No one "getting worked up" over the console issue here. This place is a PC gaming news site first and foremost. The day it becomes primarily becomes a console gaming news site is the day it becomes like most of the other gaming sites out there. We may enjoy all kinds of platforms, but when I want to know what's going on in the PC gaming world today, I come here. PC gaming is what makes Bluesnews.. Bluesnews.

Of course that doesn't mean we don't discuss consoles. We discuss everything, including acid reflux! And it's nice to see Blue had the same reaction I had when I looked at what Wing Commander Arena has become.

Personally, I think "they" are putting too much stock into using old game names. Kids are either too young to even know what Wing Commander was for the name to have any meaning OR old enough to become disappointed in something that isn't a WC game. They might as well spent the IP rights cash on someone to come up with a new name.

I'm still not sure what it is. Is it COH ported to an online only play system with a battlenet wrapper or is it new content? It sounds like it's just a revamp of some COH content designed to maximize profits in a land of CD/DVD duplicators.

While they're both forms of entertainment, I for one am I'm glad video games are not just art. People take a toilet, put it on a pedestal, and call it art. Even the crappiest game I've ever played took more effort to create than some of the art I've seen.

LOL, and it is truly almost 5 PS3s sold compared to 1 XBox 360.

Hardware sales for the week ending July 15:

PS3 - 13,493
X-Box 360 – 2,942

I don't think anyone should be bragging about those numbers. They must be buying Wiis.

EDIT: yup, looking at the actual source for the numbers..

DS Lite - 141,967
Wii – 109,854
PSP – 37,578
PS2 – 15,777
PS3 - 13,493
Xbox 360 – 2,942

Should've known after seeing the linked article was to psu.com. Nice spin.

My POS game? WTF are you talking about?

Apparently, he was trying to be funny. Or maybe he's just pissed that you didn't like his favorite game. We'll need to ask his mom if that was sarcasm or not.

Unfortunately, a improved browser will not be developed due to the results of a recent market forecast and feasibility study. After all, they are a business.

You must be new here if you can't detect sarcasm.

What are you, his mom? If that was an attempt at sarcasm, it was a poor one and a poor attempt at a joke.

Blue doesn't link to wplaying because of the barrage of emails he gets from people complaining about wplaying borrowing their content.

News Comments > No Linux Steam - Really
35. Re: MMORPGHoD Jul 20, 2007, 20:44 MMORPGHoD

I didn't say it was Valve's responsibility.

That's what you are suggesting...you said it right here...

I guess you didn't believe Valve's bullet point on helping small development houses and leveling the playing field more for Windows games. Why the heck couldn't the same be said about Linux?

It'd say the need would be even more so with Linux, because it'll be even more difficult to find a publisher.

Simply put...Why should Valve help Linux with their gaming when Linux isn't helping themselves?

Is it currently Valve's responsibility to champion Windows gaming? No, they can do whatever the heck they want, including going 100% console. Since when is it any companies responsibility to champion any cause? Your assertion is a far cry from my statement. I'm only pointing out one of Valve's talking points describing the reason for the creation of their service and an obvious parallel to small developers for Linux.

And let me state for the record, Valve isn't responsible for Linux gaming. Even if for the sake of argument they were, in reality it'd probably take them 5 years to come out with something anyways.

MMORPGHoD, all I can say is...when did it become Valve's responsibility to champion for Linux gaming?

I didn't say it was Valve's responsibility. I did say Linux on Steam is a more interesting idea than Microsoft's latest "ideas" for Windows gamers. Ideas that are supposed to further PC gaming. I'm simply supporting an idea that could lead to more options for gamers rather than defending companies that rarely need defending (they have their own departments of people who get salaries for that).

I'm not about to get into another Valve debate, as it has been quite clear who has been a champion for Valve.

8. Re: No subject Jul 20, 2007, 11:23 MMORPGHoD

Let me make a few points here to show you where I'm coming from:

1. I don't like STEAM in its current form. For me under Windows it's completely unnecessary ("ultimately can be done with a good decent "official" website" is actually a reason I could use against steam on Windows too). It's intrusive. It inflates the price of games under it. And if too successful we'll just be replacing MS with Valve, along with the usual monopolistic practices that go with it.

2. I think Vista Gaming for Windows is a joke.

3. I like a balance of power. I like more options. I don't use Linux because I'm a Windows app developer, but even I see the potential of something for PC gamers who are sick of the status quo.

Windows already has a ton of different places for distribution and product placement. The land of Linux is barren when it comes to gaming. Having a central location for developers to show off Linux games and make some money off it, such as Wargames (Defcon) or Geometry Wars and other small but interesting games added to a growing list actually sounds like a better idea to me than Steam on Windows or Vista Gaming for Windows.

Come on guys, think about the bigger picture, long term trends, and competition. I mean, sheesh, are we so damn jaded and pessimistic that we've become borg drones, assimilated to run Direct X on Windows X for the rest of our lives?

Maybe OpenGL with OpenAL (sound) under Linux will never be popular and resistance is futile, but I'll never say the idea isn't any good. Not with the crap ideas we're currently following with the status quo.

It would help foster development for Linux games by smaller dev houses who are looking for a way to get games noticed. There are already several examples of this on Steam. Games that otherwise might never be known.

And if you don't believe that, I guess you didn't believe Valve's bullet point on helping small development houses and leveling the playing field more for Windows games. Why the heck couldn't the same be said about Linux?

Many posts repeat the salient point that a native Linux Steam client will not do anything to help Windows games run under Linux without emulation anyway.

I agree to a point, but after experiencing Vista and MS's vision for Windows gamers I wouldn't mind seeing another alternative for PC gaming. Steam for Linux might help.

All I know is, it sucks that Silicon Knights is never going to make an Eternal Darkness sequel. I don't really care about what else they made.

The bickering is fun to watch though...

Or is there compatibility issues running 32bit apps on 64bit Vista?

I wouldn't use 64-bit Vista if you plan to play games (the performance boost isn't there and is only useful for the additional RAM space support). You're also lucky there are 64-bit drivers for all your hardware, because there is a ton of devices that still aren't supported.

This is probably the only reason Bioware would come back to doing some PC-centric gaming. Then again, this thing might also be on the 360/PS3.

Oh, but there's also supposedly Dragon Age for PCs, although one might easily forget it's still under development.
