the subject matter.

Cheating? seriously? your going to bash consoles for cheating when the PC is the king?... and the PS3 is the most secure system on the market, there is NO cheating beyond stupid shit like unpluging your cable. I've never had issues playing online (ok had one, but it was related to the shit modem\router my ISP used) never had issues with voice chat.

Ya sure, Sony got hacked, Microsoft only built a low cost POS that had an unbelievable failure rate and then tried to bury the fact until they were forced fix or replace the junk consoles. At least Sonys only problem was being targeted by a hacker group out to get them, totally out of thier control, and frankly if the tables had been turned and they went after Microsoft instead I'm sure the results would have been exactly the same. BTW how much free stuff did Microsoft give away because of thier poorly designed console? Sony gave us a ton of free shit and it wasnt even thier doing.

You mean the teleport patch that didnt fix the teleport bug? and the free DLC that was actually an unfinished part of the game that was axed in order to make thier release date?

My PS3 never locks up due to the lenght of time I play, but it does lockup on a couple of games that were shit port jobs. I just recently did a big time run on MGS4 playing 8-10 hour long stretches at a time, game never died on me once... it has nothing to do with the PS3 and everything to do with shitty game code.

XCOM clearly could have used a few more months of polish before release, but they had a release date to accommodate, so it was pushed out the door early = IMO, no where near top dev.

I'd agree that Valve didnt release much this year but we are talking about devs in general not GOTY candidates. So I'd still give Valve top spot, they support thier products, they release because the game is ready and not because of another departments schedule and they continuously update and add free content to thier products. Heh I always think its funny when people talk about Valve time. Like its a bad thing that a developer will take whatever time is nessesary to make sure they release a quality finished product.

Special mention goes to Level Up Labs for Defender's Quest, a truly inspired combination of Tower Defense and RPG, with a cohesive story to boot.

While some of these are obvious, some may not be. I put Gearbox in there for showing how to make a true sequel (some old, some new, much improved). ArenaNet is in there for demonstrating the right way to do an MMO launch, as well as their fairly unique MMO model (which being a sequel isn't unique, but still it's going strong). I threw Hi-Rez in there for their free to play model, which both makes them money and makes the game accessible. Runic is a bit weak sauce, but I threw them in there for most improved sequel, and showing you don't need to charge $60 out of the gate for a top of the line game.

I'm loving XCOM but thier codeing is shit, it has some pretty major flaws and theve been unable to remedy them. Teleport bugs, flanking bugs and the game has hardlocked my PS3 a few times, PSfckn3, theres no excuse for a game to not run flawlessly on a console, shit codeing.

Valve IMO well deserves the number one spot, nobody in the business stands behind thier games like Valve does.

I personally tend to play a very defensive game early so I go straight for armor. Keeping your guys alive is key to getting promotions which can really turn the tide. More powerful weapons are nice for taking down the aliens but if they get that first shot off your dead guy with that laser gun is useless.

I've taken to a 2 assault, 2 heavy, support and sniper setup. Supports push the boundries and the heavys back them up. I look for the best routes upon landing and if I have to I'll shift to the far left or right if that ground looks better, and try to keep to the edge of the map so I know one of my flanks is safe. Of course move without dashing and try to have all my guys on overwatch, and if when I expose some aliens and I do not like my position I'll move out of sight, overwatch, and let them come into my defensive position. Course those damn bomb missions are a totally different beast.

Aircraft I've never had a problem with, even on classic. Early game stock intercepters are fine, just make sure to have two and at least a dodge and aim. Once first intercepter gets 75% damaged, pull it out and send in the second to finish the job. In my two games so far I've had only one UFO get away and it was totally my fault, hit disengage instead of dodge.

EDIT ... and dont neglect to upgrade the snipers pistol. Saved my ass quite a few times being able to move the sniper and still shoot, or go into overwatch.
